Re: Tata Aria Pride Ownership Review – TAI’s First!
@ Iron Rock and Master Thank you guys , i am back from the trip , i will share some things which i experienced and observed during the trip now. It was a nice wonderful trip which was around 1800KMS. A Honda City also was accompanying us for the entire trip.
1. Firstly the FE , got a standard FE of 13-14kmpl on 3 tankfulls with 7 people on board , a loaded boot and 100% AC ON always in strictly okayish roads for most parts of the journey. The MID crept all the way upto 16.7kmpl on good well laid 4 lane highways while i was returning from Pondy to Chennai. You can expect 600-650kms from a single tankfull depending on the roads , driving conditions , number of people and luggage on board.
2. Our journey for most parts was on average roads only. People who traveled in City first and then came to Aria loved the composure and the comfort of Aria over potholes and bad roads. None of them complained about the ride quality or comfort for the entire trip , everybody was extremely satisfied with the car.
3. Like our Safari the Aria is also a mile muncher! I drove 800kms for the first day but din't feel and tiredness or fatigue. A good night's sleep and i was ready to go for another 500kms the next day. In fact i managed to drive the entire 1800kms in four days and i never complained about any aching , fatigue or tiredness.
4. Aria when fully loaded takes a little longer to pull in the highways in the fourth gear , so you have to plan yourself while overtaking. It's no slouch but still it takes some more time for gaining momentum when fully loaded.
5. Aria's GC of 200mm is highly disappointing especially when its fully loaded! The rear mudflaps kept scraping all the speed breakers if i go a little fast over them. I had to come down to the minimum speed and go over speed breakers like a hatch to avoid my mudflaps getting hit. The underbody itself took a hit on a huge speedbreaker once! Not to mention the City which accompanied us scraped its underbody under almost all the speedbreakers. Our Safari was a KING in this respect , you can take a Safari anywhere and over any bad road at any speed!
6. Braking is top class and far better than Safari in Aria! Aria doesn't nose dive under panic braking and comes to a halt cleanly thanks to ABS.
7. Lights of the Aria are also excellent , most parts of our journey was during night and the projectors lived upto their expectations from me.
8. AC cooling as always is brilliant but as its winter season now this is no big deal!
9. Engine refinement and cabin insulation is the best i like about Aria. Till upto 100kmph there is hardly any noise entering the cabin and after 100kmph wind noise comes in from the A-Pillars. After 120kmph only the engine noise starts to get audible inside the cabin. Our journey for most parts was on bad roads but there was no rattle or squeak from anywhere inside the car , kudos to TATA for this tremendous achievement and improvement over Safari! Our Aria has clocked 22k KMS now and till now no rattle or squeak from anywhere *touchwood!
10. Now i will come to the negatives. The boaty ride of the Safari is still there in Aria. There is a slight bobbing motion at high speeds and undulations do creep inside the cabin. Not as bad as my Verna but still its not good!
11. Steering though well weighted is absolutely lifeless and offers no feedback whatsoever.
12. Now coming to the famous TATA niggles! Both our tail lamp bulbs conked off during the trip which made life difficult for the City following us! The City driver had to rely upon the boot mounted brake light for most part of the trip.
13. Due to the bad roads a chrome strip on the left rear door handle fell down! It was already broken a little but it fell down somewhere during the trip! The chrome strip on the driver side door handle is also broken now and looks like falling off!
14. A rubber strip which is fitted under the front bumper also came loose on one side and we had to tie it to keep it from falling , i will post the pictures you can check in that.
All these niggles from TATA one has to adjust living with , people who can't live with such non-sense are the ones going for the Japs and the Koreans. But even though i have faced few minor niggles i still love the car! It's as good or even better than our Safari in many aspects. We needed an SUV/MUV mainly for enjoyable tireless highway trips and the Aria ticks that box with ease.
Will post some pictures which i took soon.
