I blasted one of my friend recently who was giving all set of unwanted advices to me while driving my car. For my every step he was finding a fault like -
1. Why is your left leg not on clutch? If you have to break sudden car with stale if you are not engaging the clutch completely
2. Why is my left hand on gear and only 1 right hand on steering. You should drive with both hands on steering only
3. Do not swtich off the car at signal (even though the wait time 1 mins +)
4. Seat belts are necessary to avoid fine in city
After this I lost my control & asked him if he would like to seat calmly or would like to ride a bus

Thats the reason I shouted at him and told him to be quiet for rest of journey. JFI - I'm lucky that my wife is also a good driver and she checks if I'm realling following up best practises , obeying traffic rules & I dare to give her car in City to drive. For long drives I try not to give because she lacks some judgement while overtaking

Even me too face the same problem here[;)]
One of my uncle who sits with me,will start to advice
1. Shift gear don't rev beyond 2 k
2. If my sister talks to me scolding her not to talk but this is a valid point but coming to my point he will say as raj as not got good experience and soo, which I really hate.
3. Comparing to him he has got 20 years and me only 2 years.
4. I should overtake now and not now likewise.......
5.And one of my chauffy to will do the same.
Treating me as if I don't know driving and they will command each and every time.

That's good.

For long drives I try not to give because she lacks some judgement while overtaking
The best practice is to keep your eyes in the left front part of the bonnet, then it becomes easier to drive and judge. Many people fear and its common, you just need to have an idea of how much your car measures in length and next is to think whether it cuts back to the left lane with safe distance, that is what bus drivers do. when overtaking their vision is always at the left to get into the left lane and only small amount of people execute it perfectly.

I love this thread. Most of the strange habits happens to me also. If I start posting, then it will be a long post & obviously it will take lots off time to think.
Now, let me say what's in my mind.

- Staring at the car for long time, admiring the beauty of the curves.
- Wherever I go, if I see a Polo, I just keep staring at her even though there is one at my house.
- Keeping silent all the while in front of relatives/cousins. And when the topic cars come in. I suddenly jump into the topic & start saying all I know about that particular car or something. And they are like "you know a lot about cars?" [lol]
- Drooling at a modified car, thinking I could do the same!

1. Applying clutch before starting the engine even if it is in neutral.

2. Checking and re-checking if the AC is on before Starting.

3. Making sure the heater light or the heater Alarm is off before Starting.
(diesel car)

4. Making sure that no warning light is on, after the engine start.

5. AC on after the car start.

6. Making sure to apply full pedal on clutch before engaging the gear.

7. Shifting gears at the feel of the engine.

8. keeping the leg away from the clutch pedal and using it only when required.

9. stepping on the Accelerator pedal smoothly.

10. A throttle on the engine when left in idle for a long period of time in traffic.

11. breaking on gears.

12. Checking while parking and making sure that the car is not obstructing any other car to get out or come in the parking slot to avoid scratches.

13. Leaving the windows open for a 3 minute time to allow fresh air to enter in to the cabin after a long parking in sun.

14. Not using the wiper with spray to wipe the dust out as it may scratch the windshield and damage the wiper.

15. Not allowing a 6th person in a 5 seater car.

16. Not allowing to smoke inside the car.

17. Avoiding sudden brakes and consecutive braking that they may affect wear tear of the brake pad.

18. Making sure to put indicaters at the right time and viewing the rear view mirrors before making the turn to avoid a collision.

19. Avoiding overtaking to the left on a double lane traffic as it may also give to a scratch or a collision.

20. Making sure there is no dust or mud inside the cabin as it may block the AC blower.

21. Making sure to off the AC switch before getting out of the car as if we are in a hurry the next time we start the car may forget to turn off the AC before starting.

22. Making sure to wash the car once in 3 days with out a shampoo and if not possible to wash it with a good shampoo once in a week to protect the clear coat on the paint.

23. Making sure to check alignment and rotation every 5000kms and check in middle if you feel any side pull or something.

24. Making sure to do the wheel balancing after a puncture if the tyre is detached from the disk.

25. Making sure to park at a safer place not under trees and at places where there is a chance of something to fall over the car.

26. Making sure not to put a polythene cover over car as it may affect the paint on top and the hood on longer run.

27. Making sure that the oil and filter to be changed at recommended intervals.

Using the choicest of swear words[angry][gun][angry] when you see vandals having done this to a lovely, shiny car:

p.s.: Some people have no heart. This was done to my colleague's brand new Eon by some lowlifes of the canine variety who dare to call themselves humans. May the sky fall on them and may their insides be infested by the fleas of a thousand dead dogs. Amen.

Really a nice thread [:D] . I have a strange habit of closing the fuel cap by myself after refueling my car. I never allow the fuel pump attendant to close the fuel cap. But sometimes they manage to close the fuel cap . In that situation i simply drive my car for a small distance and stop. Again I open the fuel cap and close it. After that I can drive peacefully.

Man, seeing this has absolutely sunk my heart even though it's not my car, don't know what the owner must be feeling. Absolutely In-human stuff. I don't know what pleasure these street maniacs get ruining other people's hard earned property.

I for one believe, Karma does hit back for the deeds you do. I hope it gets back to the one who did this big time and early.

Felt really bad looking at the scratches..Some jealous morons purposefully do this on the cars parked on the streets..

Some strange habits from my side. (some are already mentioned)

Will not allow anyone else to drive my car (some cases there would be such situations we cannot avoid and I really pray the entire time the other guy finishes driving my car).

Will not park the car under the tree even when during hot weather. (Many years ago, a huge tree fell on my dad's Hyundai Accent and seeing the pictures of the car, I did not properly sleep or eat till I saw the car back (fully repaired))

I will lock the car, walk a few steps, again come back and check for the locks (my wife scolds me for doing this all the time).

Close the boot myself (Everyday when I enter my office, the security guy asks me to open the boot and he does security checks. After he completes the checks, he bangs the boot to close it. After 2 or 3 days, I will get down, open the boot and close it myself even though my car has a remote boot opener).
