Basically all the renderings which have seen up till now are more or less based on Vento with Fabia’s front. And I seriously hope actual outcome of product does NOT look like this. Hopefully the major part of designing cues will be shared with Fabia rather than Polo / Vento.

All of sudden the word has come out that Skoda is naming the “Rapid” sedan as “Lauretta”. I not only find this strange but also feel that until now car makers were sharing parts with their models but now the names too? Is this another unseen aspect of cost cutting?

Yes sharing platforms and basic design might be the new mantra. As companies are sisters they can very well do it. But it would be interesting to see how this changes the current automobile environment.

The Rapid / Lauretta cannot be the replacement of the Octavia. The Octavia was based on the Golf Platform (along with the Golf & Jetta). The Laura or New Octavia is based on the newer Golf platform. The Polo, Vento, Fabia and the Lauretta are based on the current Polo platform. So this is not an Octavia replacement but a new segment for Skoda altogether. The current Laura is due for replacement soon and Skoda plans to use the Octavia name on the next car.

The Laura nave was used in India as they were still selling the old Octavia side by side. Now that they will be selling only one, when the Laura is replaced, they will bring back the Octavia name.
