Re: Sporty Yet Elegant: My Candy White Volkswagen Polo TDI

Those Polos are looking drop dead gorgeous, specially the red one. Wish even we had better roads[frustration] to have these kinds of Mods done on our Polo.

Thank you very much for the reply. Since you say you leave the switch on always, does the fog lamp remain on even when the parking lights are off or is it wired in such a way that fog lamps switch on only when the parking lights are switched on? Anyway, you car looks almost exactly like mine from outside barring the wheel caps and rear wiper/defogger [:D] Gotta admit that the Polo is actually a looker.

Edit: I remember seeing DRLs in the classified section in another popular car forum which looked exactly like the fog lamps but that had LEDs in the corners without the main fog lamp bulb. I was planning on getting that for my Polo CL but the refresh version spoilt my plans
My fog lamps only get switched on when i switch on the rotatory knob for parking lights and headlight. In other time even if the fog lamp switch is On all the time, they are shut as they are connected with the parking lights.

Yes even i've seen the DRL fog lamps. But i found the original ones better suiting to the overall front look.

Hehe. Okay. I'm looking at how I can add DRLs to my car without the aftermarket look that most aftermarket DRLs provide. I'd love it to look stock. There are these headlights I saw with inbuilt Passat-type DRLs but they are pretty expensive for a college student like me [frustration]

I think you are talking about something like these:

These lights are 23k before shipping!. So a landed price of 30k in India should be fine for them. Game for them?

Re: Sporty Yet Elegant: My Candy White Volkswagen Polo TDI

I was looking at something that could be placed around the foglamps. Like in this link 2010 Volkswagen Polo DRL for sale - Led Daytime Driving Lights manufacturer from china
I have seen a few cars with those fog lamp DRLs, but honestly they look too tacky. The fog lamp shape is already good as stock and any DRL would actually risk in spoiling the looks. Just my opinion.

Both the headlamps you mentioned appear to be same, almost.

Guys whatever headlights you looking for, make sure they are compatible for RHD Polos. If you install LHD ones on our Indian RHD Polo, the ballast and wiring may not be compatible. It is next to impossible to convert headlights from LHD to RHD. If you install them without conversion, you may be putting oncoming traffic and subsequently yourself at risk.

Order with caution.

I agree with Rightnow. Somehow the DRL fog lamps look a little bit tacky and don't go with the overall looks of the car. And regarding changing the headlamps, as Sanke1 as rightly pointed out, make sure that they are RHD ones in case you are planning to import them.

As the information provided by Rightnow here on TAI regarding the increase in Ground Clearance of Polo Tdi, i today called up Volkswagen Chandigarh Service centre regarding the same. They are also doing it. Have booked an appointment for tomorrow morning for the same. Approximate time they are telling me for the procedure would be around 3 hours.

I know. They do look a bit tacky but i was looking at a similar placement for the DRLs rather than in the headlamp (though I love the Passat-type headlamps except for the fact that they are prohibitively expensive). I think it's time that the manufacturers here brought out DRLs as OEM, atleast in the top-spec model.

Regarding the Ground clearance issue. Will it be done in all Polos including the refreshed version? Because my Polo does scrap its bottom a bit more than I'd like.

Oh. That's great. Even I need to get it done!
Do post up after doing it!

Re: Sporty Yet Elegant: My Candy White Volkswagen Polo TDI

Went to Volkswagen Chandigarh service centre at around 10am to get that spacer fitted in my Polo to increase the ground clearance as claimed by VW. SE there were very courteous and within minutes my car was on the ramp for the underbody check up. All seemed to be good. As i was in a hurry,i left the car there as they had told me it will take around 3-4hours. I requested the SE if she could provide me with a photograph of the device(spacer) being installed. Got a call around 2.30pm that my car is ready. Went there and the SE had got the bill and the gate form. Labour charges were around Rs.850 but if your Polo is under warranty, nothing will be charged. So i had to pay Nil from my wallet[:D].

Went to check the car and couldn't find any noticeable difference in the ground clearance. Though for sure the gap between the wheel arches and the tyres has increased. None what so ever change in the drive. Drove around 40kms after getting the car and everything seemed to be fine. As such i haven't scraped the bottom of my Polo very much.Just hardly twice or thrice in my whole ownership of 8 months and that too on my trip to JnK because of some horrid roads. Somebody who drives on uneven roads on a daily basis and scrapes the underbelly of the Polo often can give us an inside if this spacer has helped in anyway. For me i guess the only plus side would be, that i'll be a little less careful when going over broken roads now to test if it's actually helped.

Here are the only two pics i could manage

This is the spacer which VW is adding on the Polo Tdi

Cool. BTW I think my Polo does not need any spacers as it's a Nov 2012 model. It already appears raised. Shame we were having talks of lowering and VW is doing exactly opposite. [lol]

Thanks for informing us man.
My workshop guys told me that the cost of this process would be around 3k but if the car is brought for normal service, it would cost only around 300 Rs. Anyways, this is good news for some polo owners who have reported scraping of bottom quite often.

Yeah, your polo is already high!
Regarding lowering of body- its no Europe, remember we live in India?

I believe the 4-5 Polo threads are running simultaneously could be merged in to single Volkswagen Polo Experience thread. The discussion would be more meaningful.

Right now we have to track each thread separately.

Hehe. The problems that will arise from lowering is the reason for the adding of spacers to the suspension that VW is doing. The car in stock form does scrape speed breakers which are in plenty in India. So a lowered car would not be practical. I'd rather have a slightly high car than have a lowered car and worry about scraping bottom every time thereby spoiling my mood and the driving experience [:D]

The threads are ownership reviews so they can not be merged, but a separate thread on polo owners club can be started to discuss things other than ownership.
