Saw a Duster on the way to office today White colour.
I felt It was smaller and very compact. No rd presence at all. almost the height of wagon R with big tires.

I am in a catch-22 situation either to cancel my RXZ 110 ps booking and re-consider other brands or to give the French a benefit of doubt.

Cancelling or not would be a personal decision but definitely make sure to check out other cars in the similar range.

Actually it has a better road presence if compared in its own segment (Read Ford Ecosport).

I actually disagree with this.
Reason- There is a new duster in my office parking yesterday night. we both got off the parking lot at the same time followed by an other Safari and were all heading on the same direction home. Due to a heavy and sudden down pour of rain, major part of the rd was clocked with water and traffic Jam. Also, due to the under construction of a elevated high way work, the rd was almost like a dirt track. I was comfortably able to zoom through and also present traffic was giving way to me and safari in moving forward. But when it came to Duster, it was struggling to move.
Trust me, its not becos its new vehicle, as the driver is my very close colleague and i know abt him. But its the presence felt on the rd. Not even Bike guy was ready to give him way. Also, the tires were spinning more and struggling to hold the ground. Not sure if thats normal in duster. Need to talk to him today when in office.

Krish if you are taking about making a solid statement on road the duster can't come close to safari and Scorpio no matter what it dosent look as smashing and dosent have that gate crasher look to it I agree with you completely .
I think 350Z was comparing it to the ecosport since both are somewhat from the same segment .

That's only one reason holding me for cancellation. Unfortunately in the present auto scenario not much options available for Compact SUV's in the VFM territory. Anyways, thanks for your suggestion.

Today I visited the showroom for having a look at the moonlight silver Duster (the one I have booked). Saw 2 parked outside the showroom. They were looking classy but only thing which bothers me is their road presences. Its like a dwarf Suv. But I am positive its looks would age gradually. The conventional designs are much lasting than the funky designing and cosmetology. Old Tata Safari in black still appears stunning.

Attaching few picture of duster which I clicked from my handy lens today of RXL 110 ps variant. RXZ 110 was in there stockyard so could not lay my hand on it. I feel Moonlight silver looks fairly neat but woodland brown steals the show. Btw, I desired to go for brown which gave a panic attack to the showroom staff and update that they have received only 5-6 vehicle till date of woodland. These claims are being made by a dealer who gathered 500+ bookings in a month. I think there is massive scarcity of this color and they don't even expect to get delivery in coming 1 and half month ! Strange but true.

What is the waiting period the dealer is telling you and how long are you ready to wait iam asking this because very soon the quanto(mini-xylo) from mahindra will be launched you can consider that as a option too . There is ecosport but it won't launch before jan 2013 .

Earlier I had booked silver duster @ pictures, but currently I am inclining towards woodland brown, as I think darker color of duster looks more prominent on road. Now frustrating part is the waiting period of brown would be around one & a half month, Minimum ! , even for client like me who had booked duster prior to launch (on 15 June). Definitely I would consider other options if I have to wait till October. More than quanto I am focusing on safari strome launch in September. Let see how much is this machine easy on eyes. Ecosport charms me with its niche appearance, but its sub 4 meter category, which get automatically ruled out, as I am already finding space scarcity in duster (2nd row). Seeing Ecosport Brazilian advertisement I bet there are awesome gadgets on board and more refined interiors and exterior design than duster.

Is it possible that incase you cancel the booking the dealer will give your money back ? If yes then tell him you are ready to wait for the brown colour and in mean time if tata launches the strome go have a nice long test drive on all kind of roads if possible and then evaluate in duster/ strome on parameters you think are most important for you .
If you like strome great cancel your duster booking if you are not satisfied with strome then duster booking will be anyways there right ?
Btw duster and ecosport will have somewhat same kind of seating space in front and back just the boot space will be less in ecosport compared to duster .

I saw white duster couple of days back & looks like bonsai UV . If ecosport is smaller than this, it may well be a pygmy.

Duster is one of the most hopeless vehicles I have seen, doesn't drive like ertiga, doesn't wander like scorp & has no road presence of safari. Why buy something which has nothing in it ?

To me, waiting for Storme looks the best option for now.

Is it possible that incase you cancel the booking the dealer will give your money back ? Any dropped car would be picked up immediately. I endorse, ecosport may have similar 2nd row legroom as duster. Duster has overdone with boot space and ecosport may have compromised on that space to reduce the size. If tata strome doesn't appeal me, then sure its worth waiting for Ecosport :)

"Renault have no plans to share the Duster with Nissan for a re-badged version."

Its time for me to stop dreaming about 'low cost Duster' from Nissan and start saving aggressively for a real Duster.

Didn't have the patience to read after 25 pages. What I noticed is a few people are hell bent on wanting the Duster to fail. I'm sorry to inform you, that is just not going to happen. People are harping about the interior quality but a blind to the shoddy interiors of all Marutis. You say it is not a SUV a compared to the Scorpio or Safari, yet you bring in the Ertiga to the argument. The Ertiga is a MUV. Who has determined what are true SUV's and what are not. The 4WD Duster will probably do everything the Scorpio and Safari or Range Rover and Land Cruiser Prado can do and may be more. I know some of you hate the Duster and you hate for it is even without owning it. I too hate Maruti based on my terrible experience of owning one but I do not go around Maruti bashing on all threads. I did it on my ownership thread and that is it. If you don't like the Duster, just don't buy it or recommend it. Buy the Ertiga and be happy. Call it a SUV if you please. The thousands of people who put their money on the Duster are not fools.
