Prices and more info

A very Happy New year and congratulations on the purchase of the tools. Please share the cost of the jack.
Thanks a lot and wish you the same Shantanu Bhai!

Jack cost is 1450/- [bottle jack is superb and starts from Rs.500/- (for M800) and Rs.1050 for Ikon kind of cars, but the only issue is in case of puncture, GC is too low for the bottle jack to go underneath at the right place.

Axle stands (planning to buy next month - a pair)
- Imported ones with easy height adjuster is 750/- each
- Local ones with manually inserting key/pin to lock the height is 400/- each

Finally I could see a update.. let more updates come in the new year.

Waiting to see your car in full this year.
Yeah I too am tired of fiddling in the car and spending money day & night on it. Hopefully I should be able to drive it this year atleast. Funny thing is for firewall insulation, I have to again dismantle the whole dashboard area [frustration].

SS80- Does the foam sheet for firewall is for noise insulation or heat insulation? Or it provides both?
Please let me know the price of that sheet and also the length required for our cars.
One more question- What benefits does relocating the fuel filter provides?

Sumit:

The foam sheet is mainly to reduce the noise, not sure if it can make a difference to heat from engine bay. Problem in my car, the fuel filter is hanging with the support of those rubber tubes very close to rear left wheel, so to be on safer side I am opting to relocate to the engine bay, not much of a difference, just easy to replace when ever required.

Update - Car damping complete
Today's hot afternoon was dedicated in removing the dashboard and fixing the foam sheet. Used newspaper to trace the exact shapes and cut the foam accordingly. Much cheaper and better finish than yoga mats. It is a 8mm foam sheet cot = 70/- per meter.

210/- for 1 litre of fevicol adhesive (used for footwear products), cheaper than SR glue and seems to be good. For firewall we need approx 1 meter of this foam sheet.

I am not sure if that sheet can withstand the heat from the engine bay. For the rust you could have at least used body filler.

Any way good progress hope to see it on roads soon.

SS80- Nice progress so far. How about covering the floor area of the car too with those foam sheets.
Please share your experience with these sheets once you drive the car.

Hi,
Its a nice attempt to reduce noise and heat inside the cabin but I too doubt that it will withstand the heat. I hope, you'll use the original firewall insulation too. BTW, if you visit the local scrap yard you can buy 2-3 maruti 800 insulation sheets and use the insulation material to make one sheet.

This foam is known as Heatlon. So I guess it prevents heat coming in. I have put the same below the carpet in my Uno. I have even applied it on the firewall inside the engine bay and then covered it with a foil sheet. Same thing will be done for the bonnet.

OK, I dint know that this is only for heat, thanks for sharing the right info, because the guy at the shop mentioned that its for sound absorption etc. Can this also be pasted to the floor on the underside to avoid the heat from the exhaust pipe?

Every time I have visited the scrapyard, I get conned one way or the other. So I am avoiding the scrapyard as far as possible. I also dint know the name of that material - insulation cloth ? Is a new one available.

Yeah I will surely.

I am really not ready to dig deep into this car as of now, especially body has so much minor works, I am scared to do anything about it. Lets hope it holds for atleast a few months of my usage.

Update:

Completed work on all door pads and now I am searching for the handles and screws, not sure where I have left them. The finishing is not great/ close to pro kind. But it looks a bit different from the usual polythene the OEM stuff comes with.

Gstar:

Please check the rubber pipes that connect the carb to the fuel lines and also check if there is any fuel leak anywhere in the car (near fuel filter). If issue still persists then I suggest you open a new thread, upload clear pics of engine bay and underbody. May be we can get some solution based on pics. All the best. [drive]

hi everyone,

let me tell you the whole new story of my car actually day before yesterday i took it to my mechanic (who works maruti Suzuki as a technician) to fix the misfiring he found earlier.after opening the filter we found a lot of fuel in air filter also noticed if we fit air filter as normal on onto the carb then engine struggles to work and if remove the filter then it is normal even doesn't misfire. then we tried without air filter just covering the carb mouth with hands then it does same as with filter. i don't know what came into the mechanic's head, he said engine creates to much vacuum. i don't the actual process of the engine with vacuum. any suggestion please.
thank you.

Can it be welded or would you have to change the entire tank?

Its a pain to discover one problem after the other. I can relate to this. Had the same kind of problems with my 800
