If you have the pin jumped properly it should not come back to 5°. If it is coming back to 5° it means the the ECM is not being blocked.

Ground the pin to the body of the car.Set the timing and check again if it retards from 7° to 5°.

it retards when I get off the jumper of the pin, when it's grounded it stay on 7° with no variations so I think its blocked without problems..

Yes,you can keep your current settings.Just reset the ECM by removing the ECM fuse or the negative battery terminal. Then check the timings again. If it stays at 7° when its ungrounded then your problem is solved. If not manually set it to 7° ungrounded

Just remember higher the timing the higher the mileage will be.I would suggest that you go over the grounding procedure again.Find another grounding spot.

Try grounding the diagnostic terminal in the ALDL connector. When the ECM sees this terminal grounded it stops controlling the advance and sets its internal advance at zero. You then adjust the distributor to 7° and when you remove the terminal grounding wire the ECM assumes you have the ECM set at 7° advance and goes from there.

If you try without ungrounding it won't let you.

Also Juan, I would suggest that you start a new thread about this grounding problem. That will get you more help from across the forum. There are a lot of people with MPFI 800's here.Whereas I am just a CARB 800 man.My knowledge on MPFI cars is limited.

I also think that, more advances is more mileage.. I'm currently grounding to the ground terminal in the coupler..

I will try that, I only tried grounding the test terminal.. When I try to set the timing without grounding it very unstable, because of control of ECM

I started a new thread, but it was merged with this..

Just name it differently.Name it "Timing issue in ECM controlled Maruti 800" without the "" ofcourse.

Try grounding it to the body of the car, scrape some paint off in a small corner and ground it there.

Re: Maruti 800: Technical Issues and Solutions

Need some help regarding the information on fuse box. As my car doesn't have the fuse box lid i am unable to determine which fuse is for what light fittings. I hope someone can help me in this regard.

Also yesterday i installed the car stereo & in the process one of the wires accidentally shorted, the usual +ve & -ve short. All went smooth and the stereo (touchwood) works fine. The problem after that was that the cabin light is not functioning, also the handbrake warning light and high beam parking light too is malfunctioning. I hope its a small electrical issue. Please help me in this regard too.

Please let us know whether your car is type 2 or 1. So that it would be easy for us to post the pic of the fuse box lid in which we can find the proper location fuses.

thats the fuse box in the owner manual of a 2008 model. Anyway I suggest to check all the fuses in the fuse box because some are shared with other functions not mentioned, if you find any shorted just replace it with another of the same amps (color)
