Re: Restoration of Maruti 800 1991 (Tonnes of Pics Uploaded)

A few pics about recent activities

Added a used Pioneer cd player with new 6inch Pioneer speakers for the rear. I initially though I will install the speakers in the front but the speakers will obstruct the window glass mechanism, even after using a 1 inch spacer. So installed it in the rear.

Removed the WagonR dynamo and switched back to the stock setup with new mounts as well. Other diys - New brake master cylinder, brake pads, new suspension for front, brake oil bleeding, mudflaps too

Silly things:
Lost a wheel cap, a puncture, a new tube etc

Sometime last week, I just tried to start the car in the morning and the brake pedal was fully dead, hitting floor without any effort, I got scared and checked for oil leaks every where and found almost all oil had leaked inside the floor, since I had two carpets could not recognize the smell either. Car was not in a drivable position to be taken to a garage hence decided to do it as a DIY. Budget constraints hence opted for a normal Maste cylinder instead of Booster.
New component is from BOSCH, container is still from the old one just cleaned it.

This one was a interesting DIY -

Lots of updates, after a long time.

Hi all,

My sincere apologies for being offline for such a long time.
I have dropped the idea of buying and selling cars, instead I am doing a regular boring uninteresting BPO job.

However during weekly offs I spend time learning to paint better and also I do piece works, like wheel rims and bumpers etc, nominal charges, a whole day of sweating, end of day a 4digit income with a smiling customer [:D]

upgrades so far:

Zen dynamo (used one 50amps) - 1K
Pioneer 400 W speakers
a sparingly used Pioneer player
New Multi Reflector headlamps (sourced from Eicher) - Thanks to Varun - Rs.1000
New floor mats - Rs.300
Gear oil top up - Rs.250
about 6500kms driven since I bought it
renewed insurance 2 days back, all documents up to date - 1.7K
Wheel rims painted white
Replaced front left wheel hub (kud kud noise) - 1.7K
New Brake booster installed (5K)
........

Nice updates Anand !!

Type one users, you can get clear lens head lamps of Eicher truck which is direct fit and gives better illumination than the stock ones.

Modded the air filter, took it to tinker near my home and 45mins of trial error before getting a simple design for air filter neck, now I have connected a rubber hose of Wagon R and made it Cold Air Intake (direct from grill). Painted it blue (like 118NE)

Great to see you back. Used car business is slow and margins are sqeezing. Good you came out. Sometimes we need to do what we are best at.
Regarding painting darker color like balack hide the imperfections a lighter color(light blue) will show it.
The new wheel rims you bought what was the color black or silver?

One question I also have a 800, I have under body hole in in water outlet which needs to be welded, which place I can take to do this welding in bangalore

I bought only 1 new rim (Silver colour), and painted it white just like other wheels.
If you are near Banaswadi, I can take you to a known garage. If not you can visit any normal body works garage. For a patch work the size of palm, they charge about 500 - 800 (max).

Nice work with the M800, it looks great.
Im new to TAI, im mainly into motorcycles and scooters but have a keen interest in bringing the best out of our Maruti 800(1997). We recently got an aesthetic makeover done. I would be needing the valuable tips and advice of you veterans to help DIY fix a few niggles in this otherwise flawless M800. [:)]
Can anyone suggest a decent honest private mech who can service our M800, we have had a forgettable experience with MASS, all they do is replace parts left, right and center regardless of its service life and thus presenting a ridiculous bill at the end.
TIA

Hi guys, I have sent you PM's for your queries. Today being my weekly off, just cleaned a spare tappet cover I had and painted it metallic blue. The outcome is not great, but just good.
