Re: Maruti 800: Technical Issues and Solutions

No Heater [cry]. I inquired the AC mechanic here. An heater coil can be installed. It will cost Rs 2000 to 2500. But no need of heater as its never very chilling in my city. But somehow if I source any heater by jugaad I'll surely install one. [;)]

Yeah no need of heater but when the temp. drops in winter even the heater doesn't feels comfortable. Have experienced this first hand in my Alto [:)]
BTW why not scout the scrap market for these parts, you can get some great deals there. I have some contacts there though 5 speed 800 dx is a rarity there too.
Anyways you can look for many spares there as yours is a pre-facelift model.

Re: Maruti 800: Technical Issues and Solutions

hi all
i am a final year student and currently working on FISSME cars which uses maruti 800 MPFI engine. i need a little help with the transmission.
while changing the gears all the other gears engage perfectly except for the 2nd gear. the lever jams when shifting for 2nd gear.
also how much is the clutch movement at the engine together with the freeplay?
'cuase the clutch lever on my engine barely seems to move. it hardly moves 1cm from the static position. not counting the freeplay.
also i have used Minidor clutch cable instead of OEM maruti cable. should that be a problem?

May the shifter in the gear box is damaged, did check if there is oil in the gear box.

Why not try the cable from maruti itself ?

Re: Maruti 800: Technical Issues and Solutions

1. but the other gears are shifting just fine. so the shifter should be fine.
2. yes the oil in the gearbox is 70%
3. because in FISSME cars the engine is supposed to be placed in the rear. so in order to reach the pedal assembly a long cable is required. minidor comes with a long cable. so i cant use maruti
4. is the clutch play i mentioned earler is sufficient?

If you are still facing problems, check gearshift control shaft that connects to the gear lever. Also check the gear shift shaft that connects to the gearbox.

Maybe the bushing there are damaged or the rod(gear shift shaft itself is damaged)and preventing the gear shift.

also i have used 2 custom made radiators on either side of the car instead of a single maruti radiator. core size-300X250X40 mm. the circuiting is done in parallel. should that be a problem for engine cooling?

@jarpickle
thank you for the picture. but is it possible for the other gears to engage when the shaft itself is damaged. coz apart from 2nd gear its quite easy to upshift

Re: Maruti 800: Technical Issues and Solutions

Though its not a technical issue but i thought this is the most appropriate thread for my query. Actually i need some help regarding cleaning of the interior roof lining in my type 2 800. Its quite dirty courtesy the previous owner [frustration]
I would like to know how to clean the same. Have seen some clean patches under the sunvisor area and i must admit they are quite contrasting. Hope to find some answers here.

Engines turns off after prolonged running

When I drive long distances, my M800 type 2 engine turns off the moment I press the clutch pedal down to change the gear and it wouldn't turn ON. I had to leave it idle for say 20 mins and then it runs again without any problems until I press the clutch pedal down within another 5 to 10 mins. This problem did not occur when the AC was NOT ON. Starting the engine through key turn or by releasing the clutch while it is in motion did not help.

The distance was around 250 Kms non stop with no gear change in between (as it was a night drive). The moment I pressed the clutch to make a turn, the engine turned off and all lights on dashboard lit ON. I waited for 20 mins for the engine to come back to life.

I checked the temperature gauge and it was slightly lower than the middle position, the engine fan was running fine. I also opened the bonnet and did not feel too higher temperatures. No coolant leaking, engine oil issues as it has been already check at the local garage as well as MASS but they couldn't sort it out. I strongly feel that it happens only when the AC was ON. No issues with AC ON in city drives or short drives.

Any thoughts?

Check for any sensors failure. Have you got the car tested through scan gauge at MASS ?
It may be due to faulty wiring too, as the A/C turns on it sends a signal to ECM which increases the idle RPM, may be in your case its not working.
