I never ask to use somebody else's car, so I really don't like people asking to use mine.

Sometime people are very careful with their own car but treat other peoples property like 5h1t. Some people abuse their own cars so they will have no respect for you car. The way i look at it is, if its somebody elses property and you should treat it with the utmost care.

Sometime I have to let drivers use my car, its unavoidable.

I still have not found a way of refusing without offending them. Any ideas would be most welcome.

Some people say, even if I crash whats the problem you are insured aren't you.

Re: Others driving your car

Guys what do you say when others want to borrow your car. I have a very difficult time saying no. I try and avoid giving my car to others by saying I will take them etc.

What do you do.
This is a classic problem, I have had a few people talk about these situations even after TAI meets - we love our cars and quite simply dont like it to be abused or even plainly driven by others in some cases. This is quite simply an owner's call.
I think we should be respectful when asking and not take for granted these things, and have the ability to also politely refuse when asked. I let very very very few people drive my cars, i am firm but polite about saying a no. I find easy telling a person no on his face rather than get in to situation where i have to curse him behind his back. If i let someone drive it i do give explicit instructions to not mess about or play - handle with extreme care rather.

I have set a simple rule for myself. I neither drive someone else’s car nor allow someone else to touch mine (unless the situation demands so in both cases). I’m candid about it and trust me; it has prevented uncalled misunderstanding as well as saved my car several times.

^^This is bit a tricky situation at times. I normally do not allow some body to drive my car for 2 reasons
1. I do not know what is his driving style where the car function gets disturbed it is quite different from what I do. This is applicable for bike too and I have experienced this car functioning gets disturbed quite few times
2. I do not trust some body whom I do not know or his driving nature where I can sit peacefully

But I allow some body to drive my car depends on the situation where there is no choice(I too tired, or it is a compulsion)

I never take things as granted and never drive any bodies car without his wish. Normally I drive others car when he offer me to drive and I am in mood to do so[:)]

Yup, I am sure most of us, rather everyone around here will have the same thoughts in this topic. However, do anyone have any better idea / ways to refuse such requests politely at the same time without hurting the close ones? Coz, that's the key here as it shouldn't jeopardize the relationship which is more important than the machine.

Tell him I'll give you some other time. I gotta go somewhere or I'm not in a mood.
And the next time, don't ever give him a chance to ask the same thing again.

Hi Johnlord,
This is the biggest nightmare of any petrol head.In my 13 years of owning Zen only 4 people have driven the car other than service centre guys..I have never asked for a friends car in all these years, even though few have Audi's and BMW's.Few have forced me to drive their rides to make me feel good about driving a new car.Now my wife has got a driver's license and she wants to practice real world driving in my car.I'm thinking of buying a new car for her.She is bemused with the idea, she says its very old so its better to learn in the Zen [frustration],don't know how to explain to her.I never thought marriage is such a dangerous preposition!I'm fretting at the thought of her driving it and getting bumps and all.How much I wish Ecosport to get allotted.Hope she doesn't ever find out this post [evil]
Regards,
Aneesh.

Dropped my boss at his home yesterday and, and, AND, AAARGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH he banged the door shut[frustration][rules]. I told him "Sir, when do you want my resignation?" And he said "Hey, sorry man."

Extracting "sorry" from boss's mouth - priceless[:D].

Loving your car more than your job. Amen.

At the end of the day I Make sure that all mycans, chocolate wrappers ,sand particles on floor carpet are clean .
I have seen people covering the cars immediately after parking while I allow the engine heat to subside and then cover the car . [:)]

Few mins back, we were going out somewhere, thought of taking the scooter but it was drizzling, so took the car. I started dusting it with "Jopasu" and my wife asked "why now, it's already raining?!" True, but drizzle over the dusty car will make it worse and cleaning later will be killing. Perhaps, I have to wash it. But, if I dust it now, the rain will just be a wipe away with Microfibre little later! Howz that? She didn't respond to it, but the sarcastic look said the rest [;)]
