Re: Tata Manza Ownership Experience: After 1.5 Years

Fourth service is due in a few days.

3rd service - 10000 km - was general check up as in 2nd service + oil change + wheel balancing and wheel alignment.
Charges - Rs 3581

Now 4th service at 20000 km.

Assume that oil change is required and fuel filter to be changed.
Just trying to find out about any other checks/consumables change required.
Just add the cost of the fuel filter to your 3rd service bill - around 1200/1300 rs, depending upon the taxes in your place.

Thanks Highway Ranger.

That means only fuel filter change other than Oil change.

check if there is any engine de-carbonizing is there at 20000km, where most of our members where saying it was actually not required, I do not remember that thread. Also my car is due for 20000km service may be another 5000km left and people say this service normally cost more, fingers crossed
Gurrala74,
Highway Ranger has already done 20000 km service for his Manza. So de carbonizing is not required.

Re: Tata Manza Ownership Experience: After 1.5 Years

What is de-carbonizing, is it cleaning the EGR valve?
Engine de carbonising seems to be more than that.
It is about removing the carbon deposites from the whole sytem - Combustine chamber, fuel lines etc.

Following info is from TATA Motors customer care:

Why diesel de-carbonisation is required?
Carbon deposits accumulate over time in the entire diesel fuel system, including the fuel lines, injector pump, fuel injectors and combustion chambers. This causes rough idle, vibration at idle, loss of power, decreased mileage, increased smoke, slowed throttle response.
Solution:
Decarbonisation process is designed to remove these deposits
Resulting in
  • Better fuel economy
  • Better combustion & increased power
  • Faster starting & warm-up
  • Reduced emissions
  • Reduced injector & pump wear, thereby resulting in savings in maintenance costs
It is approved for low sulphur diesel fuel and EGR equipped diesel engines.

Why petrol fuel and air Decarbonisation is required?

Carbon deposits accumulate on intake valves, injectors, ports, fuel injectors and combustion chambers causing loss of power, rough idle, hesitation, misfire, pinging, knocking, mileage and hard starting.
Solution:
Decarbonisation process helps
  • Clean fuel injectors
  • Clean throttle body
  • Clean plenum and air-intake
  • Clean intake valves and ports
  • Remove combustion chamber deposits
  • In maintaining correct balance of fuel and air in system
Resulting in
  • Comprehensive clean-up of combustion chamber, induction system & fuel injector deposits
  • Improved fuel economy
  • Improved Engine performance & response
  • Reduced emissions
  • Increased Power & acceleration
  • Smooth starts, idles and quieter runs
Charges:

Diesel decarbonising - soft (20000 km) - Rs 1350
Petrol decarbonising - soft - Rs 1350

Diesel decarbonising - hard (60000 km) - Rs 2130
Petrol decarbonising - hard - Rs 2130

Re: Tata Manza Ownership Experience: After 1.5 Years

I sometime hit your profile and come to see this thread. I must say I still miss my vista. :(

If those Tass guys had some sensibility in them it would be still with me as first car.
I sometimes feel as if lost my first child, it was the car I bought at the age of 26 when me and my better half started our journey together so a lots and lots of fond memories with it.
Why I am saying this is me too bought it when I was abroad and all the talking and dealings happened over phone. because when I went for shopping while home Swift and i20 dissapointed me wasting one full month.
So It was a blind shot and everything went well. They came to my home to show that the car can enter our house premises and its good to go. My mom and wife recieves the key day after. I drove it first after a month reaching home.
good to see Tata is keeping you Happy and contended. My wishes

The service schedule does not mention the 20000 km decarbonising - soft and Tass also did not recommend it when I gave my car for 20000 km service.[confused]

What I understand is that its not part of the regular maintainance but a value added service based on need.

Anyway shall check with TASS here during 20000 Km service.

Re: Tata Manza Ownership Experience: After 1.5 Years

But for maruti Ritz, it is a regular one for 20000km[surprise]
Gurrala74,

What I learned after a lot of reading on this subject is that decarbonising is not needed in modern cars at least till 50000 km.

That is why TATA Motors is not recommending this for regular maintenance. Rather it is given as a value added service done by BARDAHL similar to body protection treatment or interior detailing by 3M.

After Sales Service is an oppurtunity for car companies to mint money and it is practiced worldwide. A major reason for my liking of TATA Motors is that they don't do this as a company.

Thanks and welcome Jayadev.

I am very happy with this Manza indeed.

Now I have enough confidence to take it anywhere after two long trips (5000 km each) and another 1000 km trip through ghat roads.

+100, I feel the same to where Maruti people these days trying to get good money out of service and spares, not like earlier.

If we do not want de-carb, can we refuse to it in warranty period [confused]

Re: Tata Manza Ownership Experience: After 1.5 Years

I took the car for 30000kms service
general checkup & washing was done, I had major issue of heater plug fuse blowing off, they found the reverse gear light switch was short circuiting which was changed under warranty.

I asked about decarbonising & was told that by the service advisior that its not required for diesel manza specially if you are always using normal diesel (not the hi speed diesel)

Re: Tata Manza Ownership Experience: After 1.5 Years

So you did not go for an Oil change in 30000 km service?
At 20000kms 4th service I was informed about the change of oil interval reduced to every 10000kms but the catch is that manza is shipped with 5W40 grade oil from factory which is a cheaper oil & people who opt for that have to now change at every 10000kms.

Since I travel a lot in mountains (winters sub zero temp cold start) I opted for expensive oil 0W40 hence need to change every 20000kms. Every 5000kms I take the car for general checkup which saves me long term issues.

Oil change is lot dependent upon how you run your car & in what condition your car runs more, I dislike that tata doesn't allow you to opt for your choice of oil bought from outside which is of higher grade than what they fill from the drums.

ODO reading showing 20000 km.

Noticed something - Engine has become so smooth - much more refined and smoother than it was.

May be its because of the care taken by me till now, its returning the favour.

Now its due for a service.

No issues to report other than a slight sound while negotiating speed breakers (in third gear). This sound is not there when it is in second gear.
