Re: Maruti 800: Technical Issues and Solutions

@samsag12 thanks for the reply i have fixed the beading leakage long back it was leaking from top of right side i had already cross checked this section it may something else from dash board any possibilities
Kindly check the lower side corner of the rubber beading (glass area side), water must be seeping in from there.
Actually apart from the windshield rubber beading, radio antenna slot & the fresh air intake duct (the grill just above bonnet) water can't enter the front cabin area from anywhere else. (rust bucket is an exception though [:)] )

You might have to replace the rubber around the windshield.Use RTV silicone before placing the windshield back.

Once the car gets old some leakages do happen due the metal rusting.Might have to get some tin work done for major leakages. After getting the welding done spray it with some paint.

Heater and AC came with the DX model.

For the gearbox problem. It might be the clutch, get it adjusted and get the carburettor serviced.

If you find the gearbox making noise or grinding sound it might be time to get it serviced. You can try using thicker HP140 oil instead of HP90 oil.Once you get it serviced you can change back to HP 90 oil.

Re: Maruti 800: Technical Issues and Solutions

I would suggest that you get it checked with a good mechanic.

Is gear shifter getting into position properly when you put it into first and second or does it move around?

If it moves around after you put it into first then the bushes need to be changed.Do it immediately or else it might turn into an expensive job.

Check all the shafts in the gearbox. Is there a stone stuck in between them. You can see this from the underneath the car.

Check underneath the car to see if a stone is trapped between the shaft from the gear shifter lever to the gearbox.

If it is humming sound or clicking sound then the gearbox needs to be overhauled.

Depends on what is wrong.A mechanic would be able to tell you all that after opening your gearbox or after driving your car depending.

I can't give you a ballpark figure. But if it costs more than 5-6k then go to Shivaji nagar and buy a second hand gearbox.Take your mechanic along and pick a good one.

Re: My Modified Maruti 800.

Sorry for my interruption friends.
Need the help from you experts in solving my alternator problem of my 800 (5 Speed).

My alternator stopped working couple of months back and the local workshop guy changed the same with a used alternator claiming that the replaced one is of 5speed 800's only.

I had to drive in a night last week when it was raining heaviliy, for half an hour. my headlamps, A/C, wipers in full speed and music system was working. After half an hour, all these gradually stopped working but somehow I reached home. I could see that my battery was fully drained.

It was a clear indication that the alternator couldnt generate the power as required. Now my plan is to buy a new alternator. Arun - Could you please suggest me on this? Can I buy an Alto's alternator? How much it costs? Good suggestions are welcome please.

Re: My Modified Maruti 800.

Thanks Sethumurugan. What is the rating of the alternator of Maruti 800? is there a difference between the ratings of 4speed and 5 speed 800's alternators? Also what is the rating of Alto alternator?

The spare shop people will try to convince us to buy the one which is available with them. Since 5 speed 800 is not in manufacturing now, I think they will fool me if I go to buy without having a knowledge technically.

Re: My Modified Maruti 800.

I was not sure about the price. Even the price which I have mentioned was a tentative price which was mentioned to me in 2009 when I have same kind of problem only in nights. car will start nicely from home. after driving of few hours if the car switched of accidently or I stop for a break and restart BANG.. it wont start. I might need some one's help [Later i have trained my son to push the car[;)] ] then it will start.

When I went to Maruti they coated something around 4-5k which I was not able to spend at that time. identically I met a batery shop guy and he guided me to an electrician who just connected a wire directly from alternator to batery positive point. That is it, then I had not had that problem for next one and half years till I sold the m800

Mine was 4 gears and no idea about the price difference between 4 gear and 5 gear. sorry, was not able to provide you enough information.
