Re: "SARAH" - Detailed XUV 5OO Ownership Experience

350 km only.

Planning to take it for a reasonable drive during Dussera holidays.

Touch wood there are no notable niggles so far[:)].

Pick up is really good and especially you enjoy the feel when the beast cruises in top gears (5/6).

Observations so far,

1) One of the keyless remotes battery discharged which they would replace.
2) I am suspecting there is a slight pull towards right but need to double check before call for a wheel balance.
3) Front tyres seemed slightly depressed from looks but Tyrotronics doesn't shows any such signs.
4) Low beam has poor lighting, at times I even doubt whether the bulbs are glowing [anger] especially under city lights.
5) Haven't yet completely got used to the turning radius, reverse camera. At times I feel either I am over cautious than what I supposed to be[:)] or struggling for the right judgment.
6) Sometimes when try to switch from 6th gear, it quickly lands in 3rd instead of 5th - as the gear slots are closely placed need to move the stick little slowly.
7) There is very low bass and understand why a few folks have upgraded stock speakers / amplifiers immediately. There is a huge resistance from my family, if I float the idea. So have to wait for some more time. Having said that, the OEM Car audio system will not disappoint any regular music lovers.
8) At low speeds on uneven roads the ride is bit bumpy.
9) one of my friends who owns a Q5, liked SARAH very much for the features and the ride.
10) Placed orders for Meguir's ultimate polish, Carnauba formula 1 wax - thanks to Vicky.
11) I fixed a Panasonic portable DVD player (came with a seat headrest [:)]) to one of the seats, my daughter enjoys watching movies. I wanted to fix iPad to the other seat so that each kid can get a personalized experience. Going to order iPad seat mount headrest online, prior to the trip.

BTW, Has anyone got front sensors fixed on their beasts?

I guess I am late for the party.

Congratulations Suhas for the buy. You will observe that even in the long run this one can surprise you.

If you want some real kick take it to an empty road and start redlining every gear. The G force will literally push you back in your seat uptill the 5th gear's red line. Have done it couple of time mainly to show it off to my relatives [;)]

Maintaining a white shouldnt be much of a trouble just use Jopasu and a wash and wax job at least every fortnight.

Do get MF cloths for prevention from microfine scratches in the clear coat.

Thanks Kinshuk.arya.

I am having a hard time in convincing my Security / Watch guard to use this MF clothes. He prefers a very long clothes, in fact he went out and bought a new "Lungi" [:)] to convince me. I pulled my old car and shown him the swirl marks created by him out of conventional approach.
He is very diligent and reliable. I double team with him for sometime to get him used to MF alone.

May be true compare to the darker shades but it is taking sweet time [cry]to keep it clean.

Any comments on fixing sensors on front bumper? I have seen that on my Friends Q5 found very useful.

3) Front tyres seemed slightly depressed from looks but Tyrotronics doesn't shows any such signs.
Download the Mahindra BlueSense App on your smartphone, it will show you the exact tyre pressure along with the temperature.
4) Low beam has poor lighting, at times I even doubt whether the bulbs are glowing [anger] especially under city lights.
+ 100.

6) Sometimes when try to switch from 6th gear, it quickly lands in 3rd instead of 5th - as the gear slots are closely placed need to move the stick little slowly.
Takes some time, you have to get used to it.
8) At low speeds on uneven roads the ride is bit bumpy.
+ 100. Only solution is - dont slow down for small bumps and potholes! You may feel some pain in your heart though!

9) one of my friends who owns a Q5, liked SARAH very much for the features and the ride.
Offer him to replace your XUV for his Q5!
BTW, Has anyone got front sensors fixed on their beasts?
I would say its not necessary. You will just need some time to get used to the size of the vehicle. Rest is your choice.

Re: "SARAH" - Detailed XUV 5OO Ownership Experience

Hi Suhas,

one should be able to fix the sensors in the front bumper. You can use the ones available for rear along with a LCD RVM and get it hooked to a switch instead of any gears so that it can be used whenever needed, but this type of mod can void your warranty consult your RM first.

Or another option can be to get the mirror used in Fortuner. I found that mirror to be very useful during my TD of T-Fort it will be cheaper than the entore sensor assembly and will also not void your warranty.

Regarding the Low beam being not enough upgrade to 4300K, 55W HIDs in the projector. Much better light. Although get it fitted from a trusted mechanic and DO NOT LET him SPLICE any ORIGINAL WIRES. as that will definitely void the warranty. or make a trip to Pune I will fit it in yours too [;)]

I have been thinking of doing this ever since bought the vehicle but somehow went lazy. Immediately downloaded. Yet to get my hands around. Thanks for the reminder.

With infrastructure projects are going all over Chennai, Pitholes are part and parcel and getting used to it I think is the only solution.

Offer him to replace your XUV for his Q5!
I still have to get him 3 to 4 XUVs for the price match[cry], but he or I never said XUV is any way superior to Q5. Going by the features and the drivability he felt that this is definitely a better VFM in its league. I took it as compliment.[:)]

Since I had gone for a rear camera I am thinking is there a way to move the rear sensors to front side. From feasibility standpoint.

I have not seen this, let me find out how it looks like. Another point is due to second row middle seat headrest, the rear view is completely bad. Do you have any suggestions for that?

Had it had been two years ago, I would have certainly grabbed your offer. My younger brother used to live in Pune. I went through the conversation that you and BHVM had before the purchase. I will think about the upgrade after one long drive.

You can move the rear sensors to the front bumper but that will leave 4 holes in the rear bumper.

For the middle seat headrest I have removed the one in the middle as it is not used much anyways.

Re: "SARAH" - Detailed XUV 5OO Ownership Experience

err! why to fit rear sensors in the front bumper, you might as well buy 2 pairs of sensors and fit upfront. Check the Mercedes A class review - you can emulate that setup rather.

Re: "SARAH" - Detailed XUV 5OO Ownership Experience

Thanks a lot Vijay.

Teething troubles,
Noted a problem with Car Audio remote, called RM and he sent a person home

1) to check the Key-less remote - looks like keyless remote battery slipped it's grove and after pushing it back started working.
2) Audio remote - no luck after changing the battery, the guy took it with him to the service center. Current ETA is about a week.
