Re: Ownership Review: Polo 1.2 TDI Comfortline Diesel (90K Crossed)

Road trip updates

Our frequency of road trips were decreased since last 1 year due to my new born baby, did only 4 to 5 road trips during last one year that too without my wife.

Now we resume our road trips and did first trip to Delhi-Gwalior-Agra-Delhi with our 3 months old son. We started our 5 days road trip on 22nd Mar'16 via Yamuna Expressway and reached Gwalior in 6 hours, road condition was awesome from Delhi to Gwalior and only bottleneck was 20-30 Kms stretch near Agra. We stayed in Gwalior regency and hotel central park in Gwalior while in Agra stayed in crystal sarovar premiere hotel.

For this month I have planned for Uttarakhand road trip during Holi weekend and for next month Lansdowne road trip.

Road trip updates

As planned completed Holi weekend trip to Nainital for 4 nights with my wifey and 4 month old son. Our family friend too joined us for this trip with their one year old son.

Stayed at Vikram vintage Inn for one night, Rewa retreat for two nights and KMVN Tallital for one night. We started our journey on 24th Mar'16 in two separate cars, roads were mostly empty we managed to reach Nainital in less than 6 hours. Explorer-1 did quite well on this trip once again and is now very near to cross 100K mark landmark.

We took Delhi-Moradabad-Rampur-Rudrapur-Haldwani route for both to and fro journey.

For this month Lansdowne road trip is planned and for next month Mussoorie road trip.

Few picture to share with you guys:

Wow ToughGuy, your explorer is reaching another milestone soon 1,00,000kms. [clap] I can only dream of clocking that figure on my Polo which is sitting idle at about 37,000kms for last 2-3 months as I'm in UK these days.

I drove to Nanital and Corbett National park from Chandigarh in December last year. The roads were really nice to drive on and I did enjoy pushing the car on the open roads.

Please do post an update at 1,00,000kms with your feedback about the car on its reliability, performance and the overall ownership experience for other Polo owners like myself. Keep muching miles till then. Drive safe.

Thanks for your kind words, I am damn sure your Polo will too cross 100k landmark one day with you. With each passing day my trust and belief in Explorer-1 are growing stronger which resulted in keeping this car for more years than initially planned.

My wish is to cross 200k mark in Explorer-1 :)

Polo update

Explorer-1 got much needed washing and wax polish from FNG yesterday, she is beaming like new now :)

Off topic to this thread purchased a pre-worshiped beat diesel yesterday due to odd even scheme. My Polo, i-10 and wagon-R all bears odd numbered registration plate :(

Wow I seriously hope you do clock that figure. That would be really awesome. I hope I too can munch in some crazy figures with my car too but from the looks of it, don't really see that happening as I'm mostly relocating to UK for at least a couple of years, though will be back in India for a while in July.

And congratulations on your new Chevy. Hehe ToughGuy defying what Delhi's CM had planned. Its a cute looking car surely. How does it drive against the Polo?

Polo road trip update

Back from 3 days Lansdowne road trip with wifey and 5.5 months old son, this road trip becomes unforgettable when Explorer-1 crossed 100K landmark.

It was our 3rd road trip to Lansdowne took following route from Delhi to Lansdowne:

INA-Meerut-Mawana-Bijnor-Najibabad-Kotdwara-Gumkhal-Jaiharikhal-Lansdowne

Started from Delhi at 5:30AM took one hour to clear the Meerut traffic jam, reached hotel Hill top forest palace Jaiharikhal around 12 noon. Advice--Avoid meerut city and take Khatauli route.

On return journey took following route:

Jaiharikhal-Gumkhal-Kotdwara-Najibabad-Bijnor-Miranpur-Khatauli-Meerut bypaas-Ghaziabad-Delhi

Started from Jaiharikhal hotel at 10:00AM and reached Vasundhra Ghaziabad at 3:30PM road was mostly empty, found traffic at Khatauli and then at toll plaza but it was nothing compared to Meerut city traffic which we bypassed.

