Thank you all for all the help , my little Honda came home yesterday, just sharing a few pics [:)]

Learned driving almost 3 months back so quite nervous to take her out now. Asked a driving teacher from a local driving school to accompany me in the morning & have driven about 10kms mostly in 2nd & 1st gear, did manage to hit the eco lamp at times , MID shows 11.2kmpl as FE.

I was going through the user manual and was surprised to not find any info about run in and neither the suggested speeds for various gears(do they want us to rely on ECO lamp for this?) . Would appreciate answers on the above queries and more than welcome any driving tips.

T. How was your Kanyakumari trip ?
It was a breeze on the 4 way expressways. I had made up my mind to keep FE in my mind while driving. We were 5 on board. We had a trip of 1200 kms. B'lore-Krishnagiri-Salem-Dindigul-Madurai. The road till Krishnagiri was good. Then you get diversions for half an hour or so.After that you feel you are flying[;)]

The rear passengers didn't complain much of space and comfort. May be also because we had regular stops of 10 mins every hour. Did not want to throw strain on the engine.I ended up experimenting with different speeds. Overall average FE achieved was 21.4 kmpl.

These are the figures at different speeds.
A constant 60-80 kmph drive for an hour returned a massive 26 kmpl.
80-100 returned returned 22 kmpl.
100-120 kmph returned 19.5
120 kmph and above 4k rpm returned 16-17kmpl (16.6 I think).

With these I must say speeds above 110 or 120 dont return FE that can be termed as "good" by I-vtec standards.

The ecolight really encourages sedate driving. The babe feels planted with high on confidence at high speeds (>130 kmph). The max speed touched was 150kmph. It takes a lot of time to go past mid 140's to 150 speed.

All in all I must say everything except the boot space (for 5 on board) was beyond comparison. Simply awsome. Its a drivers car

I must add I was asked by couple of diesel hatchback owners at A2B hotel regarding the FE. I showed them the MID. They asked "why have we paid the premium for diesel ?"[lol]

That was exactly how I felt when I checked FE on the MID. I was like What?? Are you kidding? I was expecting a max of 23. [surprise]

I had driven it very slow that hour. Very light foot. Not exceeding 60-70kmph in the 5th gear. Low engine load gave me a better output is what I feel. The road probably one of the best in india. But then again we were 5 in the car. Imagine if I was alone and driving at that speed. Then what ? 30kmpl ? Oh god. Please !! [lol]

Ajay

Have you checked the fuel Economy by tank full method for the entire trip. If not please do it so that MID figures can be confirmed [;)]. People have two much reservations about MID FE figures.

In city difference is merely 1-1.5 km/ltr between MID FE figures and Tank full method.

It was 30F and 27R :)

The total average FE I mentioned (21.4) was by tankfull method.

Now these figures below,
A constant 60-80 kmph drive for an hour returned a massive 26 kmpl.
80-100 returned returned 22 kmpl.
100-120 kmph returned 19.5
120 kmph and above 4k rpm returned 16-17kmpl (16.6 I think).

I was checking w.r.t to speed for every 1 hour gap. So I cant be precise in the amount of fuel consumed in the hour. Hence I had to stick to MID stats by resetting it every hour.

Agree to your point of difference between MID and full tank. I have had a difference of half to 3/4th of a km at max. Not more than that. But yeah Full tank method is a better way to calculate exact FE 'because MID will not consider the fuel consumed in idle condition.

If we take average of above four MID figures, FE is coming to 21.025 [;)]. It is close to your total trip average. I general how much speed you maintained for the maximum time during the trip [:)].

It was between 100-120 kmph most of the time buddy. After the 5 hour trip at different speeds. [:)]

It was 1270-1280 kms to be precise and around 59litres of petrol

My ODO currently reads 4571 km. The performance and FE will improve only after the first service. Its just that the engine settles down at 5000 km. We were getting used to the engine and so was the case vice versa. 5000 km is the state where you can say engine knows how we intend to handle it [:)]
