1. Is my car Type 1 or Type 2
Your car is a T1, as shashi and astralbliss mentioned, but the last model.
2. The temperature meter does not cross "C", is that the right temp. while running or the meter is faulty.. The moment it crosses "C" the fan starts & it comes back to "C".
The needle can be below C when you start the car, But in 2 minutes or so, it should come to C, and after that the needle will move a bit and stay there, When the temp rises a bit, the fan kicks in and returns the needle to original position.(Where it was after 2 mins of starting the car)
It happens in every T1. Mine also never goes till half mark, it is way far than half mark. When i had overheating issue, the temp needle went above half mark and once reached the Overheat zone too, so that explains that my meter is working fine.
What i suggest you is that first check that if the meter is completely dead or has some movement, if it has movements like i mentioned above, its fine, else get it checked at MASS.
3. I like the previous version of front Grill (lines type with Logo) & not the honey comb, can it be fitted without any modification.
Yes, the previous design front grille (the one in my car) is a direct fix. Just 2 screws and you can lift it up. If you can compromise on originality, you can fix the old grill. But finding one is really difficult.

Thanks for the explanation. For Type2 and 3, its different. Have a look at the needle at its normal operating temperature.

Hello Sumithsinha,
Today, I got the cross member replaced. Boy, I got there just in time. Lot of things that needed a fix down there. My mechanic told me that a few more days or weeks at max and I would have been in serious trouble.
Cross member had rusted badly and the mounts on that end had almost given away. Also needed welding. It seems, the engine had slanted to one side.
Got chassis welded, mounts replaced and she is doing just fine.
A few more extra bits, I got a new Lumax tail lamp on the right and it all totalled upto 2.3k INR.

Car is fine, I'm happy. All I care about :D

Belated Happy Birthday[clap], White Swan. [:)]

White Swan turned 24 on 8th February, 2016. 2015 proved to be a fruitful year for her, as she regained her much needed fitness. 2016 will see her getting even healthier.

White Swan sharing her experiences with the Goldie, while the Goldie promises to be with her forever.

Thanks a lot shashi to update the thread on my behalf. Though we both couldn't post anything on it's birthday, we didn't forget it's birthday, and did some TLC to make it's day.
The white swan finally turned 24. I must say that those 10 years during which she was away from me, i really missed this car a lot. And then when she finally came back, i didn't bother to see the condition as i knew that whatever mess it is, i will sort it out, because i had my motivation factor just infront of me.
And we have came a long way from where we had started, still a long long way to go to achieve the desired finish.
Some more things are planned in this year. If everything goes well, a new GB is planned. [;)]
Happy Birthday BR16C 0280.
And yes, golden beauty will be with white swan forever. [:)]

Thanks a lot shrijit.
Nope, i don't have any pics of the car in that battered state. As i was not with my dad when he got it back. I reached after one day. And upon seeing it for the first time after 10 long years, i just threw my luggage inside, took the keys and went for a short spin. That is when i realised how bad the condition was. But then i was very very happy and excited so didn't click pics.
The pics you see on the thread are after 2 hours of rigrous pressure wash at an FNG.
But hats off to the loyalty of the machine, or it also wanted to come back to it's original home, Car was in such a dilapidated state, still it didn't stop or break down anywhere in those 100 Kms.
And when i was driving it, when i reached home, i was surprised to see that the same car has covered 100 Kms (With two ghats in between) in such a state. With low engine oil, gear oil like slush, brake oil like water, and coolant.!! What are you talking about [lol]. It was just water inside the radiator. No spare wheel, only head lights working, stinking interiors, rattles.
When i look back to that state, i realise how wise decision my dad took to bring it back and save it from the hands of butchers at some scrapyard.
In the course of this restoring journey, met some wise mechanics too, met some over smart people also. One of whom was about to open my radiator cap just as i entered his garage and the engine was damm hot. [lol]
But yes, those wise people and friends are really my saviours who did exactly what was supposed to be done and exactly how it should be done. Here I would like to thank my service advisors- Dheeraj and Yadav from my MASS.
Last but not the least, someone whom i will be grateful to for the rest of my life, someone who helped me with parts, mechanics, Introducing to dheeraj and Yadav, being with me in the workshop for the whole day. Shashi, Hats off to you man. Thanks a lot.
Way to go, But i am sure, i will achieve the "Showroom finish" soon.

As well as you and your friends from saving the car from being scrapped.[thumbsup]and actually I was asking do you have any photos when your father bought the 800 in 1992?

Hi sumit/shrijit
i too had posted my m800 97 model.
your car looks like a swan indeed.

I have been looking for old type Front gril ( lines one with M800 logo), presently i have a honey comb model gril , but i want to keep one just to keep changing ...

Kindly share if you know any contacts where i get this in Bangalore/Mysore. My efforts in sourcing this did not work out including scrap yard.

Ananth
