The Light in the 4th image is misleading. I adjusted the camera settings and clicked the image next to it. This is how the light looks from the front. really!

rg27,
Thanks for the super pics.
From my experience, your High beam & Low beam pattern is really perfect!
For your doubt about high beam, we need to study how human brain reacts to light.
Cree H4 lamp uses 2 LEDs for low beam, and adds one more for high beam. The High beam LED adds some Height to the beam pattern as well as distance which can be clearly seen from your image.

Now, as your brain is seeing really bright, Awesome, super-duper low beam spread close by, it feels that the light at the distance is somewhat weaker than expected. Thats the reason High end vehicles use Foreground limiters in their HID projector setups! Your high beam is really fine. [clap]
Other difference is how Traditional H4 Bulbs work. When you Engage high beam, the low beam Filament is TURNED OFF. So your brain can only focus at the distance. The Shilan Cree Bulb is designed to keep Low+High LEDs ON at the same time[evil]. I really appreciate this effect on indian roads to spot potholes, Dividers etc.

Else, don't let the driver dangle around somewhere. Tie it up with a zip tie. or atleast tape it. The Banging driver will destroy itself on bad roads.
headlight indicator may not work as the current drawn by LED bulb is quite less. Its not enough to signal the indicator.

manish12345,
The LED you selected is not good. LED chip is too wide and Brand (chip) is definitely not cree. Better to stick with Proper HID Kit. I have used h8 HID for my XUV here-

if you want LED, try this-

Thanks, i don't want to install hid's because every 4-5 months hid ballast or bulb will not work. So I'm looking for led's.

Manish,
I am using HID since 2 years. Not one Bulb or Ballast has fused. I guess you brought wrong quality of kit. Otherwise your wiring is incorrect or you may need a relay setup for better reliablity.

For upgrading the headlight, You need the same LED as rg27 is using in his bike. Go back a few pages for the details. I assume your cruze uses H4 setup.

Agreed!, but imho this is a bit dangerous, since the eyes are adjusting for the bright light in front, so the pupils are shrunk accordingly. So, even if there is a floodlight just in front of you, the time taken to adjust for the distant objects is more now.
I think it would take a little getting used to. Tinting could help? and i need to do things fast!.. the rains are about to reach my place soon!

Done!

Ok.. so less current is being drawn currently?.. might be the reason why my pilot lamps look dull? or, it could be because of the relatively intense headlight! My brain needs a bit of training here lol.[:D]

1. try putting a yellow film/ tint on the headlamp. will help with the rains. and no, it's not easy to control the foreground light unless you have a projector.

3. they're looking dull compared to intense Cree lamps in there! man! going from 700-1000 lumens straight to 3000 is quite something.

4. rg what you now need is a high beam assist. something fit for 1km plus range. try those small led aux lamps from Aurora or welldone (oledone). there's also something called cree u5 /u7.

bhvm, If i use a projector lens setup for the LED, will my beam pattern be okay? Will i get a high beam and a low beam?

I used the new setup for my travel to office today. It is close to 50 Kms one way and my eyes were strained and left me with a headache by the end of it! I was constantly trying to focus my eyes at a distance, since if i look nearer, the rest of the world looks dull and even low beams comming on the opposite directions feel bright! You are right with the brain's tendency to perceive distant objects as dark, even if there is sufficient light., but this is creating a strain on the eyes. i ride at around 60kmph speeds, but, till i find an alternative, i think i need to lower that speed to even 50..

I hope to find an auto electrician to help with a projector lens, if it can make things better, else im going to put this up on olx! :P

oh that's sad rg.
why don't you try adjusting the beam height?

projector setup isn't going to be easy. it requires opening up the headlight & cutting/drilling away plastic. also, wiring is complicated. the setup will cost you min 5k plus. bulb will be a different type so you need a new bulb.

why don't you add High beam assists? I have em on lot of my vehicles.

Beam height i have to adjust more then. I had set the current level just to ensure that there is no harsh light on oncommers. I checked this at around 7 m distance from headlight. I'll adjust more then..[roll]

An Auto electrician near my place had offered to put in a HID set up in my bike for 1600 Rs + 300 for labor charges. I didn't want HID's. So, would it take soo much to use the LED's instead of the HID?

[confused]

Go on a deserted road to adjust the beam height. Adjust keeping atleast 50 meters in sight. Take a friend along to help you judge the beam from oncomers perspective. And don't get robbed on deserted roads!

Don't go for that kind of HID as I can guess. He'll simply stuff a regular HID bulb directly in your reflector, making problems even worse. And HID on Bike is not recommended.

Anyways, I didn't understand what you're saying. Take soo much to use like what?

Oh.. i meant the cost of going for HID's projector housing alone with some sort of retrofit instead of the complete HID setup. The 5K vs the 1.6K quoted by the technician[surprise].

He did mention about HID with projector only.
But something tells me, that might just not work.

For the Aux lamps, i have to go with a different RR unit (piaggio's) since the load on battery will be increased.

Beam adjustment will have to be done temporarily. This in an issue i didnt foresee lol![:)]

Yesterday night, i adjusted the headlight screw for beam adjustment. I'll post the results (if successful :P ) by tonight.

What i had observed was that my headlights were aimed too low. For my 35W stock halogen, this was working good, and there was noticable difference in light. But, for this LED, the current setup does not work. I positioned the bike such that it's headlight was approx 7.5 m from a wall and adjusted the screw such that the upper limit of the low beam(on the wall) was at the same height as the headlight(around 7-7.5m - i didnt measure this, just did it roughly..)

Earlier, my low beam would shine at the license plates of the vehicle in front of me.. now, it shines somewhere around the top of the boot/just below the RVM's... No glares at 8m.

Its efficacy will b checked tonight :)