Road was in fantastic condition all throughout, mostly divider less. Suggest you to take food and loo brake at Cheetal Grand Khatauli or at any road side small dhaba avoid Monty Millions Miranpur which serves pathetic food. Book hotel in advance specially during long weekend and school holidays since Lansdowne have fewer hotels.

Some pics of this road trip:

Thanks GM88, Chevy beat always fascinate me got this base diesel model at throwaway price that too from Maruti true value outlet. Engine is smooth and return good fuel average.

Due to tall boy design car require some attention while maneuvering traffic at speed and steep turns, driving position is good.

Overall value for money.

Polo road trip update

Back from 3 days of Mussoorie road trip with wifey and 6 months old son.

We took following route from Delhi for Mussoorie:

New Delhi-Meerut-Muzaffarnagar-Roorkee-chhutmalpur-Dehradun-Mussoorie

Started from Delhi at 5:30AM with couple of food breaks enroute reached Mussoorie around. Above route is in fantastic condition except few bad patches in Rajaji national park.

On return journey took following route:

Mussoorie-Dehradun-Haridwar-Roorkee-Muzaffarnagar-Meerut bypaas-Ghaziabad-Delhi

Started from Mussoorie hotel at 10:00AM and reached Delhi at 8:00PM road was full of very heavy traffic especially from Dehradun to Roorkee. Due to heavy rush and high temperature we dropped our plan of Haridwar.

Advise: On Sundays avoid Dehradun-Haridwar-Roorkee route.

What's the odo reading now toughguy sirji?

Additionally, I guess with over a lac kms on odo, the upgrade time must be inching closer.
Hi TSIVipul, I am planning to keep this vehicle for another 60K km's or 2 years at least. Don't have money for my next upgrade right now [roll]

Seventh service update:

Explorer-1 crossed 106K KM mark and it was time for his seventh regular service, gave my vehicle to VW Delhi-West Moti Nagar service center. Total cost incurred was Rs. 17617/- they took only 4 hours to service the vehicle.

This time I found the workshop little deserted and they devoted ample time and attention to my vehicle.

Following issues are observed in the vehicle:

1) Slight oil dampness around gearbox which don't require any attention as of now as told by SA

2) Rear brakes require replacement

3) AC blower makes krrr noise on position-1 sometimes, now a days its working fine

4) Hadbrake push button gave up, it comes off on its on

5) Door makes noise which is now fine after service

6) Door handles became quite hard to operate now fine after lubrication

7) Clutch is hard and is pain to drive in bumper to bumper traffic for more than 2-3 hours

8) Wish Gear knob and steering wheel was more soft to touch

Rest vehicle is doing fine and giving good average, Find below the images of part changed, and invoice copy for reference:

Hello ToughGuy,
Really nice to see you have maintained Polo for so long.
i am in the market to purchase a used Polo car; Luckily found one Polo Comfortline (Sept 2013) manufactured model. On the odo it reads only 16000 KMS checked the tyres and engine & the exteriors no noticeable sound coming from engine and tyres look good for another 20K run.
dealer quotes 4.2Lacs. What do you suggest is this a good deal.
Appreciate your suggestion.

Regards,
Srinivas

Hello Srinivas,

First of all sorry for late reply. I am glad you liked my ownership review.

I tried for a exchange of my vehicle with Vento last year but was not happy with the quoted price of less than 3 lacs by showroom people. Though I was getting exhange and loyalty bonus, may be I got 50-60k addition in open market.

Considering the less resale value compared to my Investment I decided to keep this vehicle for 2-3 more years.

Since extended warranty now lapsed will use the services of local garage owned by my uncle near my place.

I will discourage you from buying second hand deisel car unless you are sure about the vehicle, have service record book and please do take service of a trusted and experience mechanic. Please do check the vehicle thoroughly.

Quoted price sounds high to me, bargain hard.
