Re: Sporty Yet Elegant: My Candy White Volkswagen Polo TDI

I think my Polo's wheel alignment and balancing has gone for a toss as i've been driving lately on some really bad roads for some stupid work. The car just drifts to left side as soon as you leave the steering wheel despite the fact i check the tyre pressure very regularly. Plus a little wobbling has also started at higher triple digit speeds on the highway. Waiting to touch the 10k km mark which I think should happen anytime next week and then will get the balancing and alignments done along with rotation of all 4 tyres.

Re: Sporty Yet Elegant: My Candy White Volkswagen Polo TDI

Been away from TAI for few days as was stuck up with some work. Today finally reached the five figure mark on the odo. 10000kms done in the 10th month running. Not bad i guess. Although i was expecting to have completed this milestone a couple of months back, but studies have kept me occupied lately.

Recently reached my top speed ever of 165kmph on NH1. I was driving all by myself with loud music on and just without knowing kept on pressing the peddle as there was a nice empty stretch in front of me and when i saw the speedometer, it literally took me by surprise and i immediately slowed down to my regular two digit speeds(80-90kmph). But to be very honest it never felt that i was doing such great speed sitting inside the car. Truly the way it rides and handles is simply impeccable.

Congrats buddy! My polo too has done 160-165kmph & I know how planted it is. The only thing which annoyed me a bit was the engine note. It was at 4000RPM but that's not much of a problem coz it provides a race car like noise! [drive]

GM88 congrats for crossing the 10k mark, liked all your updates in this thread and do keep posting.

On Noida-Greater Noida expressway I also once tested her ability and touched 165kmpl mark, she still had some juice left but i didn't tried. Based on my experience i concludes that Polo got best and unmatchable ride and handling in this segment.

I am curious. If a Petrol 1.2 vs TDI 1.2 have a top speed race, who will reach maximum speed?

I think the official top speed of polo diesel is more than petrol, but I won't mind a race!!

Re: Sporty Yet Elegant: My Candy White Volkswagen Polo TDI

I have done 140 on my polo and I can imagine how planted the car feels at speed of 165 too.

Nice pics, by the way. What place?
Thanks a lot Rightnow. The place is midway on the Chandigarh - Shimla highway. Just found the spot to be really nice, so started clicking pics of the car. Yes the car indeed was very stable even at that speed. I thought i must be doing around 120-130kmph,but it gave me jitters when i saw the needle hovering even above 160 mark.[embarass]

Thanks a lot jihu123. I can't really say about the engine noise at that speed as i was listening to some loud music that time. Will check it next time if ever i get the guts and the road to test the same.[:D] Race car like noise sounds fun to me.

Nice wheels. Congrats on your milestone.
Thanks a lot Sanke1.

Thanks a lot ToughGuy for those really kind words.

Yes even i thought the car could have gone a few more notch higher but it would have been an insane thing to do on our highways where you never know who pops out from where in front of you. Ride and handling is by far the best in the hatchback segment.
I found my cousin's Fiat Punto also extremely stable at 100+ speeds.

Mine n my cousins ride

Hehe. That's a real tricky one. I am sure in 0-100 the petrol will zoom ahead than the diesel. Can't really say about the top speed though.

I like the idea too. So i guess Rightnow should be up for the challenge if in case we meet up someday.[:D]

I just googled, some sources mentioned that polo petrol top speed is 162 kmph and diesel is 164 kmph. Seems like you have crossed the top speed already.

Hehe Good to know. Then i guess we should catch up real soon.

Wow that is a little surprising regarding the top speed. I remember my friend doing 170+ on his Polo diesel on the Pune - Mumbai expressway and i was sitting in the passenger seat. That guy is insane about driving fast and has the cover photo of his Facebook page also showing the 170 kmph he touched on that highway.

Here is that pic

Sure, we can catch up some day.

I think the speed can go even higher than 170 kmph, but its not a recommended speed as per manufacturers on account of high stress on the engine.

By the way, such speeds should be done with real caution and that too only for short while. I hope we agree to this and are not encouraging such speeds on Indian roads.

+100 to that.:agree: I think its absolutely stupid to drive at such speeds as you are risking your own life as well as others on the road. Indian roads are just not meant to be for driving fast. Cruising on the highway at around 80-90kmph is the best speed IMO as it gives back decent FE also, plus the car halts pretty decently from that speed in case of an unknown obstacle in the way. Anything beyond that is like taking your chances.

Re: Sporty Yet Elegant: My Candy White Volkswagen Polo TDI

Top speed is not exactly what is shown on the speedo. It is usually much lesser than what is shown because of over-enthusiastic readings. If the top speed reached on the speedo is 170, the actual top speed will be less than that.

Again, the petrol Polo might beat the diesel in the 0-100 timing but the 0-120 or 0-140 timing of the diesel will be better because of the better torque.
