Re: Fuel Prices Reaching Sky High!!

There are 2 points to the argument, a - indian govt can never bring the rate of diesel at par with petrol. It will create a mayhem. This country runs on diesel. Ok, we do see a million cars running on petrol, but for everything else sister fuel is used. The govt still has to run 3 more years, and if it wants to do it peacefully forget abt diesel price hike.
b - diesel cars are improving day-by-day. The engines are not as same as they used to be. In fact the newer engines are more tuned and refined. See how Honda is wandering in the world of diesel, when it has ruled the roost till now on Petrol.
With majority of cars being sold in Europe are in Diesel, I really feel that in some time we will reach there too, provided quality of fuel in India improves.
On the price front, 45% of money goes to Govt on Petrol. 28% to central, and around 17% to state.

Re: Fuel Prices Reaching Sky High!!

I was searching and found following rates of petrol worldwide. Looks little old data but assuming that increase would be in the same proportinate every where. Out of 45 countries, India is at 11 number but look at the countries between 1 to 10. 3 out of 10 are Indian neighbors and others are not far off par say. [frustration]

Thats bad!

I share your feelings. I have a Swift VXI, but the fuel costs have risen so much in last 1 or so year, that I don't think it makes any good financial sense to keep a petrol car.

I am feeling the brunt while driving my two-wheeler itself , i can't even imagine poor petrolheads driving cars! Before for 100bucks fuel in my bike i can go around 100-120kms , then it reduced to around 80KMS nowadays only 70KMS!

Re: Another petrol price hike soon?

India's largest oil marketing company Indian Oil Corporation has hinted that the company has a ‘desire’ to hike petrol fuel prices further by Rs. 1.35/ litre from the beginning of June 1 [frustration].

Read more at: Another petrol price hike soon?
I think, these companies are minting money from the customers and we do not have a choice. While coming to office today, we were discussing and I reverted that even if they hike it to Rs.100/-, we do not have a choice.[frustration]

So, let us not break our head on something which we cannot control.

Another price hike soon. At this rate I would have to open a charity fund to support my petrol expenses. I do around 1200 KMs in a month, and it is just turning out to be more than I get as sal [cry]

Re: Fuel Prices Reaching Sky High!!

Petrol price statistics in India

old one but i did get the latest structure
'"Suppose if the petrol price per litre in Chennai is Rs 51.90, here the break-up of cost calculated by the government:

  • Basic Price = Rs 21.93
  • Excise duty = Rs 14.35
  • Education Tax = Rs 0.43
  • Dealer commission = Rs 1.05
  • VAT = Rs 5.5
  • Crude Oil Custom duty = Rs 1.1
  • Petrol Custom = Rs 1.54
  • Transportation Charge = Rs 6.00
  • Total price = Rs 51.90

So for a Rs 22 litre petrol at pumps, consumers in India pay Rs 28 tax extra.[shock]"

Why is this so can we do anything to this endless hike....[anger]
why shouldn’t the government reduce tax on fuel
