For time being I will leave it as it is, later I might respray the air filter too.
Just today found enough time to buy a new gasket(local), glue(Anabond), new bolts(TVS) and new washers (MGP) and DIY complete.

Hi,
to remove tappet cover you need to just remove the 4 x 10 size bolts and gently pull the tappet cover upwards. To spray the paint either you can use a compressor and gun (available on hire) or just give it to any painter, they would do it for about Rs.300 to Rs.400

Plz do buy a new gasket and gasket maker (glue) and fix the gasket first on the inner side of tappet cover and then paste glue on the head and fix them. the first time when I fixed it, oil was leaking and I lost about 1ltr oil :( so sec ond time I did it the right way.
The sealant take a few hours before it becomes hard. So do not start the car for a few hours once you fix the tappet cover.

Update:
The blue tappet cover started leaking oil again, looks like it is dented/warped hence gasket does not fit 100% tight. Lost oil again. So painted the stock tappet cover in silver (not a neat job) in ahurry and fixed it back. Just returned from a long drive with family - 135kms -awesome drive.

The pictures of the leak

The old tappet cover sprayed silver

Finally zero leaks from this area :)

This is how it looks now

Topped up using a thinner oil from Shell, The oil already in engine is 20W50, I topped up with 5W30 New oIl (1).jpg

Engine is much smoother now.

Its been a long time since the Clutch Release Bearing started to make loud grinding noise. Initially I thought it was wheel bearing noise and got all 4 front wheel bearings replaced. Now its high time to get the clutch release bearing replaced. Its costs about 750/- for a MGP one and takes a couple of hoursd @ the garage to get it fixed. Eagerly waiting for off.

Hi ss80,
I stay near Shanthinagar, srinivasa colony but can come over to your place sometime in the weekend if you are free, and tell you all about our Maruti 800's issues.
Something that has been ongoing for many years is the AC ducts and inner passage. The AC mechs while topping up AC gas claim that the passage is clogged and results in pressure to the cooling coil and compressor and needs to fixed ASAP. The mechs at MASS are so incompetent and just add to the existing problems and with an insane bill at the end. Please suggest an honest mech who can handle routine service for M800 efficiently. TIA

P.S: Also a DIY for cleaning the AC ducts and inner passage if possible.

Hi Raghav,

Sorry due to personal reasons, I was unable to respond to your call/emails. I am back in town now. I will contact you today or tomorrow and we will meet up.

The issue with most MASS is that they just done treat M800 with any respect. I too have faced similar situations, paid a bomb and got back nothing from MASS. After trying nearly 8garages, I gave up my hunt for garage near my home, instead I visit Uttarahalli (Ashok's Garage), the same person who rebuilt my engine. He is reliable and does no harm to the car.

About AC:

I dont have ac in my car and I am noob with regards to AC issues, however if you want to clean the air passages, you have to start from the blower motor (below dashboard) and work all the way up till the vents. We will discuss more when we meet up.

There is a shop near Ejipura signal (on koramangala inner ring road) - ADITYA CAR AC. He seems to be expert in AC installation and issues, very good reviews about his work so far from Varun and a few others. You can try that shop as well.

Just went for a short drive, half the way to airport, the engine sound completely changes after 90kmph and car struggles to cross 100kmph, looks like its a vacuum/some sort of issue with the carb settings. However the throttle response between 60 - 90 is really good, then a huge flat spot.

Nice pic ss80 !! Looks like some IT campus behind ..

You need some fog lamps to cover up the space in the bumper.

Re: Restoration of Maruti 800 1991 (Tonnes of Pics Uploaded)

Thanks Varun, I will place JCB work lamps pretty soon there.

A Major update:
The gearbox in my car is nearing its end of life, a loud humming noise (which always existed) has now turned into a vibrating grinding noise. Drive shafts are fine, gear oil topped up recently, clutch bearing although aged, the mechanic confirmed the gear rings are over stressed and only solution is to change the GB itself.

Thanks to Jarpickle, I got a mint condition speedo from a type 2 car. Yet to fix it as wiring is different for instrument cluster in 800 type1 and type 2.
new meter.jpg
Also the rotor inside the distributor was almost dead and missing in higher rpms hence changed that yesterday with a new rotor from TVS = 160/-
roto.jpg

Change of rotor should partially solve the problem I had with the car (unable to cross 90kmph).
All future plans paused (except speedo) till I get the gb replaced. I have to look for a used one (preferaby from type 2/3car) from scrapyard and buy it. Only issue is no sure way of checking the age of a GB, I might end up getting another humming, whining GB. The car is surely a hummer now [cry]

Re: Restoration of Maruti 800 1991 (Tonnes of Pics Uploaded)

@SS80, sorry for asking a doubt from a previous thread. Since that thread is closed, I am asking this here. What is that blue bar in your engine bay, connecting both the shock absorber mounts? What is the use of that? Any help in keeping the body shape or wheel alignment? Seeing such one for the first time.

Thanks in advance.
