Re: Renault Duster Road Test Drive Review

Thanks Sam.

One thing I noticed when I was driving last monday on the waters accumulated on the roads after heavy rain, the waters were splashing on the front windshield and it affects the visibility while driving at decent speeds. This seems to be a design flaw. ave to slowdown when you see huge water accumulation.
Also, at high speed, not only water keep flashing on front windshield, but speed will also marked decreased, imposing threat if following vehicle is too close & it feel on steering that wheels in water may be loosing traction / grip on road.

This may be a generalized phenomenon, as it occurred with mine Innova, i10 & Mahindra SsangYong Rexton, common being, it occurred with either vehicle at high speed only ( >90-100kmph). So probably better to slow down at huge water accumulation.

The wind noise is high when you drive above 120kmph and seems to be a design. Is there a way out to reduce this. Has anyone done something to overcome this ?

Thanks,

Re: Renault Duster Road Test Drive Review

Duster will have a total new exterior and revamped tail lamps as Renault does see customer valuing the extetior design which is testimony to the sales figures of Terrano.
This redesign is expected in 2017.

Thanks,
I've heard that the rain visors (named as 'Wind Deflectors' in official Renault accessory listing) do help in reducing the high speed wind noise. Apparently they deflect the wind away from the roof rails, which are the primary source of the noise!

Again, i haven't got those installed but friends do tell me it works!

Re: Renault Duster Road Test Drive Review

I’m in the market looking for a replacement to my Suzuki Ritz. Renault Duster was one of the options. The main gripe I have for Duster is that its clutch is very heavy. I’m comparing this with Ritz, which also I felt has a very had clutch. The clutch of Duster is heavier than Ritz! Duster 85’s clutch is kind of acceptable, but Duster 110’s was unbearable. With a short test drive itself my left leg was hurting. I would have gone for Duster 85, but then there is another thing which aggravates the whole problem. The size of the clutch pedal. The clutch pedal was of very small size. You got to use the toe fingers to press the clutch and that too such a hard clutch! I asked this to the sales executive. He says that, there is a general complaint that the clutch of Duster is hard, but no one ever mentioned about the pedal being small (he even said Duster is rough and tough and that’s why the pedal is so hard, which in my opinion, is a load of baloney). I was in Renault showroom and I saw Scala display vehicle there. I thought, if the Duster’s clutch is this heavy and small, even Scala’s should be. To my surprise, Scala’s clutch was very light and pedal was of comfortable size. Why are they doing this? Some pictures of the pedals for your reference below (even compared to the brake pedal, clutch pedal is very small!). Did any of you felt the same? And because of this clutch problem, I decided to take Duster (even 85) out of my list of options.

Re: Renault Duster Road Test Drive Review

Would have agreed if you have test driven 110PS with a manufacturing badge prior to Mar 2014. Even I did the test drive of 110PS in Dec13 and the one in Apr14, the difference in these test drives were extremely opposite. The earlier one was hard and that was one reason I was put off after that. However during Apr14 I could not find any difference between my Swift's petrol clutch and 110PS clutch. Looks like you would have been given a 110PS with a manufacturing badge prior to Mar14 and hence you feel the heaviness.

Have driven so far 7k kms and the clutch pedal size has not made any difference in driving.

Re: Renault Duster Road Test Drive Review

Hi Guys,

I have done TD of almost all types of dusters so far now (Diesel).
Here are my observations:

1.) 85 PS: Normal Clutch, nice drivability, and no turbo lag with a decent mileage of around 17 KMPL in city and 24-25 on Highway.

2.) 110 PS: Soft clutch in new versions and decent drivabilty with minimal lag. Mileage of around 15 KMPL in city and around 20 on highways

3.) 110 4x4: No lag at all, 15-16 KMPL in City and 20-21 KMPL on highways.

Discounts are very good on 110PS versions, its around 90000 on all models and 1 lac for adventure edition.

4x4 discounts are 11.29 L for base 4x4 model and 50000 on top model.

With these discounts now the duster has become somewhat VFM product

Spotted a Duster in an uncommon color (Cosmos Blue). It's a limited edition model. Looks catchy.

Renault has silently updated the top-end variants of 85 PS version (RxL) as claimed in a report by Gaadi.com. Some of the revisions include:

> New steering wheel

> MID now in a separate dial

> Better engine noise insulation

> Better rubber sealing on doors

> Improved paint quality (after rust issue in India-made UK models)

Most of the changes are borrowed from AWD model. Same are expected to be soon carried on 110PS variants too.
