Re: Say Hello to Optimus: A Tuscan Red Mahindra XUV5OO W8 FWD

Hi All,

I am planning to upgrade the High beams of Optimus from 55W halogens to 100W Osram Nightbreakers or Philips Crystal vision.

Any ideas as to whether they are plug and play or will i need ceramic holders for them?

The high wattage bulbs are bound to generate more heat that your existing 55W bulbs. So it would be good idea to go for ceramic holders.

good idea going 4300k rather than 6000k.
however, you can't go hid in high beams!! hids are not instantly switchable and they'll go bad if you force them on-off. plus they take few seconds to warm up, putting you in danger till long range illumination.

High end cars having hid in high beams keep the bulb lit all time, a shield is activated to cutoff the beam pattern.

rather, go all out outlandish and mod your headlamps with dual bi xenon projectors.

HI Bhvm,

the newer ones can be used as the warm up time has reduced considerably and for dipper one does not actually need the entire glow in instant. Besides, when you first turn On the HID it flashes itself.

I want it for long duration usages majorly in highway night drives. I dont use them in the city.
Dont want to screw with the headlamps at this stage may think of it post expiration of warranty.

have you though about external lamps at this stage? you could tie them up with high beams.

yeah i have been thinking about the Hella Black Magic 500 for sometime now but am not able to find any mount points for the brackets. Let me know if you find anything where they can be mounted.
I also thought of getting a roof carrier and mounting the Hellas on the roof but I am not really sure of how useful they will be at that height for driving. and it will also meant highly expensive and out of my budget.

if you open the honeycomb grille, there's a beam running just behind number plate. you can make small flat brackets that Can be extended out from the grille and mount lamps there.

lamps on roof, I have already enquired but running cabling through the cabin and esp up the roof was too difficult. there are air bags in side panels and ac vents in pillars. so I skipped.

Re: Say Hello to Optimus: A Tuscan Red Mahindra XUV5OO W8 FWD

Hi All,

Today I tried opening the front above grill to check he feasibility of installing Auxilliary Headlamps like Hella and Lightforce.

Here are some pics and the process to open it.

1. Pop the hood
2. remove 2 steel bolts and 5 plastic screws from the front. The plastic screws are attacehd to rivets so try not to break them by excesive force or loose them by dropping them in he engine bay.
3. there are 6 clips with which the gill is attached at the bottom end. ou can either pull the grill out from those clips by either appling force from the outside or if you can get your hand in there fom the top that would be better.

Voils your grll is open.

Inside the grill you will see a couple of things like 2 horsn one radiator, and a black coloured beam also know as the cross member. This coss member beam can be used for attaching smalli ioun strips to mount the brackets for the headlamps. the iron strips can come out of the grill above the number plate.

Check the pics.

For more details reply or pm me.

bingo!
that was my imagination. luckily a chap has done the same.
scroll way down For pics-

else, how did you take out the plastic rivets? I tried but felt discouraged as they were on the verge of breaking off!! please post Step by step pic or video. please!!

one option is to keep the lamps on that metal beam only. this way you won't loose the look of your beast. also it will bright hidden from police and thief.

hey,

for plastic rivets just loosen them up like a normal screw some of them woudlnt come up for them just pry them up with the help of a flat screwdriver. they will come out easily.

the Thing is I dont want to drill 4 holes in the cross member. was thinking of some ways to do it without drilling holes in it.

Will post if I find a way. otherwise I will stick to basic HID conversion on all 6 lights.

you don't have to drill. have you seen that link? you can make brackets that in a way sandwiches the cross members by nuts.
