Re: Tata Tiago Petrol XZ - A Layman's Review

So last week I started hearing a 'tak' sound at every stop point while opening/closing driver's door. I looked closer and found the screw on the door hinge was loose already. Got it tightened at a FNG as I was at my hometown over the weekend.

The mech however was praising the car for its steering, suspension, chain driven engine, easy access to oil filter and all the loaded features at this price point. He also unscrewed and pulled out the cabin air filter and appreciated the good quality filter used by Tata (FYI - He worked in Toyota Service for several years in the middle east).

Nice to hear this from an experienced Technician. What's FNG by the way?

FNG: Friendly Neighbourhood Garage (aka Local Mechanic)
And by the way, my child seat search has finally come to an end. It's the Babyoye Cosmo Sp model which fit my requirements and wallet. I will publish a review of it in a week's time. In the meantime, here's a small teaser:

Looking forward for the review. Do post the product link as usual[:)]. If possible, could you please try and fix the seat in the middle of backseat and post the pics? It would be nice to have the child seat fixed at the middle. This way 2 adults can comfortably sit at the back..[:D]

Good to hear such comments from experts. Also, the charger fuse problem does not exist now, after the second visit.

I do hear 'ghaar ghaar' noise while listening to songs at volume above 14. Mainly I notice this noise coming from C pillars. However, front speakers doesn't produce such noise. Music settings show balance and fader set correctly. And yes, I do have set eq in music player. Do you face such noises?

I too like your idea as middle seat is considered safest according to many car seat manufacturers. However, Tiago has only a lap belt for middle seat and this child seat requires 3 point seat belt for installation. So that's a bummer for us.

I don't hear noise from C pillars but always felt the speakers aren't capable of handling bass with higher volume levels, usually above 15 for most of my songs (320 kbps MP3). This being subjective topic, its better to compare with another Tiago nearby or at a service center.

On a related note, is there anyone else who is mentally programmed to set volume levels in multiples of 5? :stupid:

I checked this with couple of Audio accessory shops nearby. Though initially they suggested changing speakers (before listening to audio) later they said damping of doors should suffice as the speakers are good. But one of them asked me to check with Tata as they will be removing the plastic cover inside doors, which might void warranty. And as expected, it was a Yes from Tata saying it will void warranty.

Door rattling at 50% of volume even with Bass set to 0 is purely irritating. More than 90% of rattle comes from rear doors, which is very near to my ear. It completely flushes out the enjoyment. I guess the only option left now is to raise it as complaint during my 1st service and see what Tata can do about this.

They will easily wash their hands off this if raised during first service. I If you have the time, raise a complaint through their smartphone app (TMSC) and address this issue separately. I missed to mention in my previous post, my bass level is always +10 (on a scale of -10 to +10) and don't have rattles at volume 15 for sure (same with my friend's Tiago). So it could be an isolated issue with your car which they should be able to fix without charging a paisa. On the other hand, getting it dampened at TASS would not void warranty and will improve bass frequencies too. Please keep us posted on this issue.

+10 bass level with volume level 15 without rattles will be incredible. I'm gonna raise a complain via TMSC. How does the complaints via app work? Will they call us by booking appointments or something? If they're fixing this issue, I will drop the damping plan.

The complaint is routed to your dealer and they will call you to bring the car in or pickup from your place.

After 5 months of ownership, I learned Tiago has panic alarm feature . Thanks to Tirupati Bala Singh who found and shared this with fellow owners.

Activate: Press lock and unlock buttons on the remote key simultaneously.
De-Activate: Press any button on the remote key.

^^ That's a nice find. I still haven't completely read the owners manual, and sure if I read, we can see such things for sure.
Ironically, this isn't listed in the user manual anywhere. I guess we found a bug in TML's documentation department too [glasses].

Hi Guys,

Just a brief info, whoever asking for FE of Tiago, just check this

These are overall and recent trip FEs.

This is XT Petrol

I feel actual FE is around 3-4 KM less than what is shown, which comes around 18 overall, very good in my opinion

Hi Murali,
Have you had a chance to validate the long term FE shown on MID with your re-fuel logs? I wonder how much the variance goes up/down with long runs.
As of 25-Oct, my Tiago had 18.5 on the MID for 4653 KM (Trip B value since first service) but I missed to log a couple of re-fuel logs to be able to calculate the variance.

Hello Prabhagar sir,

Yes, I have been checking all the time for re-fuels, but did not log recently as I feel its not necessary now. I used to log initially for each and every re-fuel, but FE was consistent and I felt no need to note it now (I am fixed at 18-19 actual FE with overall conditions and quite happy).

I can clearly say now, my Tiago is giving consistent FE, but yes it varies depending on driving conditions. City is lot worse because my area (Hyderabad) traffic is horrible these days and its always bumper to bumper traffic. My overall readings can be assumed as 50% highways, 30% full BTB traffic, and 20% average traffic. In city driving AC always on (overall 50% AC on long run).

Highways give around 24-25 without AC, 21-22 with AC as per MID (80-100 speed) whereas city (don't ask) varies a lot depending on traffic, I got as low as 8-9 to as high as 14-15.

One more thing to add, car is loaded with full 4-5 seating more than 70% of time and Eco mode almost 90%.

Considering all of these facts, I got these FEs

Apart from FE, I have noticed 2 small things:
I just wanted to check speed, touched 130+ (bit frightened to do, only once though), but I noticed horrible vibrations after 110-120 as if car would blast and go into pieces, never tried to cross 100 after that :)

One more issue sometimes when I unlock car, the lock liver comes out completely.

anyone noticed these??

Please suggest what things I need to keep in mind for 2nd service (due shortly)

Thank you in advance
