Re: New Ford Figo Trend (Diesel) | 3rd Service Update | 20,000 Kms: Ownership Review

Guys need help...

My Diesel Figo Titanium has almost run 18k in 17 months of ownership. It was all well till yesterday evening. I noticed that when I put my car in 4th gear and cross the 2000rpm mark the car starts to jump and choke. At that time, pressing the accelerator doesn't generate any power and the only solution to this situation is to either upshift or downshift. The car also emits a lot of smoke during the same time. [frustration]

I have visited the service centre today and during the test run the same problem occured. The Service Centre has asked me to keep the car and told me that it might take 2-3days for resolution. They also told me that the issue might be with wiring or turbo. But they need to check it thoroughly to come to any conclusion.

Did any one of you face any similar issue in your ownership of Figo or any other car? Do you know what can cause this issue?[confused]

Re: New Ford Figo Trend (Diesel) | 3rd Service Update | 20,000 Kms: Ownership Review

Car odo now at 14k.
Had been to Kairali Ford today Trivandrum to check regarding the tire noise and headlight reflector issue.
Few kms post the 10k service the road noise had increased considerably and there is some humming noise which is clearly audible around 40-50 km/h.
Also, a small portion of the headlight reflector just above the bulb has started to fade off. I had mentioned the same in this post - http://www.theautomotiveindia.com/forums/ownership-reviews/23650-new-ford-figo-trend-diesel-3rd-service-update-20-000-kms-ownership-review-136.html#post530225

At the service centre, the SA asked a mechanic to go for a test drive and he too confirmed the noise.
They took measurements of the tire tread and took photos of it. Also, they took photos of the reflector. They said they will send the details to Ford and wait for their response.
While SA had no clue on the reflector issue, he said that I may get a positive response from Ford on the tires. Hopefully I would get the tires repalced under warranty, though I may need to bear a percentage of the cost of new tires.
Also, I got the door rubber bushes replaced for free.

Note: SA said that the headlights of most of the Figo/Aspires that have come for service today is having this issue. Looks like this is a quality issue.

Friends,

Headlight seems to too mediocre. I return home from work close to midnight and the headlight doesn't inspire any confidence. Checked with SA who told that they can't upgrade as what is given is as per Ford

much good on Aspire.
This modification solved the issue to an extent([:D]),in my case. What makes it a desirable option is that it was done without voiding warranty(except for battery), and has no extraordinarily heavy load,(just 330 watts,55wX6). I patiently made sure that they properly made parallel wiring from battery.
I didnt allow them to fiddle around wiring and got separate switches installed and connected to to relay from dashboard.
I was forced to opt for this after having been out-muscled by 90/100w headlamps twice. Once, I scraped hard the under body which gave me and all the onlookers a sparkling scare. The next instance was when I was dazzled by two AL dosts on 90/100s overtaking each other in a dual carriage way, and collided with a cyclist on a dark road. He miraculously survived.

Now Im Unchallenged

The first year of purchase saw a lot of family function, so only had to put 2k per month. Now there is a let up in the monthly mileage momentum. I have put just 4k kms in the first 5 months! ODO 26500 KM

Went in for my second service today (10000km). The Estimate as per Ford is around Rs.1500/-. The SA gave me quote for Rs. 2900/- . Some of the issues pointed by me was Slight left pull (very small pull unlike some other owners complained her can be attributed to balancing issues), Petrol smell in the cabin after tanking up and squeaks and squeals from the doors. The final bill came to Rs. 2000/- including Wheel Alignment and Balancing and Rotation. I had earlier done Wheel outside and price wise it was same doing it from outside and inside.Being a small place the expertise may or may not be up to mark outside so decided to get it done in the dealership itself. The best thing I like about this service was that a test driver was sent before and after service for a test drive. All four door cards have been adjusted and squeaks are gone. Petrol smell doesn't seem to come in after tanking up. The left pull is now gone. The car feels smoother than before.

Sirji I don't think it is the ideal place to fit those auxiliary lights as it can affect the cooling system of engine.
I am not really sure about it, experts can check on it and correct me.

The issue is not resolved yet.
I am asked to visit the Service center tomorrow. I will be getting new tires from Ford. They told that I might need to bear a certain percentile of the cost as the car has done around 15k kms.

Are you using all the lights when you drive in the roads ? It will block the visibility of the drivers who come in the opposite side. Once I came across a Fortuner near Tirunelveli. He was using more than 10 lights and around 4 lights in the roof in the night time. So just think how the drivers would have spoken of him [frustration]

@satson: I got my tires replaced at 12000kms ODO for free of cost. Write to ford and try hard you may also get it replaced at no additional cost. Good luck.[:)]

You're lucky then [;)]
Yesterday, I got my tires changed (4 tires) to Michelin Energy XM2 and had to pay Rs.5860 (after discount of Rs.1000 from the dealer) in total. I had never used the spare wheel, so I thought I will leave as it is. I had other options like Apollo and Firestone for which I had to pay Rs.3860. I felt like difference of 2k is okay for Michelins.
As per the service center, this is how it works now:
If a customer complaints of the noise, or the SA feels like there is noise during a test drive, they can take the measurements of the tire and inform Ford. Ford will approve tire replacement in majority of the cases. If the car has run less than 10k kms, tires will be replaced free of cost. If more than 10k, then the maximum Ford will approve is around Rs.14000. Rest of the amount has to be borne by the owner.
I am not sure to what extent this is true.

I have driven the car for 15 kms only post the tire change. The difference is too obvious. The humming noise is gone and the tire/road noise has reduced to a great extent in general!

And, they did not give a convincing reply on the headlights issue yet. They said, they will check with other branches and update.

A pic of the new tire. On a side note, you may notice reflection of my friend's swift here - speaks of Figo's paint quality.
