Jetu, That is amazing man. Hope the final outcome is going to be great. Have you finalized the stickers for body?
Not yet, but need to get them, but till now how do you feel about the developments?

Get booster brake installed,it will fit on type 3 dashboard rod which you have just got,it cost you 5 k but worth the price.
Hey Patkar, Will try to get them soon, by the way what is your sincere opinion about the progress? Please leave your comments.

I also need to ask about the engine. As of now it is running fine but don't know when it might pose a concern, but it was already overhauled by the same mechanic after which it has run for about 45000 kms but hope it does not invite for engine work atleast for few years.

But incase I need to do, I will go to the showroom and get a half assembly and no local reboring and reconditioning next time.

Wow ! The car is looking complete now.

Isn't the internal front portion painted ? Also the color is darker than the new Omni's.
Try to get the door handles and mirrors painted.

Nice paint job Jetu, the paint all over has come out very well, i see some difference in the left doors (both front and sliding door), please check this asap and if needed just give another touch up. Other part of the car has come well and the color looks different and a great one to view.

Like Varun said, paint the door handles, mirrors and the plastic strip at the back door.

So what's the planning layout for rear seats? fixing 5 seats or 8 seats?

Make sure you do enough damping inside before you fix those parts, use damping materials if budget is not a problem.

It has come-out very well jetu. I can not wait to see the final piece. I am sure it is going to look alike new car. Hope your tyres are in good condition. Make sure of the following which will for sure make your car as brand new one.

  • Already you have got New Dash and Headlight assembly
  • Make sure you steering wheel looks like new or pls cover it with good cover
  • Select nice art leather seat cover (I believe you need not to change the seat)
  • Polish your tyres
  • Have a good and new design wheel covers.
  • Body Stickers
  • As Varun and Vishwas suggested, make sure to have your door handles and OVRMs painted with body color

Color on the car is looking absolute cool. get some polish done on when your car would be ready for delivery
Progress of your car seems to be good,my car took 2 months,in which 4 weeks for tinkering,2 weeks color, and 1 week lighting and setup.

Have patience definitely outcome of the vehicle would be good,i know sometimes it takes toll over heart, bear with it.[:)]

Get new beading for window and doors,if existing once are to told or might be the wear and tear issue, specially for windshield.Another thing get the front show part water leak tested(I have suffered from this problem for some days and gave me a nightmare)

Regarding engine you have overhauled it already, not posing any issues now,so live with it.
Why to touch any thing thats running absolutely fine, later if any problem you have option to change half engine.

however if it is preventive measure than thats already welcome.
Other wise change spark plugs, delco plate and respective parts in it.(dont remember exactly.),change Engine oil by flushing(go for semi synthetic),air filter, timing belt change, alternator belt change, this is for piece of mind.

Check Engine for any rusts and wear and tear, replace any thing that is rusted beyond recovery.Check for a metal pipe which connect radiator hose with engine

How is the clutch plate?Radiator(radiator ok than flush it(flushing agent)?
Another thing get the petrol tank clean and get a new fuel gauge installed if it is too old.

My Engine has done over 80000 kms without a single rehaul,That depends how you drive and take care.

How many KMS has your engine done.If it has crossed 50k go for mineral oil.Semi synthetic causes all sorts of problems.20w-40 will be better suited.Engine flush is a good thing.

Check the water and oil pump of the car.Try to get all the seals and gaskets for the timing belt cover. This will prevent the belt from rubbing against the cover.Change the timing tensioner if needed.

Have you rebuilt the carb? You should get it service and rebuilt if you plan on using the old carb.

patkar_a has explained the rest very nicely.

My view regarding mineral oil changed recently when i changed my oil to semi synthetic,i dont know whether thats recommended or not but gave me a good experience for last 5k kms.

I changed it in april might be and engine is running silent than before and performance is lot more better than mineral. What can be serious disadvantages otherwise?

Good point Jarpickle i forgot about timing belt tensioner's,also ball bearing within those, and its cover if required.

If you find the engine silent with semi synthetic its good.I find the engine sounds really rough at high rpm with semi synthetic.

What grade are you using.

Don't remember it,its blue blood bye veedol,Semi synthetic,i was a heavy footer,so used to rev my omni to hard,i didn't find it rough at that time.

Another noticeable thing that mineral used to evaporate much faster than semi synthetic.

None of my oils are evaporating.Mineral, semi or fully synthetic.

If the car is drinking oil then you need to check the engine.

Blue blood is 10w30 according to their website.I use 15w40 semi synthetic HX5 from Shell. The performance is good. But the engine sounds rough as the rpm rises.I used 20w40 from Servo which I find to be smoother at higher Rpms.

Driving with two feet will also not cause the oil to evaporate.

It is simple, the car is drinking oil.Get a compression test done.

Shantanu.lko: Hello Sir, I was watching this thread from long time. The omni reminds me of our school van, I learnt driving in it. I love the space in OMNI, and was willing to purchase one, but bought a Maruti 800 due to easy engine access.
Regarding this black paint issue, YES its true that matt black paint is used find small dents and scratches or any small bulge in sheet metal or putty.
I had seen this process on a Show on Discovery Turbo where in the AUDI factory this method is used. But they have special testing chamber lit with specific lumen tube light at different angles and an UV light in their hand. The paint they use is anti corrosive and is later covered by 6-7 coats of the actual color of the car.
Hi Shantanu, thank you for following and sharing your views o this thread. I too love Omni for the same reasons you do. And thank you for throwing light on painting black to identify dents. It's is a good technique incorporated but in my case it's just OK as I can still see some waves on the body after painting. There is no testing chamber or a dedicated paint booth to check these dents. But that's ok now I guess.

HI Varun, it's going on at a slow pace now as he has a lot of vehicles doing rounds everyday.

Hi Patkar, yes, engine work was done but as suggested I will see if I can get it flushed once, or will get it de carbonized once at the auth service.

The car has done about 45K after engine overhaul, will consider your suggestions. The carb is new and was changed a couple of years back and I guess has since run about 8K.

HKS2412: hi jethu, the final finish will definitely be head turner and all the efforts and care will prove worthy.keep it up
