@umalkars: Suggest take it to Pandit Automotive Ltd. at Bhosari - I have heard good things about this Tata Service Centre. Here's the address:

Plot No T 139, MIDC, Bhosari Industrial Estate, Pune-27112003, 27112324, 24440608, 27112004, 27112002

Would help if you book an appointment first.

Yes, that's the place where I have serviced my vehicle the first time when I bought it. Also had been there a couple of times later for a minor fixes. Its certainly good and on my mind as well. The only problem is about taking appointment and also that they usually don't allow customers to be around while they fix things in the workshop.

So just wanted to try out few other options ...

A simple query .. was browsing through the manual and it recommends High speed diesel as the fuel. I am using normal diesel since I bought the vehicle, should that make any difference? Or rather if I use High speed diesel, will it improve performance / average to any extent?

Will continue using the normal one, but the manual does recommend High speed diesel. Please check the image below, just took the snap using mobile so not very clear. This is on page 92 of the manual.

@Sudhanshu: Don't loose your sleep over it. Your engine has already been used for more than 1.5 lakh kms by someone else. It makes no sense to use High Speed diesel now. High speed diesel contains fuel additives that clean the fuel system and parts of the engine as it move through those areas. As is the case with 99% fuel bunks in India, you could never sure of the quality of fuel that you are getting. So if one has to use additives, better buy a 300 ml bottle (e.g. Bardhal) from the market and mix it up personally with fuel whenever one tops up. But my advice to you is to steer clear of such thoughts. Your Safari's engine has done considerable mileage and one cannot make a 90 year old man run like Usain Bolt by feeding him Chayawanprash. Enjoy your Safari in stock form while it lasts.

P.s.: what about the water logging issue?

That was just out of curiosity [:)]

The water logging issue continues to haunt me. I was wrong when I thought that the issue is due to AC (or may be that's one reason.) It rained pretty heavily here in last 2 days and I did not drove my Safari. And today morning it was all wet inside [surprise]

@Sudhanshu: Do you park it in the open? Rain water cannot enter the vehicle from the bottom and therefore, the issue is certainly with the door beadings. Get all the door beadings replaced pronto - that's the place from where water enters. Shouldn't be a very expensive job. A couple of thousand Rs should see you through.

But get the AC condensor tube routed properly as well - remember that the vehicle was getting wet even when it was not raining!

On the lighter side, since your Safari is always wet, maybe we could name it 'Hippo'. What say?

Hippo - that's a good idea. Henceforth I may refer to it as Hippo only; my kids would love it too [lol]

Fuel additives on CRDI's should either be used right from the purchase of vehicle or never used. It is because the CRDI injectors have very minute holes for diesel injection and if the additives are used on a old vehicle for first time ever the impurities/small minute sludge might clogg the injectors.

+1 to mercedised. In an old engine that has never been run on fuel mixed with additives, the use of additives may loosen up the sludge built up over those many kilometres and this might clog the fuel passages and injectors, causing severe harm to some components.

Valid point from both you. Now the question is whether the vehicle was run on High speed diesel or the normal one? Will try to get this info from the previous owner, let's see.

High speed diesel is wastage of money, nothing else. I have been using Normal Diesel and have gotten mileages as high as 18 Kmpl. Use normal diesel, our Indian cars don't love any Diesel other than Normal.
