Time to renew Insurance of my Ford Figo TDCI Titanium for 3rd year. Last Year I Paid Rs. 16660/- to Royal Sundaram for IDV of Rs. 550080/-. No claim from Last two years at all. How much should be the premium for 3rd Year?

Yeah, it was a broken spring cable in the gear lever assembly gone broke! Thankfully, the whole gear lever assembly, costing about 2900 INR was replaced under warranty free of cost. Would recommend anyone living in and around Chandigarh Saluja service centre, they are really good people. I would like to add that extended warranties do help in these situations. I am planning to further extend my warranty after the 3 year time as well. Got a quote of INR 10,500 for the same for one year for a distance upto 1 lakh kms
Glad to know that it was replaced under warranty. However it is alarming that it got broken so early. What if it was during a vacation trip to some remote places where Ford's presence is less?
On a side note, post my 20k service, the gear shifter was making a weird noise when we shift to 2nd or 4th gears. It was like flapping of rexine covering the shifter.
And one fine day the whole rexine including the plastic base came off! It looks like they didn't put it back properly after replacing the cabin filter. I was able to fit it back though it is still not properly bed in. I managed to take a picture of the same.

The shifting mechanism inside felt cheap to me, with all those black/white plasticky levers. They looked like bigger version of levers we see inside of old tape recorders :). Haven't seen how it looks in other cars, so can't really comment further.

Of course it looks cheap inside most gearboxes, they do this to save weight and to ease the friction, I have seen inside of Maruti Alto and Mitsubishi Cedia gearbox, both of different league but yet had almost similarl internals and looked similar inside.

Last day, I got to drive my colleague's Verna 1.6 diesel for 100 kms. It is around 2 years old and has close to 50k on the odo. I just thought I will post a short comparison with my Figo :).
I know the cars are from different segments and you can buy two Figo ambiente diesels at the cost of a Verna :D.
- The 1.6 engine is simply superb on the refinement part. The diesel clatter and thrum are superbly controlled when compared to Figo's 1.5
- The car moves from standstill smoothly, no accelerator input required. Figo can also do that, but it is not as seamless as in the Verna
- The engine has loads of power but nothing more exciting than the Figo.
- Engine lugs at around 1250RPM, there is an audible thrum at this point forcing you to downshift. Figo wins here.
- You cannot shift to 5th as early as in the Figo (50kmph)
- Advantage of 6th gear - didn't try it though
- No lane change functionality with the blinkers
- The clutch is more springy than the Figo's, didn't like it
- The gearshifts are smooth, like in a Maruti
- The ride quality is way better (ofcourse, it is a full length sedan)
- Brakes appeared to be on par with Figo's, if not better
- And the worst part is - the steering, it is very light with an artificial centering action. Figo's steering is in a different league in comparison.

P.S: These are just my personal views and I do not want to hurt any Verna owners :)

Do you have any images of the broken gear box assembly ?
And did the dealer say its an one off even or have they seen this issue before on other Fords ?
Because spring cables or control cable dont break that easily
Dont know which specific part they are mentioning to here,

Anyway good to hear its resolved and of course extended warranty is a MUST in India for all car brands except maybe Toyota
Sorry, couldn't click any pics, the whole process got over within 15 minutes, whilst I was busy interacting with the service advisor. I believe it's a one off incident only, or else we would have heard it beforehand somewhere as figo was launched in 2015. I think mine was a case of bad luck with quality control in my car. The part changed is billed under the name LEVER TRANS CONTROL. Rest of the car is performing flawlessly, except for the minor rattles as with all of us!

This broken spring in gear seems to be a recurring problem in Figo. Mine also broke up at around 29000 kms. got it replaced on 30,000 service. another gentleman who was having his figo serviced with me had also had this problem. Gearbox is the one part that takes out half of the driving fun in this hatch. my cousin's 8 year old swift has a far better gearbox than figo.

Also would suggest you guys to use some rat repellent esp during winters. the wipers were not working and one headlight was out as rats had chewed up quite a bit of wiring. luckily car was still under warranty as rep said that complete new wire set is worth 27K [surprise] lots of these repellents available online. if there is any other solution for this rat problem, please advise.

also tyre replacement is due. am still thinking about Michelin xm 2s (185/65/14r) but if you guys have any other recommendation, would be highly appreciated.

I drive Verna 1.6 CRDi as well as Ecosport 1.5TDCi of my friends usually. So what i know is,Hyundais have generally a strong turbo tuned for performance ,while Ford has tuned it in optimum .
That's why one always feel,Verna to be effortlessly creeping without zero throttle input.

The Hyundai also has a drawback with this ,as its Turbos are known to konk off earlier when compared to others always.

But the creeping from standstill happens way before turbo spools in, probably in 800-1000 RPM range. May the higher torque (260Nm vs 215Nm) favors the Hyundai here.

Big displacement engines with small turbos have very good low end response, on the other hand small displacement engines with big turbos have super high turbo lag, eg Suzuki 1.3DDis engines

The Ecosport and Verna have well tuned diesel engines, the Fords is an SOHC unit so less HP generated per injection cycle and less control over cams , but less cam means less weight , the biggest disadvantage of SOHC diesel engines as far as I know is that they wont rev well compared to DOHC diesels
The Verna revs faster and reaches turbo zone easier compared to the Fords TDCi

Don't know about the exterior but the touchscreen looks really good. They should also add reverse camera and sensors.
The news also say they will use a different gearbox which is a welcome move.
My car's latest odo reading.

New Manual, and new 1.2l Dragon engine and new Automatic gear box, I guess the new TC AT will be a derivative for 6f series of transmission that Ford has used in new Ecosport, but for diesel I feel Amt will be used.

I am not a fan of AMT but this could give Ford some numbers.
