1. There are 3 options.
a) 100/90 : This would cost around 2k. You will need extra wiring and ceramic holders. Output will be yellow but much more powerful than stock ones.
b) 60/55 : In this, you have Philips XV, Osram NB+ and the like. Costs about 1-1.3k and is a plug-n-play. Output will be slightly (20-25%) more than stock setup, not comparable to 100/90.
c) HID Projector : Best output of all three. It will require opening up of headlamps and will cost 15-20k for branded kits (6-8k for non branded).

2. Yes, foglamp HIDs are possible. Cost would be around 3k for a set and fitting is also easy. Check out BHVM's threads for more info.

MODS Move this query to Accessories and Modifications or Lighting thread please.
500hp, been there done that.

I suggest you do this- get a 90/100 relay kit, typically called a cutout. Get one with ceramic holders so that the heat is kept from being conducted to your headlight housing.

Now get 55/60W bulbs ice_wise is talking about. Also get the 90/100 bulbs in due course. For daily driving, use the 55/60 bulbs. For monsoon, use the 90/100.

Sounds dumb na? The logic is this- bulb illumination depends on the voltage they receive. The relay kit allows them to receive a constant voltage. So even the high wattage 55-60W bulbs will suffice with a relay kit. However, wet surfaces absorb light, so get the 90/100 bulbs and use them in the monsoon only. If you use those bulbs in daily life, the reflectors will heat up and start to go yellow. This will reduce the illumination in the long run. So use them only in the monsoons.

Another thing- use fog lights all the time. This helps illumination.

Finally, at signals and in traffic, make it a habit to switch off the headlights and drive on fog lamps alone. Not only will this increase the headlight and bulb life, it will let your eyes open wider. So once you start moving again and switch on your headlights, you will percieve more illumination.

Try out the last part for a few days and you will start noticing the difference

Hi Team,

I own 9 month old Swift VDI. I have some doubts can any one throw some lights on that. Let me explain.

1. To my eyes I feel Left side of the car is slightly lower than that of Driver side. (May be my wrong assumption). But is there a way to check that the car is in straight condition.?

2. When releasing the first gear I feel light reduce in rpm without any shake in the car. Its Just lite. Is that Normal ?

If any car enthusiasts in Chennai pls PM me so that I can double check before doing out any work in the car.

Welcome all suggestion/replies.

Thanks.

It must just be a feeling just like some people feeling the car is down in the front when they see it from the side

If you feel its not i would say go to a tyre shop deflate all tyres and fill it up with nitrogen with same PSI on all tyres like 30PSI should be fine and check it out, park the car on a flat cement surface and see it for yourself, most of the times it would be just a human eye problem

Chances of one side appearing down even though if its for real would be because of the impact on chassis and i guess it might not be the case in your car

For the RPM issue i would say don't accelerate and just leave the clutch on the first gear (no foot on accelerator) to see if there is any dip or Shrudding feel or decline in the RPM as there are very less chances for any 8 month old car to have this complaint

If you still feel skeptical i would tell you to check with a local mechanic on this issue first before u leave it at MASS as they might just rip you accepting this as a complaint even if its not genuine

1. Check the tyre pressure in both sides but you have to make sure that the road is also straight. A 9 month old car's suspension should be fine, so I think that it is just your assumption.

2. Without using accelerator pedal, RPMs do come down a notch after which the ECU prevents stalling and brings up the revs. Are you a new driver?

Thanks for your suggestion. I will test by this eve and come back to this conversation again.

Ananth,

all small petrol cars drop rpm like that. If you are used to a diesel, you will feel that difference.

The car shouldn't feel bent over to one side. I think you feel that way more because the road is crowned to allow rain water to drain to the rain water gutter

Hi Ameyam,

I have now Swift Diesel. Yesterday checked again multiple time. Below is my observation,

1. First gear and I released the clutch without acceleration.
2. Observed very very slight dip in rpm and then again it keeps constant.

I hope this is not problem and common among all other swift diesel cars. Please input details if it is normal or not.

May be my wrong assumption.

Thanks,.

Modern cars come with an ECU which also prevents the car from stalling. It is the brain of the car. When you leave the clutch without accelerator input, the car moves forward but the revs slightly dip (100-200 RPMs) from idle RPM and when the ECU detects that the car is about to stall, it increases the revs to the RPM needed to keep the car still going ahead and also prevent it from stalling.

Since diesel engines have more torque, the decrease in RPM is lesser than in petrol engines. In petrol engines, the car starts to shudder. There is no such drama in diesel. It is normal. If you still have doubts, check this on a TD vehicle at showroom or any customer's car at service centre. I had a Dzire VDI and a similar behaviour, although it was not noticeable/felt unless you look for the dip in RPMs in the tachometer.

Thank you ice.

I am bit relieved from my thinking.

Hello guys,

Have finally decided to change stock MRF ZVTVs(185/65/R15) to part away with the infamous tyre noise on my swift Zxi. Have decided on the Yokohoma AVS DB(195/60/R15), whats your take on this. Also, how's Michelin XM2 and Yokohoma Earth 1(185/65/R15) compared to Yokohoma AVS DB in term of tyre noise. Thanks in advance!!

My car is heating up. How many litres of coolant should i change in dezire LDI and which brand ?
Topping off coolant should be a easy task for the MASC. The real issue is how is it that the coolant level is dropping. Look for leaks etc when the car is parked overnight

Check under the dashboard near heater core swifts and dzires are known for heater core leaks. If there are no external visible leaks then check these things immediately. Check engine oil colour, is there any milky white residue, you can open oil filling cap and look inside of the cap check for milky residue. Check coolant tank any milky residue?. Check tail pipe is there any white residue, check exhaust gas colour White/Gray Smoke: White exhaust smoke is an indication that coolant is burning in the combustion chamber. While radiator coolant cap opened someone can start the car if you see some air bubbles in the coolant filler neck while starting the car then there is head gasket problem after checking immediately close the cap otherwise once coolant heats it over flows. Check water pump drive belt tension and water pump leaks and bearing condition. Engine heating is very serious, how far needle going up, Can be of minor head gasket failure. It is very serious. As 44 k has clocked,
Coolant can be replaced.
Gear oil requires a top up only.(If level is low)
Brake fluid level can be checked and fluid can be topped up.
If braking is poor ,brakes can be bled up and fluid can be replaced.
