65 kmpl. Well if you are driving in Bengaluru, then I doubt you will ever come close to that figure. IF THE 65KMPL THING IS TRUE IN THE FIRST PLACE. In the stop and go traffic, the car is most likely to be in stop position and idling most of the time.

BUT one cant deny that NANO is a great city car. There is no car that can match Nano for city roundabouts.

I think they need to launch Nano diesel with a Power Steering unit.Urban folks(especially the females) won't really prefer Nano until it has a power steering unit.I don't know what is taking TML so long to launch PS equipped Nano?

Power Steering is a good choice to come up with. But then just imagine when Nano was first launched it was meant to used within cities. In fact I even found out that it was not allowed on highways. But then you can often find people using it for long distance journies. The same thing goes for power steering I doubt that if the powersteering is going to be provided with Nano then it might create issues with the balance of the vechile at high speed. The center of mass can be a big challenge to adjust. And dont forget with all these new enhancement we are forgetting that the price will be way beyond the One Lakh Tag[confused][surprise]

Rendering – Meet the 2014 Nano diesel

A higher displacement petrol engine (maybe about 800cc) to cater to the performance seeking budget car buyer could also be seen on future Nanos.

Exterior wise, the design of the bumpers are the first giveaway that this is not your regular 2013 Nano. The front bumper gets a ‘smiling’ V-shaped airdam which houses enclosures for circularly shaped foglights. The Nano has been sporting foglights that are petal shaped until now.

The most significant change at the rear is the inclusion of a hinged bootlid. The fixed hatch has been one of the Nano’s grouses and Tata is providing a fix for this. The outline of the rear windscreen has also changed.

It is believed that Tata would source the turbocharger for the Nano diesel from Garrett. The diesel engine in question could be an 800cc mill producing 40bhp at about 4,000rpm and returning a mileage of 35kpl. This would make the Nano diesel the most fuel economical car in the country.

Meanwhile, the 2013 Tata Nano, announced during the HORIZONEXT (which took place in June), is yet to commence sales. The 2013 Nano sees the addition of an emax variant which is essentially the CNG powered version.

Somehow this front bumper is not impressive, looks cheap and reminds me somewhat with the likes of piaggio's face.

Image nano diesel launch at 2.5 - 3 L onrod, mileage 35 kmpl.
1.Existing people who are going for Alto (largest selling car in India) are going to consider this seriously.
2.People will prefer this as second car to go to office or city travelling.
3.Many existing small car owner can switch to diesel nano thanks to daily raising petrol prices.

Like all of you I am also waiting for Diesel nano. This thread will be hot soon like safari storme. [:D]

Leave the 4 wheeler buyers, it may attract many 2 wheeler buyers even. Modern gear-less scooters are quite thirsty. Even the cab people also may be happy.

I beg to disagree, I see majority of Nanos in Bangalore driven by ladies. Driving it without PS is not an issue at all. Though parking is tough.

Sad to say I'm losing my hope in the nano's current avatar.[cry] With the arrival of diesel engine,
I don't think things will change drastically. Initial excitement will be there, but don't know how much it will carry forward.

Newer version (V2) can be a game changer but the market.. "bigger is beautiful" philosophy is growing..!! [:)]

The Tata Nano diesel is a long overdue model that was supposed to have made its debut by now. However, India’s largest automaker is reportedly facing some technical difficulties that is keeping the much awaited car off the roads.

Nano diesel comes with redesigned front and rear bumpers to look different. The oil burning Nano looks a tad sportier than the 2013 model which was launched very recently. In addition, diesel versions offer a functional hatch door.The Nano diesel would be powered by a 800cc turbocharged engine which could be producing a power output in the vicinity of 40bhp. The car is expected to target a mileage figure of 35kpl.

The Nano diesel will be a part of Tata’s HORINZONNEXT strategy which involves launching an array of new and refreshed products. The Nano CNG emax and this diesel variant are part of the lineup.

I do not think this in final version at least for the interiors. They resemble the 2010 Nano interiors, I am sure TATA will carry their 2013 Nano interiors in Diesel version also. Moreover LORVM is missing.

Interesting to know that TM thinks that for a small/light car like Tata Nano, power steering matters all that much!

If they can just work on making the Nano exhaust sound lesser like a two wheeler or autorick then maybe a whole lot of people might be less embarassed to go ahead & buy it. Sometimes its things which might appear to the manufacturer to be the most silly/trivial which might be big negatives for most customers!
