Re: Tata Nano Diesel Expected Launch By 2012

I saw many news floating around for the Nano coming in 800cc Diesel engine. This is the most anticipated version which we Indians are drooling for.

From the news which Surfer has posted, i got to know that Honeywell Co. has developed the diesel engine, what does Honeywell do? Which country is it based from?

Mileage around 40kmpl (35 in real world) would be used by me for daily office commute! (60 kms up and down)

P.S Dad has told me he would gift me a nano when it comes in diesel avatar[clap]

Viswas,

Honeywell do not make engines.
They are developing turbo charger for the 2 cylinder Diesel engine of Tata Motors.

This engine would be World's first two cylinder turbo charged diesel engine.

(This turbo charger was in development from 2010 or even before)

Once this Diesel engine with turbo charger is introduced, it will start a new era in ultra fuel efficient micro vehicles. Tata would power its range of micro commercial vehicles with this engine along with Nano.

Honeywell which is developing turbocharger for this engine is a US based multinational company with its presence in an array of industries with products for automation, aerospace, transportation, safety and security and many others..

What..2 years for a turbo charger ,arent you kidding?

Even school kids can do better than that.[frustration]

This is the smallest turbo charger ever developed by Honeywell.

Turbo charging such a small engine has a lot of challanges and 2 cylinder engine adds to that. Difficult and challanging than developing a turbo charger for a 4 cylinder engine. There are issues related to engine pulsations, vibrations and compressor surges which are a real challange even for technology leader like Honeywell.

They have to approach in the same novel way how Tata developed nano.

Nano is not an easy job.

Re: Upcoming Tata Nano Facelift!

Tata Nano Diesel : More details emerge

The diesel variant of the Tata Nano has to be among the most awaited car launches of recent times. While the car won’t enter the highly competitive small car market of India before 2014, speculations regarding to car have already been abounding in the cyber space. Concrete details about the diesel engine of the Nano D have now emerged on the cyber space. The diesel variant of the Nano would sport an 800cc twin cylinder engine that will feature a Garrett turbocharger. It may be noted that Garrett is now a part of the Honeywell group.

The engine that would power the Nano diesel will be a retuned version of the engine that is on duty in the Tata Ace DICOR. This diesel engine is a common rail direct injection unit that will have a max power of 40 bhp@ 4,000 rpm and peak torque of 60 Nm.

This means that the Nano diesel would be sufficiently powerful for occasional high speed runs. The diesel engine is being expected to offer a fuel economy of as high as 30 Kmpl!! Combined with the lower price of diesel, the Nano would have unbeatably low running costs. The entry level variant of the Nano diesel is expected to be priced at INR 2.5 lakhs.

The Nano diesel would become the world’s least priced diesel car. The Nano diesel will be introduced in our car market only after the launch of the CNG version and the facelift.

It would be interesting to see if the diesel variant would enable Nano in having a better showing on the sales charts. It would also be interesting to see how manufacturers of other entry level hatchbacks react to the launch of the Nano diesel.

Re: Upcoming Tata Nano Facelift!

Tata Nano diesel may run on 800cc engine, cost Rs 60,000 more

The upcoming Tata Nano diesel on various occasions but the engine specifications were always speculative. Not anymore though. Well known turbocharger maker Garrett has listed on it's webpage the details of the Nano diesel engine.

The diesel Nano will be powered by a 0.8L common rail engine which will produce 40PS of power at 4000rpm and 94Nm of torque at 2500rpm. This 800cc engine also does duties on the Tata Ace though without a turbocharger. It is quite possible that Tata will also offer this turbocharged unit in the 2013 Ace model.

Like its petrol powered sibling, the Nano diesel is expected to be the cheapest diesel passenger car in the world. We expect it to be priced about Rs 60,000 more than its corresponding petrol trim. Tata also has plans to launch a CNG version of the Nano, the likes of which was shown at the 2012 Auto Expo held in Delhi.

Nano sales have dwindled in the past few months. In the month of February, only 1505 units were sold compared to 9217 units in the same period last year. The addition of diesel and CNG variants should very well give a boost to the flagging sales of what is a very capable city runabout.

Re: Upcoming Tata Nano Facelift!

i guess the engine is same as the tata ace new model. but that has 1 piston only. and max speed of 55kmph, with 40kmpl ( not sure)
Dont worry. It'll be either 2 cylinder or 3.

I dont understand whats all the cry about, sounds like an auto and stuff. Even Fiat sells 2 cylinder cars in Europe. And people are least bothered about sound there and are full of praise for its efficiency. We Indians, if we dont have any other point then we'll go on about sound, smell, taste etc etc.

Re: Tata Nano Diesel Expected Launch By 2013

Tata Nano diesel not before 2014?

The Tata Nano is in a dire need of a new life. The diesel variant which is under development is expected to give that much needed boost.

Tata Motors have announced earlier that the Nano diesel will be launched at the later part of 2013 following the CNG variant. However, Carwale.com contradicts the information in its report and says that the production of the Nano diesel will begin by February 2014, suggesting that the car will hit the market sometime next April.

That is too long a time for the current Nano to manage. We hope that at least the facelifted version is on its way this year along with the CNG option to revive the ailing sales.

The turbocharger supplier for the engine has updated its website with the information on displacement and power rating.

The 800cc oil burner has a rated power of 30KW (40.4 bhp) which is adequate for a small and lightweight car. Along with the diesel engine, the Nano is expected to get comfort features like a power steering, a proper hatch door, etc.

Tata Motors should try to launch the Nano diesel at the earliest to mitigate the damage.
