Hi,

since a couple of days, there is a grunting sound from the front wheels when I brake at slow speed. Now, my swift is just 5 months old and the brake pads still have plenty of meat, so this is not a metal caliper grinding on the rotor. But it does sound like that. Seems to happen only at low speeds, I havent heard it happening from high speeds so far. Any ideas?

I serviced my Ritz in a Maruti Authorised Service station as regular servicing. They told they have adjusted the pedals. What I feel while moving in 1st gear to and fro for parking, the application of break gives a sound as if it engages [ Ghat,ghat..like this]. It sounds only in 1st gear. They break pedal got too sensitive. Is it normal or shall I take the car to service station again? Experts advice solicited.

If you have a spare of tools. Check the pads! May have broken or cracked

Seems its not terrible issue nor a all one.
We need more info about the cause.
Brakes are nothing to do with gears
May be when you are slow it could have heard.
Can you say the model or kms driven?
When you last changed the brake pads?
Does the sound looks when releasing or pressing the pedal?
Pedal cant be adjusted though. Its a hydraulic automatic brakes.
Service guys could have said some thing else

In my case, some components on the calliper needed grease. Problem solved for now but would really like the brakes to be sharper

Fluid level must be between or above max right
Let the dipstick be rod type or a flat one how it is going to make a difference as far MIN and MAX levels are marked on it properly. A thin film of oil appears on the corresponding hole which indicates the level. Can you please upload a pic of the flat dipstick so that others can better understand what exactly you want to convey.

Ok, one small thing to clarify. In a cold car, preferable standing overnight, take that dip stick out and clean it on a piece of tissue or cloth. Then dip it again and pull it out. This will give an exact oil level. It should be between the min and max levels marked. Whether the stick is a flat or a rod, doesnt matter.

I do have a query regarding the oil though- how to know when its time to change it, irrespective of level. The oil in my Swift is low and a lot more brown then it was before in the 5 months I have had the car. Its about to be serviced and I know that they will top of the oil level which is low, so I was wondering whether to just top it off or have it replaced all together. Also, will decarbonisation be required at this stage if I replace the oil?
