Skoda Rapid to roll off from Chakan plant
Skoda Auto India on Friday began production of its entry level sedan, Skoda Rapid, at its plant in Chakan near Pune.
Skoda Rapid is the first car from the Skoda brand, which has been designed keeping in mind the special needs of Indian customers and will be exclusively manufactured in India.
“Friday is the official start of production for the Indian variant of our new Rapid compact saloon. Effective immediately, the first unit of Skoda Rapid will be rolling off the line in this plant.
The car will be introduced in the market shortly. It is an attractive car with lots of space and room for five persons,'' said Skoda Auto Chairman of the Board of Management Winfried Vahland.
The car will be offered with a choice of diesel and petrol engines and the commencement of production of Skoda Rapid is in line with the parent company Skoda Auto's 2018 growth strategy, which aims to double global sales to at least 1.5 million units.
Chacko, Volkswagen Group Chief Representative India, President and Managing Director, Volkswagen India Pvt. Ltd., said, “Skoda has always been an integral part of the plant in Chakan. The first car that was produced at this plant was a Skoda Fabia, and we are happy to roll-out Rapid on this occasion. I take this opportunity to congratulate the Volkswagen and Skoda teams for this success that has been achieved as a result of their synergies.''
According to the company, the Pune plant is a key element in Skoda Auto's India strategy.

Mark my words, this car will change the fortune of Skoda INDIA.

Btw, in some reports, it is mentioned that Skoda said it to be their 'COMPACT SEDAN', so will it essentially have more space than Fabia ?
The 2nd thing Skoda is planning is to extend the wheelbase of Rapid, do some alterations externally & name it as 'New Octavia'. This will probably come out in late 2012 or early 2013.

Nice pics 350Z.
I however, lost interest in Rapid as it looks same as Fabia. They should have tweaked it atleast a bit as Nissan did to Sunny where it doesn't look like Micra.
The rear also looks pale, just like Vento.

+1. And not to forget that A.S.S of VW is far better than Skoda, so even if Skoda prices Rapid a notch below Vento, it is still better to opt for Vento & have peace of mind. I just hope Vento introduces steering mounted controls soon, atleast in Highline version. Hopefully if Skoda keeps the pricing of Rapid like Ford Fiesta Classic, then there is a probability that it can receive a fair response from buyers.
