Subscribed your thread today Kinshuk, though late. Bought my XUV around the same time (Feb '13), it would be good to compare on reviews.

I have HIDs in Low beam only. Planning to get Osram nightbreakers or Philips extremevision 55W for the high beams.

This will be used on pitch black highways only.

Re: Optimus: Mahindra XUV 500W8 FWD. 20,000 Kms Completed

Hello Guys,

Nothing much to update from my side.

@bhvm: didnt like the beam throw of the above product and hence no updates for now. would love to see the beam pics of someone using Hellas with HID.

In the meanwhile Optimus is returning a healthy 13.8 kmpl even with 80% city and 20% highway driving. The overall mileage since buying is hovering around 13.3 kmpl and 4.4Rs per km. should come down with the diesel price drop.

I am taking Optimus for a 2 week long road trip from Pune starting this Saturday though, will be going through the following places

1. Kanpur
2. Lucknow
3. Dehradun
4. Mussoorie
5. Harsil or the closest point to Gangotri
6. Alwar
7. Kota
8. Pune

Should span somewhere around 4300-4400kms.

the leds don't have a hotspot or patches like factory high beams. they just wash the whole area, making in smoothly bright.

good luck about the trip. any preventive measures?

I met an xuv 2012 owner and SAME clutch failure as mine. definitely a known issue but Mahindra keeps on declining. I also have pics of failed part that I'll put On my thread.

No preventive measures as such. just taking the books provided by Mahindra with the list and phone numbers of dealers.

I guess having hot spots are better as driving lights rather than flooding the entire thing, but dont really know.

Would like to experiment with h7(we have H7 only right in high beam?) 40W LED bulbs in the high beam casing. will have to get them imported from aliexpress.com again which will take some time.

And are you aware of the lumen rating of the Factory high beam bulbs?

I have started to Like the clean,Shadowless Glow of LED somehow.
I just came back from a 600km Run with Thunderbolt. The Low beam bulb fused. Had to drive only on Fogs and LEDs. Otherwise OK.

The Reflector works on Point sources (Filament) To gather the light and throw it forward. Any significant Change in Light source (Halogen>LED) will change the focus and you'll get glare but less output.

Factory High beams are 1000 LM per bulb.

Very Nice thread. I just booked a XUV 5oo w8 today without selecting a colour. I am very much confused in the interior shades. Black or beige.
Tuscan Red has the black and burgundy themed interiors. Can you please post some super quality pics of the interiors of Optimus?
TIA

Hi kinshuk.arya,
Just joined and went through all of your comments of ownership experience. Quite happy with all the positive responses you mentioned about the vehicle. Even, I am planning to go for XUV5OO W6, however I am quite concerned with feedback on niggles and issues with this vehicle. This thread however, is quite convincing on going ahead and getting the cheetah.
I am too from Pune and will really help if I could get some guidance on finalizing and purchase process for XUV5OO. Not, sure how to send individual messages to members in this forum being new here.
Thank you,
Deepak

Hello getmikeboy,
I selected the exterior colour and the interior came with it. Beige colour looks good and more airy than the dark interior but are harder to maintain and keep clean.

As per pics you can find the interior pics everywhere on the internet and better still have a look at them in person.

Hello NFS2,

judging by your handle I am guessing you like computer games as well and should be around 27-28 years old? Am I right?

You can send private messages only after 10 posts on the forum. meanwhile you can ask your queries here.

@All:

Returned from the trip all hale, hearty and exhausted. Covered a total distance of 4586kms in 15 days.

Didnt face any issue except for the HeadUnit restarting a couple of times during the journey. Other than that even the FWD Cheetah is capable of wading through 8- of snow without any issues while going uphill. Mind you it was fresh snow and not the hardened kind. and we had a Bolero with chains on bald tyres going ahead of us clearing the snow. However, in one place where the Bolero got stuck Cheetah went on without any issues.

Optimus also completed 2 years in my life yesterday, covering 32000km in the span. Mileage of 14kmpl over the 32000km and negligible maintainance cost except for regular servicing.

@Mods: Can you please change the name of the thread to "Optimus: XUV 500W8FWD, 32000km"

Thanks and Regards,
Kinshuk

P.S: Pics and videos coming up in short time.

[:)] HA HA that was quite interesting analysis by you. I would be happy to keep that age guess which would make me 5-4 yrs yonger than I am. I encountered NFS and another 1 or 2 other computer games which I hardly played ever again. I couldn't remember any better user name but this which popped in my mind instantaneously while registration. I agree it looks little immature than I am in reality. [:)]
Anyways, coming to the point, currently I own Swift VDI, 8 yrs old, 90K kms done. I am planning to upgrade as now family size has grown and so does the need for space. After a lot of research and waiving off Ertiga, Mobilo, New City (its odd man out), Duster, Innova, Safari Storme I have made up my mind for XUV 500 W6 although the niggle and issues reported by users concerns me. I could overcome these concerns because of articles from you and many other ownership reviews.
After going through your reviews, I was quite happy to see the awesome service response you got and how you maintained the vehicle. I am from Pune only and checking with all the 3 dealers Silver Jublee, Kundan and Sayadhri. My queries are:
1. From which dealer you got your vehicle. Can you recommend the best out of 3.
2. From which service center you get your vehicle serviced? as you got a good response.
3. Any specific suggestion before finalizing, purchasing and getting delivery of vehicle.
4. I went for TD for XUV 500 W8 from Silver Jublee, the vehicle ODO shows 26K km. My family seated in middle row seats complained about jerks felt when vehicle went through speed breakers. So I am little concerned about the suspensions (which "actually" holded me bying decision for couple of days). But to mention, I liked the XUV500 overall.
5. Should I get accessories from dealer itself or there good shops in Pune which will have lot of varieties plus best pricing than what mahindra gives?
Any other tips/suggestions will really help me a lot before I get the beast.
Thanks,
Deepak

Hi Deepak,

I am a big fan of computer games currently own an Xbox one. and I am close to 30. [lol]

I bought the vehicle from Kundan motors as at that time only Kundan motors was willing to give me free stuff, rest of them had totally denied of anything.

The service is OK not great not bad. one of their Service advisors is really good the other one not so. (My experience and experience of a friend).

The only thing is their service center is close to my hous I live near Dange Chowk.

If XUV meets your demands then go for it minor bumps and jerks can be felt in all the vehicles in this range. but overall my family is quite happy with the comfort level.

Accessory buying depends on what accessory, I normally prefer to get it done from the dealer itself and dont have much extra things in my vehicle except for the LED bar which I installed myself but that is not a clean job.

The reverse Cam and side body mouldings I got from the service center itself.

Just one suggestion get the W8 FWD variant instead of the W6. Reason being higher safety features in the W8 plus a colour Head unit with navigation and alloy wheels for 1.5 lakh rs extra.

The rest of the things one can get from after market but Safety features cannot be bought.

Regards,
Kinshuk
