Re: Sporty Yet Elegant: My Candy White Volkswagen Polo TDI

I need to get those spacers added soon. Actually I am a person who love vehicles lowered but what to do. Indian road condition makes us to increase the ground clearance. My car has scraped many times. So I really need this! [:D]

I believe the 4-5 Polo threads are running simultaneously could be merged in to single Volkswagen Polo Experience thread. The discussion would be more meaningful.

Right now we have to track each thread separately.
Even I had the same thing on my mind few months ago. I have asked the moderator about this. He wasn't interested & he said that it would only result in the increase of threads! [confused]

Re: Sporty Yet Elegant: My Candy White Volkswagen Polo TDI

Thanks for informing us man.
My workshop guys told me that the cost of this process would be around 3k but if the car is brought for normal service, it would cost only around 300 Rs. Anyways, this is good news for some polo owners who have reported scraping of bottom quite often.

Yeah, your polo is already high!
Regarding lowering of body- its no Europe, remember we live in India?
My pleasure Rightnow. They only asked if my car was under warranty and since it was ,nothing was to be paid, even the labour costs.
And yes the refreshed Polo's are already coming with the increased Ground clearance.

Hehe. Even i'm in the same confusion. I guess we should have a Polo owners club thread and discuss most of the things there.

Hehe. The problems that will arise from lowering is the reason for the adding of spacers to the suspension that VW is doing. The car in stock form does scrape speed breakers which are in plenty in India. So a lowered car would not be practical. I'd rather have a slightly high car than have a lowered car and worry about scraping bottom every time thereby spoiling my mood and the driving experience [:D]
Absolutely. As much all of us want to lower down our cars, its really not a feasible option here in India. Our roads are just not meant for that stuff.

Yes you should get an appointment fixed with your service guys.If your car does scrape a lot, it actually might be of some help. Driving dynamics of the car has really not changed in any way. The increased ground clearance is mostly to protect the oil sump which has a tendency to get hit when the car scrapes the speed breakers. A surely welcome move by VW.

Re: Sporty Yet Elegant: My Candy White Volkswagen Polo TDI

Another new thing happened with me today. I don't know if people living in south might have experienced this, but maybe the Polo owners in Delhi/North(extreme winter) can help me a little. Morning temperature in Chandigarh was around 3 degrees today. Now my car does not show temperature reading in the MID, its a Trendline model. It just shows the distance to empty. Morning around 7.30 i turned the key to ignition and in that place where it shows distance to empty, it was flashing 3 degrees temperature with a star mark. It flashed for like 5 times and then the same distance to empty reading came. I switched on the car and kept it running idle for like 3 minutes for the engine to warm up. Everything seemed fine, drove around 50kms to my destination. While returning back, when i switched on the car, it flashed 4 degrees this time. Will click a pic if it happens again. Has anyone else also noticed this?

^^ Maybe it's a low temp warning which gets displayed only in extreme cases.

Yes even i think so. The best outcome i could make out was to warm the engine before running it, so kept it running idle for good 3 minutes while i was already running late for work[frustration]. Let's see if it happens tomorrow morning also.I'l be ready with my camera.

Ok. Good i'm not the only one experiencing it. I think i should call up and ask my SE what exactly is this for.

Never faced this in spite of almost 2 degree temp here too.
May be specific to diesel engines!

What are the temperatures in Delhi where you're at now? Heard it's really really cold. Maybe that's why it shows that? I think I read somewhere too about some other people facing the same thing. Seems like it's just a low temperature warning. Not a fault.

Yep it's very cold here in Delhi, i read on some other forum that such warning is common in European cars which indicates caution-possible ice on road when ambit temperatures falls below 3-4 degree.

Thanks ToughGuy for the update. So it seems to be all normal and just a warning feature to check for snow or ice covered roads ahead. Mine was flashing 3.5degrees today before starting in the morning.

But today when i was driving on the highway at around 90kmph, in the middle of the drive it started flashing 4 degrees for about 5 seconds with that similar Ting sound which comes when the low fuel indicator sign comes. Is it supposed to be normal or should i get it checked?

Give Workshop a call and see what they have to say. Hundreds of people with diesel Polos would have already called in to check. That will ensure peace of mind.

I guess that's the best way forward. Will do that in the morning itself. A neighbour of mine just got a Vento Tdi last month. He too encountered this today, so i'm guessing its just a regular warning feature and nothing abnormal.

A little late to reply, but i checked it from the VW people and it seems to be a warning feature only. It is better to keep the engine running idle for almost 5 minutes before pressing on the accelerator peddle so that the engine is warm enough. Cold starts without warming up the engine reduces the life of the engine considerably as i was told. Plus affects the fuel efficiency too, lowering down by upto 20-25%.

A little update on my Polo's recent fuel efficiency figures.

Measured by Tankful to Tankful auto-cut method filled from the same Oil Pump.

Distance travelled - 336kms (50% City & 50% Highway) with heater on almost 100% times. (Outside minimum temperature was around 1-3 degrees celcius)

Fuel Consumed - 17.8 Liters

Fuel efficiency - 18.87kmpl

Could have been better if the heater was off and if i drove sedately on the highway below the three digit figures.

ODOMETER current reading stands at 9500kms in 9 months. It has been an absolute niggle free ownership till now. Plus the VW services atleast in my town are top notch. Ready to respond to your query at any point of time and revert back on their own to check if the car is doing fine. Kudos to that.[clap]
