One of the reader of IAB has spotted Nissan Micra in Delhi.
which will be manufactured in India next year, probably with three engine options. We’re not sure if this is the exact same car that will come out of India, but it certainly has some differences to the Euro spec model.
For starters there are no dual fog lamps on the grill. The bumper appears to have been toned down and the car’s ground clearance, after some close observation, appears to have been raised a little higher.

Yeah.
This quite resembles to the A-Star but personally speaking, I didn't liked the looks of it. It looks real ugly to me, Especially front.

All I heard was Nissan making India their small car hub and venturing beyond Micra in the small car segment. One more Japanese manufacturer set to take on the small car market.

Interesting fact though is, Asian car manufacturers seem to crack the code of selling small cars in India.
On the other hand, Fiat's engines are good, sales of small car's seem to be not that great. All hopes on Punto and a hopeful Bravo.
Chevrolet's car's seem to be lagging in power. Spark tried to revive the conditions but again market share not that huge.
Skoda's Fabia seemed to be a winner but with niggling issues of engine stalling, replica spares and pathetic A.S.S seems to be eating the pie of Fabia. VW planning to launch Polo, they need to buckle up on the A.S.S if at all they intended to stay.

Suzuki, Hyundai, Honda all have winners on their hands and fighting out for market shares.

there is some confusion

The A-Star is used only to manufacture the Nissan PIXO and not the Micra. Maruti Suzuki manufactures the Nissan PIXO in India as a contract manufacturer and exports it to Europe.

The car you see here is the Nissan Micra and is no way associated to the A-Star or the PIXO. This car will be manufactured next year at Nissan's own plant here in Chennai, which is presently in the last stages of construction.

You are right shrawan but we didn't meant that Micra is associated with A-Star/Pixo. All we said is that both the models, A-star and Micra quite resemble to each other and the most common thing between them is that they both are ugly. [pig]

Nissan unveils next gen Micra for India

Nissan has officially unveiled its sketches of the its new global compact car or the next generation Micra which goes on sale in mid-2010. India will be the global production base for the new Micra which will be manufactured in Nissan India's Chennai plant from May 2010 and exported to 150 countries. Mr. Kiminobu Tokuyama, Managing Director and CEO, Nissan Motor India Private Ltd (NMIPL) said, “It is a proud moment for us today as we reveal the first sketch of our global compact car. We are confident that the car which will be manufactured locally in Chennai will delight the discerning Indian customers. We are serious and committed in our plans for India and are all excited as we gear up for the start of production in May 2010.”

The new Micra is expected with both diesel and petrol engine options. According to industry sources a lightweight and highly fuel-efficient 1.2 litre, three-cylinder petrol motor that promises class-leading fuel efficiency will make its debut in the Micra. Diesel power will be supplied by the familiar Renault 1.5 (K9) 65bhp motor that powers the Logan. However, for the Micra there is likely to be an increase in power.

The new Micra will compete head-on with the class-leading Maruti Swift and hence Nissan is keen to price its new hatchback competitively to gain market share. A sub Rs 4-lakh price is expected for the base model.

A saloon version of the Micra is also expected in the future and is expected to compete directly with the Swift Dzire.

Nissan’s marketing arm, Hover Automotive International is in the process of setting up new dealerships all over the country in preparation for the Micra.
