Re: Say Hello to Optimus: A Tuscan Red Mahindra XUV5OO W8 FWD

Hi All,

Apologies for not updating regularly.

Optimus has just returned from its second free service of 10k km done @9950km.
Got the new software upgrade with a 4+1 digit trip meter, faster refresh of MID mileage.

Had a slight sound coming while turning the steering to extreme left now its not there.

Had also asked for wheel balancing since there were vibrations in the steering at speeds of 100+ which did not happen as their machine was boken.

Got a replacement of the front LHS window motor as there was a slight glitch in the operation of the window.

The cleaning of the vehicle was not however upto the mark.

Have got a tank full of Shell diesel @64.45rs. lets see if it increases the mileage. By my calculation it should give at least 1100km for tank full if it is to be worth the extra price.

nice one arya.
my thunderbolt gives mileage of 12.5 to 13... only far shot from 14 or something many people said.
else, how are your mods,headlights working? do they blind other people compared to default ones?

Hi Bhvm,

THe headlight mod is working great. It does not blind the oncoming traffic as I have put HIDs in the projector till now. If I convert the high beams to HID I am pretty sure that the oncoming traffic will go nuts.

@all: The Optimus completes 10000km today.

Congrats buddy for completing the 10000 km mark.[clap]

what was the reason for the noise while turning the steering?

And what's the FE you acquiring so far from your Optimus? Also how much was your 2nd service cost?

Thank You TheG2.

there are a lot many good points about the car and it will need ages to write. will see if I can sum it up in sometime.
Regarding the bad points there arent many, some which I can think of from the top of my head are:

1. No boot space with 6-7 passengers, an issue but solvable.
2. Maintaining the Optimus couple of years down the line will be damn expensive, found out yesterday only that a single tyre from Bridgestone costs around 13k and the same from Michelin costs around 18k.
3. A bit of a fuel guzzler if driven "enthusiastically" or in dead traffic.

Other then these things cant really think of anything significant or even minor.

Congrats buddy for completing the 10000 km mark.[clap]

Thank You singh890.

I forgot to ask the people from SVC but my dad said that it might have to do something to the opening and closing of valves used in the power steegin system.

So far the Optimues has returned an FE of 14.5kmpl with 75% highways and 25% city. Out of the highways 50% were in ghats on Mumbai-Pune, Pune-Goa and upwards of Chandigarh all the way to Manali.

The 2nd service shoudnt have cost me anything but the svc has charged me for:

1. Cotton Rags.
2. Rustoff
3. Tyre rotation

They however changed the Front RHS power window motor under warranty as the function was not smooth.

Might sound bit silly, how did you manage to pull as many freebies? List seems to be as huge as features [:)] BTW, I started my hunt very recently but so far I was not able to get any commitment from the sales folks.. any tricks?? Thanks in advance.
Congratulations on your car, though a bit late.

My case, Tasted XUV, Aria Pure, Ecosport yet to nail down on one.

Hi Suhas,

I went to the showroom at least 4-5 times and every time I went I used to ask for freebies and accessories plus the SA was from my hometown so that might have also helped and he was about to quit the dealership.

So dont exactly know the reason.

btw I must say that your options are pretty widespread from 7 lakhs on road to 15, just out of curiosity I would like to know what you are actually thinking.

Suhas, currently there are lot of freebies and discounts on offer. You can check with your local dealer.

My personal opinion - XUV of the 3 in the list.

@kinshuk.arya - I like your honest response. But somehow the dealers in Chennai are still tight lipped, perhaps I being non committal to them:) Budget was not a lone criteria (off course there is a CAP) for the above list. The reason for looking at Ecosport is just timing of its launch and the buzz it has created. I currently own a Fiesta and frequent follow ups from Ford could be one other reason. My original list much broader to start with but slowly eliminating a few before or after the TD.
=====================
1) XUV 5OO (Test Drove 2 times)
=====================
2) Tata Aria (Test Drove 2 times)
3) Ford Ecosport (dropped after TD)
4) Duster (Dropped prior to TD)
========================
5) Safari Strome (Test Drove 2 times)
========================
Now that I am done with all my TDs, In coming days, I will be closing on either 1) or 5) and place my booking. At the moment, my son who has been maintaining a very clear stand to go for XUV and doesn't want to even consider anything else rest are still divided on these two. I will keep you posted on my selection.

Thank you Suhas.

I think that both of them are good products I didnt go for the Storme the reason being horror stories about Tata Motors ASS and fairyland stories about Mahindra's after the launch of XUV. However, as per my recent findings the Ass for TML also has improved a lot.

The other reasons were I was getting more features and safety in XUV when compared to the Storme. and basically the Storme felt overpriced to me by at least 1-1.5 lakhs.

Re: Say Hello to Optimus: A Tuscan Red Mahindra XUV5OO W8 FWD

Hi all,

Sorry for the delay in updates.

Optimus has covered a niggle free/issue free 12000 km.

The clutch and gearshifts have become smoother after the second service.
Returning a healthy mileage of 15kmpl+ since last fill and an average of 14.5+kmpl since its origin.

Nothing to report as of now except that it has been one of the best experiences so far.

Meanwhile, Optimus gets an Optimus figurine for the dash.

no news is great news.
even I'm waiting for smoother gears, esp second.

any Water entry issues with your hid this monsoon?
I've found a decent place to mount some super LEDs INSIDE the grille (black grille just above number plate ) ,any ideas to to open the grille?

else what do you think of doing hids in fogs? must be electrically simple than low beams. also cheaper to replace if we mess up.

wish you many peaceful miles with your cheetah!

no water entry issue in this monsoon.....

no idea on how to open the grille. If you open do check if there is any place to mount some brackets for auxilary headlamps.

any ideas if we can get the rubber cover behind the low beams as spares?

Perhaps i will visit ASS and ask them to open the Grille for me. And yes, I'll post pics about possible Mounting Locations.I also have to get my CD player checked.

Maybe from Scrapped/Accident Damaged XUV500 that could be lying aroud ASS. They won't sell you these rubbers separately.
