Re: Say Hello to Optimus: A Tuscan Red Mahindra XUV5OO W8 FWD

Long Time no see.

Sorry for the break in updates but the truth is there wasnt anything to update. Optimus is running hale and hearty without any kind of niggles or issues.

Optimus has just returned from a Pune-Goa-Pune trip covering close to 1050km both ways.
With this 1000km run Optimus has crossed the 19k km mark.

Overall trip was really good flawless performance. However I do think that Mahindra should improve the brakes on the Cheetah.

The best part of the drive was at one point of time after crossing Belgaum while coming towards Pune there is a long downhill stretch of perfect road without any kind of traffic what so ever and visibility good upto a couple of kilometers. Did some high speed testing there and the Optimus crossed the 180kmph mark (not more than 2-3 seconds north of the mark and then back to cruising speed of 110kmph). It wanted to go further but since there was a vehicle on the road I decided against it. (Mods Please remove the figures if need be)

Nothing extra to report apart from the positives already talked about a lot in this thread and other ownership threads.

AC however needs to work extra in this summer heat.

Didnt get the time to take pics of Optimus much as I was too busy enjoying the drive, but will post a couple of pics shortly.

Gurus kindly solicit any advice that needs to be taken for the 20k km service and/or any other points I need to take care of.

Will be utilizing the Car Spa voucher sent by Mahindra during this service.
Nice update bro.

And things that were done in 20K service were:
Oil Filter:
Fuel Filter:
Air Filter:
Engine Oil:
EngineCare XUV 500:
Few Consumable:
Wheel Alignment:

And i got the tire rotation as well and i would recommend the same to you.

Just an update I forgot about in the last post.

The Optimus returned an impressive mileage of 14.8kmpl (actual) with 80%AC and cruising speeds of 100-110+kmph.

Optimus returns from its 20000km service. Things done and replaced are:

1. Air filter
2. Fuel Filter
3. Oil Filter
4. Engine Oil
5. Gear Oil
6. Tyre Rotation
7. Anti Rust on some axle parts from where there was a sound coming. They did however charge me 200rs for labor for specifically this portion

Total of 6581 was paid.

After the service there was a noticeable reduction in Engine Sound, gearshifts were smoother, and the sound was considerably reduced.
the car was quite clean and shiny.

They however broke one of the arms of the V from the XUV sticker when I raised the issue the RM promptly gave me a separate sticker for the same.

currently completed 20500km.

Also met a fellow whose XUV had completed 122000km without any mechanical or electical failure.
He did have an interesting observation regarding Goodyears which they have put after 60000km on bridgestone and were worn out after just 30000km. Anybody else share the same observation regarding Goodyears?

@Mods: Can you please change the name of the thread to "Optimus: XUV 500W8 FWD, 20000km completed"?

Long time no updates, the thing is there aint anything to update.
Optimus is going on happy and hearty. Completed 21000km.

No planned upgrades as of now. Responsibilities taking their toll on my salary.

its just say as they say

When you have the Time and Energy, you dont have the Money,
When you have the Money and Energy, you dont have the Time,
When you have the Money and Time, you dont have the Energy.

I just hope I still have Energy when I have the Money and Time.

Great numbers your car has done there, so how's the maintenance costs going on?

Is there a way to turn Off the Follow me Home feature?
You have to refer to manual for this function.

Thank You Vishwas.

Maintenance costs are next to nill other than the regla servicing charges. Had spend around 500rs once for replacing the stab bushes in the front.

Feature functionality I know, I dont think there is any mention on how to Turn it Off, but will give it another look.

Re: Optimus: Mahindra XUV 500W8 FWD. 20,000 Kms Completed

Went to a small 120km trip this weekend. A small g2g with family under some waterfalls.

I amnaged to get the Optimus stuck in a small off roading endeavour, got out of it after some brain storming.
The issue was that rear tyre got stuck between 2 mounds of mud and the front tyres were on some slush with stone underneath on an upward slope. Got it out by reversing and changing the direction after removing the rear mud mound behind the tyre.
Enjoy the pics of the same.

Just a pointer for the owners, Do not over estimate the strength of 2-3 inches of mud which has fully absorbed water.

that was a great trip kinshuk. however I feel xuv has A disadvantage for. offroading due to front wheel drive and very heavy weight.

something like a Scorpio wouldn't have stuck there.

Nice escapade Kinshuk, the tyres are the biggest culprit usually, especially so in xuv, with those treads you dont stand a chance in 1/2 inch of slush especially if its a slight incline.

Scorpio is heavier than xuv - its actually the tyres which make the biggest difference offroading - front wheel and rear wheel drive largely influences vehicle control. if its clayish mud/slush, XUV doesnt stand a chance ! and in offroading pictures can never ever help you figure if any other vehicle can pass through it or not - it might look simple, but end up difficult or even vice versa. The best mantra is explore with caution and with experience you will keep on learning !

IR I am running the stock JKs right now, and have no plan of changing them before their life; but just to get an idea what kind of tyres are better suited in conditions where the majority run will be proper tar road and a minor portion around 10-15% on slight off road conditions?

and also tell me the link where I can learn how to upload images directly to the post instead of hot linking.

I have been using AT tyres (Yokohoma geolander ATs) on all my my

SUVs and never had a problem with them

I usually upgrade to AT tyres once the factory ones wear out.

However that does not help heavy weight and Front wheel drive.

How are the geolander ATs holding up in your vehicles?
I was thinking of upgrading my JKs to 265 section Geolander ATs, it might screw with the speedometer and mileage but I think ride would be better with improved grip.
and since they are like 15k per piece I think I will have to start planning for them now only.

they're doing well.. I won't suggest messing with size as it could affect advanced functions like tpms, rollover mitigation, abs and stability control.
