Re: Optimus: Mahindra XUV 500W8 FWD. 20,000 Kms Completed

HI All,

Sorry for my absence from this thread but there was nothing to update.
As of now I am looking for a Roof Carrier. My requirements are luggage of 4-5 people for 6-7 days. and should be completely removable.

Any ideas?

Are you considering the conventional ones or box type(something like a thule or wannabe thule) ?

Something Cheap, sturdy and should be able to gobble tp luggage and not just show.

Dont have any affinity to the box type ones, but can look into them. by the way what is the starting price for Thule range and are they available in Pune?

Thule would be the best and most expensive as well, depending on what you go for could be anything between 20k-80k

Boxes & Baskets - Thule

I recently saw a Thule rear mounted cargo on indian roads, i quite liked that idea, but prices needs checking - do give that a thought, thule i guess is available at bangalore only methods automotive. The problem with the roof box as i see it is you cant use just any bag, you will have to plan that part too, conventional carriers can take any bag type/size but need weather proofing and fastening up.

Other options you have are the likes of ctrack, tropicool and ajanta. Quality will vary depending on the product and some products are really bad and best avoided.

However check out tropicool in pune:-

Storage

Also ctrack options

I dont want to buy an insurance for my Thule as well. [;)]

The Ctrack ones are looking good, any ideas on the pricing? and are they removable? because mine would be used only a once or twice in an year.

Personally i wont buy the thule as well, every one in my family packs his own bag - we all know how this works with the ladies and the size of the bag will outsize your suv leave alone a thule box.

ctrack my guess is 10k range, drop them a mail, they are usually quick to respond, take a quote for oem mahindra carrier too, the one i have in my xuv, its 3 years and it has lasted well though i am sure oem one would be more expensive than ctrack.

ctrack or other conventional carriers have bolting arrangements, it will directly bolt to the available slots in your xuv roof, you need a spanner if you want to remove. Its not a hard task but will take say 30 minutes.

Edit :- Off-topic question whats the life of a HID kit in your experience ? I know it might vary with quality, but generally.

most probably I will be getting either the Ctrack X300A or the OEM one.

My last HID in the bike is working from the past 4 years, and the one in the car without issue from the past one year.

Any ideas how much max power load can the XUVs battey support? Will it be able to support a 500W load? If Yes for how long? and if no what can be done in the car to support that?

what are you trying to do?
was thinking of hooking up my xbox to the car might be useful in long rides. a couple of screens on the front seat headrests, and the console under the seat near the ac vent.

Assuming a 220 amp alternator it's almost 2700 watts. deducting even 1000w for vehicle, there's a lot to spare.

however drawing 500w (almost 40 a ) is not viable from cigerrate socket (they're limited to 10a). with some heavy gague and relays you should be good to go.

else, try skipping xbox and simply use Laptops for wifi multiplayer.

Hi CarLoverJosh, no signs of fading at all.

1. In city I have seen Mileages ranging from 9-13kmpl with AC on.
2. Service Intervals are 5000, 10000, 20000 and so and so forth. Every major service will cost close to 6-7k and minor ones will cost 2-3k.
3. No maintenance cost till now for me. May be other members with more running can shed some light on it.
4. Mahindra's service network is quite widespread and I dont think you will find an issue in Hyderabad.
