Took my first long trip on the car this morning. Mumbai to Surat. I work here hence will be doing this often. Since it is the first drive on the highway, wanted to pen down few points on the experience.
Started at 5:30 am from Mumbai and reached Surat at 9:45 with a half an hour break in between. In short, covered the distance of 285 Kms in 3:45 hrs. The mile munching capability of Scorpio is quite amazing. I have not driven the car above 100 during the entire trip. Wanted to ensure that I limit to max 100 at least for the first 2000 kms to smooth en the engine as much as possible.

Ride and handling

The first 30 kms from home to highway through the western express highway has lot of pot holes and uneven surfaces. At 90 kms per hr the car is steady on these rough patches how ever beyond that you can feel the steering shaking and not very confident inspiring. if the roads are empty you could speed beyond 90 but in case if you are overtaking or driving parallel to another vehicle then these uneven surfaces could be tricky as you can slightly loose control of the steering.
Enter the highway beyond Kashmira, it was a breeze! The vehicle just glides effortlessly. The bouncy ride has almost disappeared. I cornered at 100 kms on a couple of occasions and believe me it was smooth and no body roll at all. But scenario could change if the tarmac is not smooth enough.
From inside
Ultra silent cabin! You need to experience this.
The higher gears seem smoother
Navigation works well. The lady talks too much though! I need to see if I can control her[glasses]
The steering control gets pressed at time by mistake specially when you take turns or reverse. It needs some getting used to!
Lot of attention from other vehicles and road side! I think because few reds on the road so far![lol]
Did try the Cruise control as well. Will write about the same soon.

Evaluated both the Android Mobile Apps for Scorpio today. The first one is called
Scorpio BlueSense App and the other is called Scorpio

Scorpio BlueSense connects via the Bluetooth to the ECS and displays all information related to the car on your mobile. The other app is useful to understand every warning light on the Dashboard as it gives a detailed explanation of each of the warning lights.
Scorpio Blue Sense
  • The Bluesense app is designed for the S10 version as it is compatible with the ECS in S10.
  • While the ignition is off the app works in Accessory mode helping you to remotely control the Music options. You can switch between music sources, change songs, increase volume etc. Pretty much everything you do with the ECS can be done from the app as well. In short it works as a remote. Imagine if you having an outdoor party with the music being played from your car. You can move around with this app and control your music.
  • Once you Switch the power of the car on, the app displays all other vehicle information as well like tiretronics, Warnings, Climate Control options etc.
  • The app connects to the ECS using Bluetooth.
  • The app has an option to store the vehicle information as well like the VIN number, registration details etc
Over all the app works great.
One of the missing feature of the ECS is that Bluetooth connectivity with phone remains on only when the ECS is on. It doesn't have a standby mode like the ECS in Ford cars where the system can be off, how ever Bluetooth remain connected for phone calls. This way you will receive calls via Bluetooth even if the car audio is off.

Will write about the Mahindra App in the next session.

The Scorpio App helps you keep record of your vehicle details and activities.
  • Displays the Dashboard Waring light. Touch the light to know what the error means. Neat feature specially if you happened to see that while you are on the road. No need to pull out that manual from the glove box and browse though pages.
  • Keep fuel record. Quickly fill the fuel details while refilling. The app then automatically calculates the mileage of your vehicle.
  • Service Records. Cost, service details, type of service etc
  • An option to set reminders specific to the vehicle. PUC, insurance etc can fit here.
  • Call, email Mahindra service team directly from the app. You need to first go to the settings and configure your vehicle details and your service managers contact details first.

HI,
I believe the major changes in the car was the Multi information display. Its has lot of information about the car which the old one doesn't even have 25% of what new one have.

These features are extracted from XUV, including the steering wheel. Mahindra is facilitating these features without any cost overhead. [clap] Consider 28Lakhs Toyota Fortuner (on-road price), what features they are offering?
Agree Mathew. Also these features are been tried and tested and improved upon in XUV. So they work almost flawless now.

I might be wrong here. But I have this feeling of a broader car when i drive the new Scorpio compared to the old one. I think the inward bonnet and the integrated scoop gives this feeling of a broader car.
I have at least few people around the car always since yesterday while its parked in the office parking lot!

None taken[:D]
But I totally agree with you regarding the color choice, that is the reason I primarily went for Black, it looked Devilish especially with those LED's ON. But the unnecessary delay proposed by the dealer and my weakness towards White caught up with me.
Also I so agree with you on every point noted down on your long drive.
I just completed 500 kms today!
So far she rode and handled exceptionally good, had to do Panic breaking few times (thanks to the expert female driver 2 times), Loved the hold, that is indeed Confidence inspiring.
Will definitely take her for a highway spin this weekend.

Got a GPS tracker installed on the Vehicle as you all know Scorpio gets stolen easly. teh solution is Matchpointgps. Matchpoint GPS – USA | Track Your Assets Anywhere Anytime
It came along with the car loan.Rs.250 got added to the loan emi for the 5 year period. Beyond that it is going to be around Rs.300 per month.
The system tracks the vehicle and also send email,SMS alerts. Comprehensive reporting available on the web.
Multiple mobile numbers can be configured to receive alerts.
Alert is triggered in case some one removes the wiring connected to the device. I did ask them what if the power cable is removed first. The answer was that the alerting box has inbuilt power hence it can do the basic functions like sending alerts even when the wires are removed.
The mobile app as well displays the vehicle position details and can be used for online tracking while the vehicle is in motion.

That is a nice product. Is the Mahindra Accessories fixed it or other?
Any wiring change/modifications needed?

How is the vehicle response on Highways?
Mathew,
The GPS tracker was fitted by an agent of HDFC bank. No wiring modification was done.
The car is fantastic on highways. U need to hardly shift down from 5th gear to over take etc. This weekend again drove back to Mumbai and returned this morning to Surat. I am loving it on the highway. Best to cruise at 100-120. I have not touched 120 since i plan to do a proper running in for the engine.
Completed 1200 kms in a week. I feel the engine will be smoothed post first service and then I will check it at higher speeds.
