Re: New Swift Dzire Sub-4 Meters Length

I agree that such chopped boot sedans have defeated the purpose of actual sedan (this trend was initiated by Tata though). But notchback isn’t a new segment and it doesn’t necessarily always translate into smaller boot space: http://www.theautomotiveindia.com/f...entation-cars-basis-body-types.html#post50695

How i wish they made this like a hatchback instead(it would have had a good boot space) - something like the skoda fabia i had , also the bodyshape would have been much better in my opinion and boot space much better than swift - perhaps they were afraid for the same reason.

Re: New Swift Dzire Sub-4 Meters Length

My point too. I do not understand this cheap mentality and its intended spread by Maruti. Just to make a car meet certain tax-saving standards they have defeated the sole purpose of a sedan. I mean what do you call this vehicle. Is it a new category coming up now? Notchbacks?

It was fine till there was only Tata Indigo, now Dzire too! Horrible.

I know that interiors, boot, overall package has been bumped up a little but the whole point of this perplexes me. A boot which is somewhere near 300Ltrs, and has such a high loading point. This is perfect example of a big local car maker playing to the tune of market sensibility, i.e. 'owning a sedan, when you actually you do not need one!' They could have taken a lead and brought out something which does justice to a 3-box design.

People may still say that there is a full fledged sedan in SX4. Alas, automobile design in India has taken a great leap!!!
Quoting a couple of paras from Jeremery Clarkson's 'Least Liked Cars'. Notice how beautifully he puts across the point that how a car should be for it to have at least some appeal. Since all of us TAIndians are automotive enthusiasts, I guess no more words would be required after reading this to understand how WE (I was going to type 'I' but I am sure I can use 'we') feel about the way car making is headed today[sad]:

Other cars I don’t want include the Mazda2, the Subaru WRX, the BMW 3-series, the Mercedes GL, the Vauxhall Vectra, the Porsche Boxster, anything with a Seat badge, and even the £117,500 Bentley Flying Spur.

The Bentley may tick all the boxes. It may be the fastest four-door saloon car in the world and it may have exquisitely machined heater vent knobs. What’s more, it uses many of the same parts as the Volkswagen Phaeton, a car I like very much indeed. And yet it lacks the vital final ingredient. Call it what you will: flair, élan, passion. It’s not there. It is a car with no soul.

There’s a very good reason for this. Volkswagen made the Continental GT because it wanted to make a good large car. And having done that, at very great expense, the marketing people and the accounts department obviously pointed out that a few more could be sold if a cheaply reengineered saloon version was added to the lineup. The Flying Spur, then, was created not to be brilliant. But as a sop to the economies of scale. It was built to make money. And that never works.

Great rendering, Pankaj. Given that Tata has released different variants of Indica (Indigo, Marina etc.), we never know if Maruti follows the same suite.

Thanks,

But I don't think Maruti gonna do that as they are already bringing Ertiga/RIII as a utility vehicle. But I think they could had done this kind of crossover job earlier when there was no one in the league.

Tata brought Marina but it wasn't successful, other manufacturers like Skoda, GM, Fiat etc also have done this kind of country vehicle job earlier but no-one got successful. But I strongly believe that it could had been a totally different story in Maruti's case as they didn't had this kind of product in their line-up.

These two options could had been considered other than Dzire :
1. Swift-crossover with a 1.6 MJD engine, and two small foldable seats at the back with little more sturdy body construction at the back than the Dzire - what a hot cake it could been!

2 This kind of vehicle based on the current Swift with current engine setup and extended boot with length under 4 meter.

I got the brochure of this new swift dzire & I am glad to see that MSIL has clearly mentioned the body type as "Notchback" & not sedan.

About few months ago I rendered a crossover based on Swift, here is the link of that story :
Imagining a Suzuki Swift crossover - Rendering

And this is the rendered image:

I am sure that a station wagon as rendered by you would be a better option Maruti Suzuki could work on rather then restyling shorter boot on restyled swift.

The problem it seems is that Maruti Suzuki has NOT been able to fill the Vacuum created by discontinued Maruti Esteem. MSIL does not have a genuine Sedan in 4 to 5 lac segment. The effort by adding the boot on the swift was a chop job rather then design. Now under competition, another chop job to create sub-3.99 mtr sedan is NOT going to fill that vacuum.

MSIL needs to get their act right and get a low cost but real Sedan as SX4 is 8+ sedan and does not replace Esteem.

Saw the new Dzire ZDI flesh on the road today, must say it looks brilliant and not like we hated in the photos which was shared earlier, The DZire with 15" Alloys was awesome.

Re: New Swift Dzire Sub-4 Meters Length

It seems people were just waiting for this car.

Yesterday I saw 5 of them on the road here in Daman. There were 3 of them in one roadside parking space, parked adjacent.

Re: New Swift Dzire Sub-4 Meters Length

I saw 3 of them in Mumbai and with all due respect and I have no intention to hurt any future owners in my view the car looks extremely funny and ugly as ever . The indigo cs is million times better looking cs then the dezire in my opinion .
