Tough Guy, hats off to your travelling. I had also just gone to Shimla by road with the Ertiga only. And seeing your pics just makes me miss that place again.

Re: Ownership Review: Polo 1.2 TDI Comfortline (Diesel)

Yet to do the past maths, but upcoming expenses in next 3 months are following:

1) 5th Service: 15-20K
This figure sounds a bit too steep for a regular service. Please share break-up charges of previous service if possible. Do let us know what VW is charging for the 5th service before going ahead so that we could advice. I'm sure you can save some cash.

I expect steep figures considering my experience with them in past, ahead of fifth service I have to prepare myself mentally because they always throw shocker on me on my each visit [:D]

As requested I prepared a estimate for fifth service based on my last service bills, we may expect new things during the fifth servicing:

Labour charge:

Paid service charges: 1350
Whell alignment and balancing: 1000
Syl lubrication: 400
both front and reak brake installation: 1000
Total:3750

B) Parts charge:

Engine oil: 4100
Silicon spray: 1000
Filter element: 370
Air filter: 400
Fuel filter: 1250
Pollen filter: 1000
Windshield cleaner: 300
Brake pads for disk: 2500
Brake shoes for rear: 1500
Balance weight: 100
A) Total:12520
Estimated cost (A+B)= 6270 taxes extra

Polo update:

Last Sunday Explorer-1 got a new battery, he was experiencing a longer self then what it was a year ago, horn and headlight was also showing the sign of battery wear out. Prior to battery change I noticed the car stereo restarts on each self which earlier was not the case .

So considering my Nainital trip next week I went for the change, booked a running repair appointment with VW Delhi-West a week ago, they confirmed the availability of imported German battery, they quoted Rs.7675 (Including installation) for new battery which was after the discount of Rs.400 for older battery.

Explorer-1 now felt the change and behaving well now :)

Though one issue cropped up, instead of showing distance to empty MID is throwing temperature data on display service advisor told me to wait till next fill and it will be back to DTE lets wait and see.

Below are the bill and battery wear out report snapshots:

Polo road trip update

Last week did Delhi-Nainital-Delhi road trip of 681 Kms took Delhi - Moradabad - Rampur - Bilaspur - Rudrapur - Haldwani - Nainital route, it was mostly empty and we manage to cover this route in less than 6 hours with couple of breaks enroute.

Road between Delhi to Moradabad was in fantastic condition, 45 KM stretch from Rampur to Rudrapur is painful, time consuming, filled with numerous potholes and local stunt bikers, from Rudrapur to Nainital road is fantastic except few bad patches.

This was a 4 days of leisure trip with only Nainital as target, we started early morning of 13th Nov'14 and returned on night of 16th Nov'14, our stay was in KMVN Tallital which was almost empty like Nainital.

Coincidentally annual Shard-O-Utsav was also going on in Nainital ground, CM of Uttarakhand was also present in this event.

Like every trip Explorer-1 performed quite well on this road trip and gave us hassle free service with smile.

Some pics from this road trip:

Fifth Service update

Last week Polo crossed 75,000 KM mark, time for fifth service which include both front and rear brake change and mandatory regular service. Total cost of fifth service was Rs. 23002

With upcoming Kinnaur trip I want clutch overhaul but part was not available though clutch has some life left service center quoted 15-18K for this job will visit them soon.

Tyres wear out completely will replace current Yokohama A drive with A drive again or newly launched Earth my budget is between 16-20K.

Renewed the insurance from Oriental bank they charged Rs. 12262 for 0 dep insurance current insurer TATA AIG quoted Rs 16500 for same IDV value of Rs. 394000.

Explorer-1 crossed 76K mark and its time for second tyre change, went to BK tyres Lajpat Nagar and replaced the current set of Yokohama A drive 185/70 R14 with same make and size.

Our Polo also nearing 75k km and might need disk replacement. 23k is a big blow [cry]
What problem are you facing ? Pre-mature wear of the pads ? Not enough brakinng effect ?Have you got the discs skimmed ? Skim away the rough edges- CarWale

Both will be done for 400rs and discs will be good as new and will last for a long time.

None of the above [:D] Brake pad is quite worn out and didn't change in time, now the difference from edge is kind of 1-2 mm compared to the area in contact with the pad. Was thinking of polishing, but not sure whether the VW guy does that or insist in replacing the rotor.

Re: Ownership Review: Polo 1.2 TDI Comfortline (Diesel)

There's no perfect time for replacing the brake pads. Replace if screeching noise starts coming.

Anyways , mate i don't think any manufacturer tries to repair. They just know one word , replace. If you'll ask them they'll say " saar it will create problem in future , no warranty saar".

Even if you prefer ASS. i'll still recommend outside mechanics for these things. Hyundai said the same to me for my santro's disc. Paid them the labor and went to my mechanic and all was done for 550rs. And i have covered 60k kms after that, not 10k not 20k.

You can visit the station and ask them. If you do , please update what they said.

No screetching sound, still superior braking power, pad reaching its metal base. Honda, Maruti, Hyundai service centers does rotor polishing. No trust in giving VAG car to local mechs or 3rd party service and since its VW, doubtful of them doing repair job. They say change, change, change everytime.

Re: Ownership Review: Polo 1.2 TDI Comfortline (Diesel)

I don't understand why not give polo to a local mechanic. They will open everything in front of you , you'll go with the mechanic to the shop where they'll do that.

Anyways , it's your car [:D] i can only give suggestions. I too won't do a thing if someone says something but my mind says no [;)]

Whatever you do , keep us posted.
