Fiat engineers could be in coma after listening this news [lol]
Maruti has definitely developed excellent skills to fine tune this Fiat MJD at will. 0-100 kmph in 11.30 secs with 1.3 ltr VGT engine and that too with the best mileage figure in India -26+! Where on earth did they find the right combination of ECU & gear ratios? Kudos to MSIL.
This made my day [lol]. Definitely they would have been shocked.

Ciaz uses the same 90BHP Fiat MJD with VGT from Ertiga. In Ertiga, there is turbo lag below 1800 RPM and turbo starts spooling post 1800 RPM and once 2000 RPM is crossed, you get sudden serge/rush of power and it continues further. Looking at the first reports of Ciaz, they have fine tuned this engine to reduce turbo lag below 2000 RPM which is welcome move, while keeping the DNA of this engine (serge post 2000RPM) intact. And due to the lesser weight of Ciaz, it accelerates prety quick and above 0-100 kmph rating suggests the same. Fingers crossed though!
Thanks for the information regarding Ertiga's performance. As the weight of the car is low and if the engine performs as they say it would, then it is not at all a bad car to drive. I don't completely believe auto reviewers, I need to drive the car myself to know it. As of now I am very neutral towards this car. I need to sit inside, feel the interior and drive the car to know its performance. If the engine doesn't struggle and the performance is adequate then I would like this car. I am also thinking that its 125 kilos lighter than Linea. But Fiat engines in Fiat cars are tuned in a different way. If my swift's clutch plates wear out in 50,000 kms, my punto's clutch plates didn't wear out until I sold it 2 months ago, which clocked 70,000 kms. So there are many aspects that I look in for.

Ohh Boy! Maruti has nailed it perfectly. I for sure didn't even imagine the lower variants would be loaded with so many features. Projector headlamps, Chromed interior-door handles,Rear AC vents, Front and rear armrests & Electrically adjustable ORVM's with integrated turn indicators are standard across all trims[clap], which otherwise are provided in top trims normally.

Without question, V+ variant looks the most VFM package and might be bestselling one.

Maruti anticipates the diesel version of V and V+ to be the best sellers. Production stock built anticipating the same.

We are yet to see interior shots of V, V+ and Z variants. I am keen to see how the dashboard console looks, specially the ICE HU & manual AC knobs in those variants.
Somebody, please share pictures of those if available. Nothing available on net for the moment.

Yes you are right. In Europe they caliculate like this. But in the real world, we all know that ARAI figures are not accurate . In UK, people filed a complaint on manufacturers saying that cars doesn't give claimed mileage figures. Then ARAI people explained that these tests are conducted in a closed room with minimum friction environment and report the mileage figures to the manufacturer. So ARAI figures are utter useless and they are only used by the manufacturers to market their cars.
Yeah, ARAI figures do mislead, but if driven under even better conditions the mileage exceeds the ARAI figure.
ARAI Figure is like % of score of your exam. It gives the comparison against the 100% where we stand and where other stand. As the ARAI is carried out in standard condition for all the vehicles.

Getting the ARAI figure in real world is not possible. Because you have so many factors which will affect the mileage. It can lead +/- of ARAI Mileage.
1. Road Condition
2. Speed
3. Gear
4. Driving Style
5. Load
6. Fuel Quality
7. Traffic Condition
8. Environment Condition
9. Driver Mental Condition [;)] and the list goes on.

If we are comparing ARAI with real world mileage, we are lacking on the knowledge about ARAI.

Except Alto and 800, all the others are "V" bestsellers. "V" might mean Value-for-money
Maruthi Suzuki still wants to play with People Safety with their lower variant of premium cars. [frustration]

Are these are much more important features than ABS & (Atleast) Driver side airbag.

Look at the base variant of 2014 releases. All the below releases have ABS & Driver Airbag in their base variant.
Honda City, Fiat Linea, Ford Fiesta, Nissan Sunny

That's MSIL, they don't care what's going to happen after they have made the sale- Accidents, changes in R&R, theft. These guys come up with a car that has a LOT of show and little go. Do people opting for Base variant really need the Projector H/L? The two tweeters? Armrest? Perhaps people want to die listening to music [frustration]. They should at least give ABS, easily covered if the take out the armrests, the projectors and mainly the rear A/C. Okay, Music system is a must, and if people are not driving for themselves, the Rear A/C vents are too. But in that case, they would not care if the driver goes to Heaven. So that explains the missing Driver airbags. But ABS can prevent anyone from using them, or prevent the car from landing in a ditch. So, ABS should be standard, airbags should be optional. Was I ranting? Yes I was.[roll]

So I got some information regarding ciaz from my works manager who went for training . The top end variant is having push button start and you need to depress both clutch and brake & then press the button to start the engine. The clutch switch sensor and brake switch sensors are linked to the ecm. As you all know, we have both BCM (body control module) and ECM for cars these days. And there is an entirely new ECM designed for the ciaz, which has multiple processors on the chipset where each processor has a functionality. So using this advanced ECM they have tuned the engine, controlling the injections per cycle, turbo vane movement, radiator fan speed and many other things making the engine very powerful and efficient. What they say is, ciaz is more of an electronically advanced vehicle than mechanical.

And by the way, I also have the information regarding the pricing. The top end ciaz ZDI+ is going to cost 12 lakhs OTR in Hyderabad .

Valid point guys, ABS should be provided on all variants at least by MSIL as they are the largest Car manufacturer in India and they should set the right trend eventually.
But i guess, MSIL has made some progress over these years. 3 years back, MSIL used to give ABS only on top variants (ZDI/ZXI) and lower & middle trims were skipped for it. But if one look at four variants of Ciaz wiz V, V+, Z & Z+, MSIL has equiped 3 variants with ABS and Driver side Airbag(at least) which is good news. Hopefully they will improve further with SX4 Cross and other new products while providing the ABS to even lowest trim.

But then, I also agree that ABS is more important than Projector headlamps or hadrests to say, and it should have been replaced by ABS if cost was to be kept in limit.

BTW, 2014 Honda City lowest trim E (petrol) does not come with ABS. This is all about the marketing gimmick for starting price by all manufacturers, as they know there are hardly any buyers for lowest trim now a days and sales figures do tells the same.

Good to know that Govt is at least keen to make ABS mandatory, add driver side Airbag to it as well.

E variant comes with ABS & Airbag in both Petrol & Diesel versions.

Ciaz is impressive, but one thing it'll be begging for is brand image. That plays very important role in buyers decision. Honda City is a established player and is the highest selling car. There is Verna too which has placed itself as premium. Unless Maruti prices it 60k-100k cheaper then City, it'll be a flop. Let's wait for launch then.

Yes right. Maruti has to overcome this image of not being premium brand when it comes to C segment or above. And Maruti will definitely undercut City by at least 50K, better they don't dare to come close to City/Verna in pricing!
If priced sencibly, Ciaz will definitely compete with City with all means as it has lot of potential.

They had to do so. I am not surprised by this. It was expected from Maruti because they know Indians very well and price accordingly. The cars which they had overpriced failed.
