Re: Ownership Review: Polo 1.2 TDI Comfortline (Diesel)

Hi ToughGuy according to the service advisor of VW informed me at the time of purchase of the vehicle that don't wash Engine bay, that will impact the engine. Is that true?
Yes, same has been explained briefly by Right now correctly in my case they used pressure wash on sides walls and on bonnet insulation. Please avoid direct water jet on engine bay.

lucky that explorer suffered very less damage..any idea of replacing the underbody sheet?
Yes lucky me, underbody hard plastic sheet beneath engine bay will cost you anything around 6-7K in case of replacement, i inquired about this some 6-7 months back during my second claim.

I think I remember reading somewhere that the ECU is housed in the engine bay, somewhere underneath the engine cover or so. Thus, water washing of the engine bay is to be avoided.
Again, the people at the service centre told me that if ever I take my car to a car wash, I should not let the fellows there clean the underbody with pressurized water. I don't remember the reason but they strongly discouraged doing it.

1. Do not use pressure water to wash the engine bay. Ideally wipe with a damp cloth. You can also use soap but make sure you dry the engine bay well.

2. Do not use pressure water to wash the underbody (this is according to the VW A.S.S in Trivandrum, Kerala).

3. Use a clean cloth and ideally wipe in one direction to avoid swirl marks as far as possible. I wipe my car after washing using microfibre towels in only one direction and this has helped keep swirl marks at bay.

is it for every car [thinking] i get my car washed from a small maruti authorised service center. they cover some part of the engine with polythene and they wash the engine bay with pressure water [confused] have got the car washed many times. no problems at all.

Re: Ownership Review: Polo 1.2 TDI Comfortline (Diesel)

For Hyundai cars, I don't think it's a problem. The ECU is placed somewhere else so it doesn't get affected by water. I have washed the engine bay of my Getz and Santro many times with water without covering any part and absolutely no problems.
But Polo. I think I read in some other forum that the ECU is located somewhere in the engine bay where water can easily enter it.

I think this might be happen with the diesel cars only bcoz before Polo I was using Santro and there is no problem with the pressure wash in the engine bay.
