I just dont get it.
1000 bookings and you call it a great response.
Even the Beetle got 800 bookings.

Beetle is a well known car from VW but Micra is a new car from a relatively not so popular brand called Nissan in India! Infact they accepted themselves that they did not expect such amount of bookings and has come as a surprise!

Beetle is in a different price range even though its just another small hatch in the same segment. Considering the size and features of Beetle for that price; I think 800 is a good number. However, 1000 pre-orders in country like India is not that attractive.

Yes that was my point exactly , 1000 bookings based on just looks looks too much and a great response for this car! And lets not forget that this is a Nissan who has not got many dealers and not established A.S.S in India.

i have to agree with you. 1000 bookings without a td is a really good figure. But they are working on the service aspect.

Let us also not forget that that a great deal of people will cancel their bookings after they test drive the car.

Most buyers in India still buys cars without test drive. There are other factors to decide.
Yes Micra is new to India, but Nissan has good brand value. Yes network is an issue, but I don't think there is any major issue with their service. So if you have Nissan showroom in your city (I know very few), and you believe in brand name, why not?

For the typical indian hatch buyer, 2 things are most important.
1: Fuel efficiency
2: After sales service

Nissan doesnt have the number 2 and the number 1 is still not clear.

A recipe for disaster.

If this is true, Figo would not be selling in such large numbers.

These are 2 important factors but there are so many others, like Price, reputation, history (read fiat) etc.
