Re: "SARAH" - Detailed XUV 5OO Ownership Experience

1) to check the Key-less remote - looks like keyless remote battery slipped it's grove and after pushing it back started working.
It was just a loose connection and problem solved after rightly placing the battery in the grove.[:)]
2) Audio remote - no luck after changing the battery, the guy took it with him to the service center. Current ETA is about a week.
M & M engineer collected the remote two weeks ago and handed off a replacement today. Remote is now working fine. All iz well, all iz well[:)]

Sarah - under street light.

@Singh890, Raj_504 (in case they watch the thread) and all,
Does carnauba wax get a yellowish tint to my white XUV [confused]? As such are there any known side effects? We applied once this week but like to pick your brain to be on safer side.
Sorry for the late reply buddy. No carnauba wax won't leave any yellowish color on your vehicle. The only thing is that you need to buff it really good after applying the wax.

Thanks SinghG. Whenever I come across your beast and the way you maintain [clap], super RIN WALA commercial yad ata hi. "How come his short is brighter than mine?" Before I get completely caught up with such dilemma posted the question to hear straight from you. Looking at the WAX for the first time I was hesitant to go for full fledged application. Good to know it will not leave any yellow stint.

Re: "SARAH" - Detailed XUV 5OO Ownership Experience

Chennai 2 Bangalore – our 1st Long Drive in SARAH.

Ever since SARAH made our home, a long drive was due and the wait was finally over. It was Diwali holidays for kids and entire family jumped in to SARAH to unleash its capabilities.

We took Krishnagiri, Hosuru route on our way to Bangalore. The drive was just a breeze. Since it was our first attempt to use the Navigator (within Bangalore) we did not want to rely too much on GPS. But more or less it spell out the right destination.

I wanted to go for much more interactive drive so chose Palamaneru, Chittoor route for the return trip. Knowing the fact it is two line, completely enjoyed the drive. My wife was not as comfortable as I was till we cross Ranipet and hit AH5 high way. Weather was beautiful. I tested the nighttime drive as well.

Observations:

1) I was able to effortlessly accelerate to high speeds within no time. Touched 140 km for a short stretch. Suspensions are great, enjoyed the ride, Sound quality was equally good.

2) At one of the toll gates, when I tried to pull it to 1st gear the vehicle started going backwards. It happened to twice. After the restart things looked normal.

3) Looks like there is a slight pull towards left and during my return trip I felt mild discomfort in my right shoulder. I guess it needs wheel balancing during 1st service.

4) Low beam lighting is poor but in certain stretches managed to get over in high beam.

5) With full tank the mileage gone up to 12.1 KMP/L

6) Yet to test cruise control

7) >120 km speed felt steering vibrations.

I will let pictures talk the rest.

Re: "SARAH" - Detailed XUV 5OO Ownership Experience

A trip to Munnar during Christmas Break[:D]

A trip to Munnar, Kerala- we went out for a long drive but for a whiff of rejuvenating fresh air. We decided to leave from Chennai proceed to Thekkady then Munnar. The Drive was a bit adventurous, a delightful journey across aerial view of gardens, misty hills kissing the sky and surrounded by strips of waterfalls. The journey through Tea Estates, valleys, waterfalls, Flower gardens gave us a fantastic experience. "A much waited long drive in Sarah".

SARAH - did an excellent job through out the trip but with a small hitch.

At the entrance of Munnar there was road widening work in-progress and due to that all the vehicles were at bumper to bumper uphill. When I pulled it in 1st gear the vehicle started moving backwards and we tried multiple times. This caused a huge traffic jam but finally the other drivers helped us to push the vehicle in neutral. afterwards SARAH started behaving normally.

I escalated to M & M and they will pick up my vehicle this Saturday for further inspection.
Question, as this is very unpredictable behavior should I really go for the diagnosis now or should I wait for some more time? Appreciate any comments you may have.
Allowing photos to talk the rest[:)]

Re: "SARAH" - Detailed XUV 5OO Ownership Experience

very honest and down to earth review .
looks like I'm late to join in. I love your artistic presentation of photos and effects.
frankly, I don't like the name though. Sarah is very girly for any SUV. wish you many happy miles and drop me a line in need of Help. Hope you've read thunderbolt xuv 500 review.

Re: "SARAH" - Detailed XUV 5OO Ownership Experience

Good thread Suhas. Browsing thru TAI on this loooong weekend to explore XUV owners stories.

Moved from Cincinnati? You must be quite familiar with Cruise Control feature. I tried it few times and works perfectly (Bangalore~Chennai road via Krishnagiri). But got to be careful on Indian roads for unexpected crossing. If you are on the cruise, better to be ~100KMPH speed or at a speed you are confident of controlling your car (bringing it to halt within short distance).

SARAH is a pretty name btw.

Re: "SARAH" - Detailed XUV 5OO Ownership Experience

@bhvm, thanks for being direct and honest. You are the second person, even my son did not like the name but it was my daughter, was very influential during the decision making process. No wonder why my little angel liked the name so much[:D]. In fact it is not that bad but reflects to the concept of XUV5OO.

@manuman - I tried cruise but it was not all that exciting especially with stick shift. It is really a cool feature but doen't give you the level of comfort.

One mishap to SARAH this weekend [cry], while I was driving back home, suddenly, a small animal slammed in to the car and left a crack on the bumper. There are no scratches but a nasty crack. I am surprised at the poor quality of the plastic that does not have any impact strength[surprise]. My car has just crossed 5K mark and any thoughts on how I should go about fixing the issue? Suggestions are Much appreciated in advance. BTW, the car has a zero dep insurance coverage.

Re: "SARAH" - Detailed XUV 5OO Ownership Experience

Depends on the crack,

check with your local denting painting shop if it can be corrected with filler and some glueing agent or not. total charge will not be more than 1000rs but it will leave some marks or scars to be precise.

If you go through SVC they will charge for a new bumper and paint. which will cost around 9-10k plus waiting time in the svc.

If you go through insurance route you will have to shell out 1500-2000rs as per your poilcy's processing charges + you will loose the NCB next year since it is your first year the NCB will be around 5000rs. So with insurance route effectively you will shell out around 6000-7000rs.

My Optimus also faced something similar last year. where my younger brother made mutton biryani on the road. Front bumper was dislodged with a mounting clamp broken from the passenger side. along with slight mis allignment. the denter fixed it upto satisfaction and charged 600rs. but yeah there are scars in that bumper.

Re: "SARAH" - Detailed XUV 5OO Ownership Experience

Thanks Kinshuk - the bodyshop guy coated 18K for a new bumper and a 3 day wait. The guy told me that filler doesn't offer any strength and it might crack once again even with a foot rest. It just crossed 5k mileage so insurance seems to be an obvious choice. [cry]
