It was said to be on 7th Oct 2011, but as of now, no news. However, it will be launched before Diwali.

But the launch of Nissan Sunny has made me think whether Skoda will be able to dent in this segment, if the prices are not right. If Skoda prices the car above 8L petrol & above 9L for diesel, it will be very tough for them to get the nos.

Sunny or Rapid/Lauretta

Can anyone please let me know about :-

> How will Nissan Sunny fare w.r.t. Skoda Lauretta/Rapid/Fabia Sedan etc. ?

** Rear legroom is important. Will Skoda have good rear legroom ? It is very cramped in Octavia & even Laura doesn't have significant space at back.

Skoda Rapid is expected to cost more or less near the Volkswagen Vento.

So we can well say that it is indeed going to be Fabia Sedan & not an entirely new car.

The face will most likely resemble with Fabia.

This will be a rip-off then . Already I didn't like Vento as it looked like Polo (interiors too look same, especially the dash), then came new Vista which looks like Manza & now if Rapid/Lauretta looks like Fabia, then I would prefer Nissan Sunny.

I liked the way Nissan brought in Sunny. Despite being on the same V platform which is shared with micra, except for some minor interiors like AC controls, start/stop button, everything is different. The exterior too is far different & doesn't show that it is elder sibling of micra.

I can understand if this policy of sharing same face is used in entry level sedan/3 box cars like Swift Dzire, Etios etc. but if same is done in cases like Vento, Lauretta etc. then. .

Wonder what car designers do these days.

Yes. It is almost certain.

That's the question which has be itching many of us from sometime.

Here is the picture of uncovered rear-end of New Skoda Rapid. It looks almost identical to the Vento.

It's expected that Skoda will officially launch the car today. Above picture was snapped during special unveil ceremony. Maybe it was only for Skoda associates or dealers.

Front is Fabia,
Rear is Vento,
Engine same as Vento's,
Price of 6.5 for petrol & 7.5 for diesel,
Skoda..heard A.S.S is too expensive ,

Is it a good buy, especially when compared to Sunny & Vento itself ??

** As Vento top end model doesn't come with steering mounted controls, shall we expect Rapid to be without steering mounted controls too ?? If yes, it will be a rip off.

We have just received the following fresh official updates about Skoda Rapid:

- Škoda India starts production of Rapid from its Chakan Plant.

- The new compact Škoda sedan bears the name ‘Rapid’ NOT ‘Laurreta’.

- The car will be offered with a choice of diesel and petrol engines.

- Rapid is the first car from Škoda brand which has been designed, keeping in mind the special needs of Indian customers and will be exclusively manufactured in India.

- The commencement of production of Škoda Rapid is in line with Škoda Auto’s 2018 growth strategy which aims to double sales globally to at least 1.5 million units.
