for 5 people how can we call that as SUV, it is just a prolonged Hatch or a King size Hatch

I saw Duster today morning while coming to office, It looked good. But some how felt there was no road presence. The wow feeling was missing, that comes within when we see other new cars. But then I just had glance of it.

Good Morning all TAI Members,

Looking at the remarks one thing is very much clear that people have a misconception about SUV and its defination.
IMO SUV has
A butch Look (leave aside its good looking or bad)
Has the ability to navigate on most of the terrains with low end grunt to keep pulling in tricky situations (petrol+diesel)
Has sufficient Ground Clearence
May or maynot have 4x4 option
High commanding driving position
Mono or LOF that doesnt matter for a vehicle to be tagged as SUV

So IMO Duster is a SUV...

WHile talking about Torque if we calculate than Duster has the best Torque to Weight ratio for 85 BHP it has 166NM/Tonne and for 110 BHP it has 192 nm/tonne.
Which is far more than Safari and better than Scorpio.

To tap this torque and BHP we need an equally good quality of gearbox, which duster has. Will throw more light on this after a detailed TD in the coming weekend.

Road Presence:

It has a good road presence much better than ertiga and xylo and, much better than so called FUSION and Bolero. So its a bit subjective.

See its not only FE which matters, a vehicle which can run on not so good roads, has high GC, Decent PtW and good FE is need of the hour. Equipment level is low as compared to price point. The prices should have been low by 50K or so to make it a VFM vehicle.

Will be going for a TD in the coming weekend hope and pray that i'll get my camera so that i can bring some sllluurrrppyyy pics of the vehicle.

Another perspective : Renault has a 4x4 version of the Duster. They may or may not launch the same here. Could THAT be called an SUV or is that one too a sedan on stilts and 4WD

Just for the heck of blaming the engine they have blamed it. I did drive Logan with the same engine and very less power output with four people onboard and it never shows a hint of underpowered car as i used to drive Indigo LS first Gen at that time.

So let me and (you also) have a TD of the vehicle and than only we can comment on its underpowered or overpowered or sufficient powered nature.
Have just read the review of DNA and it says the engine is fine with a minimal turbo lag (which i spresent in all diesel vehicles). IAm not talking in terms of BMW or audi engines.

This is exactly what iam saying ,people just get hooked on the engine power alone without looking at the gross weight .
Since I have driven all the vehicles mentioned above duster is the most easy to drive ,followed by Scorpio and safari( only because of the large turning radius ) .

CRV is or can be called as a SUV even with 5 seater which passes all the weight/power etc But please Lets not call Duster an SUV (soft or hard rd) and spoil the word.
I would surely agree if its categorized under a Massive Sedan or what ever but not SUV plx.

Nothing changes if you call it a suv or not. Ertiga some call it a mini uv , some call it blown up ritz , some call mini xylo a blown up wagon r and mahindra is calling it mini suv . So whatever it is so far 6000 people have booked duster for whatever reasons they know the best .simple it is if you like it book it if not forget it .

Audi has Quattro, Merc has 4Matic, then even sedans become SUVs if AWD or 4x4 is the only criterion. There are only true 2 SUVs -

Land Rover Sport & Land Cruiser Prado.
On lover end, Pajero & Montero fits the bill.
But duster ??

I think you meant MASSIVE HATCH.

And coming to reviews; well, all reviews which I have seen are taken into account seeing the 110 ps diesel top end version, which will surely be better than other models. But I am very sure that 90% Duster will sell in diesel & amongst these, atleast 80% will sell with 85 ps engine.
I still haven't seen any review with 85 ps powered engine.

BTW, the price of top end diesel duster 110 ps is about same as that of XUV W6. Now why would one buy Duster instead of W6 ?
