Got a strange query ...

Went to one of the shops to get the engine oil for top up. While discussing in general about oils with the shopkeeper he said that a few days back one guy bought 3 ltr. diesel engine oil and put it into the diesel tank of Tata safari. The Safari guy said that he's going for a long tour and somebody told him to mix engine oil with diesel.

This certainly sounds absurd and even I don't want to believe it but is anybody aware if such things are done and really required??? I don't know much about combustion, but will diesel get ignited if engine oil is mixed with it. And what benefit (or otherwise) would we get in such a case?

@mastersquall - no snaps buddy yet!!!

Some of them say that it adds to the lubricity of Diesel, some of them have noticed increased smoothness, some of them have noticed increased mileage. Truckers and bus drivers follow this regularly. I don't know how true is this, but it might surely add more oily residue to the fuel lines, diesel filter and shall ruin the cat-con as it might not be designed to take the uburnt HC from oil.

With the modern CRDI technology, which is much sensitive to even slight impurities, I dare not try this. BTW, mixing weird things has become a trend, who knows after sometime someone says drinking diesel cleans the stomach.

P.S: have you found the solution for the wet mat problem? I am really pissed-off at it, adding to that the accident took out the front left plastic wheel arch assembly.

@mastersquall: You lazy guy! [lol]

Not yet, in fact I am following your way of putting news papers and changing them everyday ;)

@umalkars: Have you checked the ac vents and the condensor tubebe as I has suggested earlier? If I were in your place, I would strip the entire carpet assembly to ascertain the source of leak. Strip the vehicle and lay down some brown paper everywhere - the paper would turn wet and the wet area would be clearly visible. Try it out if you have the time and the inclination.

P.s. Mastersquall is too busy nowadays with his new Gypsy. No wonder he is not replying.

Its not wet due to AC as the mat at the rear seat is getting wet as well (on the RHS). Probably its leaking in through the beading, will have to check that. I don't mind taking out entire carpet assembly but am not sure if I will be able to put it back properly.

Guys, noticed something - not sure if this is an issue or a normal behavior.

When I take off my foot from the accelerator, the acceleration doesn't decrease immediately. Takes some time, may be a few micro/nano seconds. Is this because the acceleration is controlled through a sensor?

As far as i know newer crdi engines are connected to the accelerator via a potentiometer and not a cable. Hence maybe the delay .

it sounds like a problem if persist for a second or more.
I heard micro and Nano seconds , what instrument are you using to measure in that range ?
Just wanted to say that it takes some time to de-accelerate after releasing the pedal, couldn't think of any other words ;)
