These changes won't make significant difference compared to earlier Tiago, it still is the better choice among competition. Atleast they have not compromised with rigidness of body.
Moreover, I must tell you that these newer Tiago comes with improved clutch assembly which is extremely light just like how it is in Nexon. I won't be surprised if they have installed self adjusting clutch assembly from Nexon.
Those who understand cars, I always recommend them Tiago.
Hi Abhisek,
I am too not happy with the cost cutting efforts but on the flip side, the new steering wheel & chrome instrument cluster are a welcome change. Also, I understand that this practice is common across Indian manufacturers.
I also agree with modifii, the clutch on our PDI car was butter smooth and gear rod had zero vibrations at idle, it was rock solid. I will get to drive it once my colleague takes delivery and will update more on that later.
About steering wheel and instrument cluster I like the older ones as I don't like everything black. The silver finish looks more premium to me compared to the black finish on the steering. So this is more of a personal choice. I am happy to hear about the lighter clutch and gear lever vibrations issues solved but frankly I never faced both these issues in my car and clutch was always light.
But removal of below things is a deal breaker for me:
- boot lamp - I really use it while taking out luggage at night. The auto switch off doesn't work in my car (I tested as same is conveyed by service center) but I am fine with it.
- parcel tray strings and hook - 20rs feature but really useful one. Shame that they removed it.
- Smaller spare wheel - personally I can't live with smaller spare wheel and don't believe in manufacturer's explanations in providing them.
Some other good to have features are gone:
- the lighter plastic quality on gear lever, steering are so inferior from before.
- Tiago is slightly vocal at instance so not sure removing insulation is helping here.
I am sure if Tata increased the cost by 10-15K people won't mind it much rather than cutting cost.
I think next on their list may be-
-removal of roof stitching,
-poorer quality of seats
-removal of 2 twitters from xz variant.
- putting poorer quality light plastic dashboard.
- thinner seats
-more R&D is going on at Tata for other cost cutting.
But biggest concern is if I buy a Tata car again do I need to check each and every small thing which can be robbed off in my car?
