Why you think the engine capacity it less ? It's good considering the weight of the duster ? I agree it is not priced right and the interiors are not that great but it is a capable vehicle worldwide and has a proven solid engine .

Yes Scorpio is a Scorpio !!

I still remember during its launch and its advertisement was a revolution and important was the situation of Mahindra after TATA Sumo.

Even now Scorpio scores on lot of things and especially just think of a Black Scorpio and its looks ! great design and it just go like a rocket. Even today it is a good buy when I do not wish to talk about its FE, because it has to be see beyond the FE angle.

Unfortunately I just traveled only once in this beauty. I will try when I meet a Scorp-TAIan

See you need compare the duster RXE model not the rxl one with scorpio lx.

Now what you wrote is correct this are paper figures .
I love Scorpio a lot and it's mighty look .

But in real driving conditions since I have driven both the cars were duster excels on the Scorpio is
Ease of driving , handling , and ride quality , fuel economy in range of 18-20 and super slick gear shifts the Scorpio is very crude and the interiors though not mind blowing are way much better then the Scorpio and safari .
The 1.5 engine on duster is great compared to the weight of the car I can understand if the duster was weighing like Scorpio but it's way way lighter then the Scorpio hence its equally quicker like the Scorpio .

Again this subjective opinion . If youbare talking about space and comfort Scorpio is not that great . One care rules in space and comfort is the safari period I would say it gives more comfort then the fortuner too.

I agree with you on the space part. But I love this SUV during its launch as this was some thing new in those times and I am more impressed with its looks even today !!

Guys,

Although we are saying a lot about the following

Plastics
Engine
Fit and Finish
Pricing
and VFM Tag

We are comparing it to other available models in market like ertiga, safari and scorpio.
Here are my 2 cents.

Engine: (Only diesel)
85 BHP: when we look at the power to weight ratio of the engine its almost equal to other available SUVs in market. Kerb weight = 1200 kgs (approx) PTW= 71BHP per tonne.

whereas Scorpio has 1800 (approx) kerb weight and 120 BHP (for lx 2.2L variant) hence PTW= 67 BHP/tonne

Safari is of around 2200 kgs and of 140 BHP hence PTW= 64 BHP/ tonne

COnclusion: Duster has better PTW than others and is more agile and powerful.

If we compare 110 BHP engine than the PTW would be 88BHP/Tonne.

Pricing: Base Model of all the vehicle costs in Delhi (approx)

Duster: 7.99L
Safari: 8.28L
Scorpio: 8.1L

Interior Fit and Finish and Plastics:
Out of the three vehicles Duster has the best fit and finish and plastic quality followed by Safari (quality) and fit and finish (scorpio).

Equipment Level:

Safari beats both the vehicle hands down in terms of equipments in base variant.

Space: Again Safari followed by Duster and than scorpio. Yes scorp is at third due to very less space in middle row and the recline angle is most annoying in scorp.

Drivability: Safari is good, Scorp is better than safari and yet to drive Duster so no comments on THis. BUt as a monocoque Duster will win easily due to ease of driving and less body roll.

FE: Here Duster wins by a great margin of around 7-8 kmpl.

Status Symbol:
Safari is uber cool, followed by Scorpio and Duster is like a man in his tuxedo.

All the above mentioned points are partly based on facts and partly basd on my personal observations.

This is exactly what iam saying ,people just get hooked on the engine power alone without looking at the gross weight .
Since I have driven all the vehicles mentioned above duster is the most easy to drive ,followed by Scorpio and safari( only because of the large turning radius ) .

I drove duster today and it is unfortunate to say that Duster is like lorry with only 5 people in . not worth for money friends !!

It is not just power:wt but even torque which matters.
Consider where 5 people are seated in duster & then they sit in Safari or scorp. Which will pull better ??

And if on FE is of importance, best to buy Logan/Verito. Same stuff.

Last but not the least, Duster is not SUV . Please don't insult likes of Prados & Land Rovers by calling Duster as SUV. Duster is just high GC hatch with looks similar to UV.

By putting moustache to 5 year old boy, doesn't make him a man.

for 5 people how can we call that as SUV, it is just a prolonged Hatch or a King size Hatch
